The very rare and illusive long haired basset hounds roam portions of Florida! hehehe
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Rare Roaming Long Hair Lovers! LOL! OMG! Look at our new residents of basset hound town, Harley and Daisy Mae!
These rare creatures roam the back deck of their Mommy, Kathi in Tallahassee, FL. One may even be able to capture of glimpse of them as they sun themselves on the couches of said home. hehehe
I heard there was to be a docu-drama based upon this rare and unique couple!
OK – I am a bit crazy, but that is what went through my mind when I saw them. I think Grandma almost had a heart attack thinking of the hair that might be associated with them!
Here is another picture of the day that Momma Kathi picked up Daisy Mae from Suncoast Basset Hound Rescue! ( on the right) She thinks that Harley and Daisy Mae may be related, but there is no proof of that.
I just think they are the cutest couple ever! Harley is 13 and Daisy Mae is 12 and 1/2.
More rare long hair later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
P.S. Maybe Dyson is secretly releasing them into the wild!
Beautiful hounds! So, what’s going on with getting the hounds to Kathi? When will they meet to get them to their new home?
They are beautiful.
I have a longhair too, she’s beautiful
I am a breeder in NC and I had one of my females (PRISSY) had her first litter….she breed in a chain link fence with electric wire that rims the top and bottom of that fence and she had 4 out of 12 come out long haired one which is really rare was not only long haired he was born w/o the dwarf gene. They are rare because that is the only 4 we have ever had….just recieved a pics from one of the owners and this short baby looks just like his father but he has long hair….wow…so I am telling all of you that they do not have to be mixed to have long hair….I know its weird but it happen.
Amanda – I am curious about why you mentioned the chain link fence with electric wire that rims the top and bottom. What is the purpose of that? It sounds like Prissy was a prisoner.
I don’t understand.
Thanks for the comment….

I would guess her point in mentioning the fencing was to point out that she knew who had sired the pups and there was no chance another dog had gotten to her bitch for the long hair to have been cause by another breed of dog being mixed with the basset hound.
It just sounded weird. Chain link fence with electric wire? I feel sorry for Prissy. Poor girl. Sounds like a horrible environment.

We have a long haired basset (Daisy) and her sister/typical basset litter mate (Lilah). Both are wonderful, pure breed dogs. I just Love Daisy’s long hair and think it should be an optional add-on like power windows on a car haha:)
I also have a long hair basset. she is 6 yrs old. we had traced her family history. we have been told she is a petite basset griffon vindeen. not sure on that. we have taken her to many different groomers. each one has never seen one. we get her a shave cut every 6 to 7 wks. we have to. lol. her hair grows fast. she is r baby. she is beyond spoiled. lol. when a pup, we all didnt know she would be long hair. she was only 1 out of litter that has long hair.
I sure wish you would send me a picture of her. I would love to see it! I will add it to the blog. I love long haired bassets.
