Waddle Bound – a poem by Ken Johnson

April 19th, 2007 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound Lovers: I am sharing this wonderful poem by Ken Johnson. He is a Suncoast volunteer and Dad to Buster and Lemon Drop! It just makes me think how sweet our community is. From the East to the South, from the West to the North and all combinations in between, we love our hounds. Ken wrote the poem with FL in mind, but it applies to any waddle! Please enjoy, and watch for Chaps’ announcement this weekend about our friend, Ken. Slurp!

Waddle Bound

I’m Waddle Bound, I’m a Basset Hound

Gonna strut my stuff and show em sure enough

We’ll have some fun in the warm Florida sun

As the parade forms up I’m feeling like a pup

Look at all the treats and Basset sweets

We’ll all march around the waddle ground

With waggon tails and howls galore

We all end up at the rescue store

Look at the T-shirts, look at the cap

Let’s all buy some Basset crap

By the end of the day I’m looking for a place to lay

Then Dad packs us up, puts the van in gear,

And I woof out the window “see yall next year”.

List of Restaurants for Ocean City and surrounding close areas

April 19th, 2007 - 3:03 pm KY Time

http://www.oceancityvacation.com/membership/restaurants.htm

Dear Fellow Hound Lovers: Here is a list of restaurants in and around Ocean City. Make sure you call first. Ocean City does not offically start their season until Memorial Day, so some of these restaurants are closed.

There is a new restaurant that opened 2 weeks ago called Skully’s. They are not on the list but I heard it was really good and affordable.

Howllo Fellow Hound Lovers: Take a gander at sunrise at Ocean City! I just got goose bumps! Just bassetabulous.

The pridicted weather for Friday, Saturday and Sunday could not be nicer. Check this link every day, but I think all waddlers are in the clear. Saturday, 0% of rain and high of 67%. Perfect for basset hounds.

Lucy, The Margate Elephant – very near Ocean City

April 18th, 2007 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound Lovers: I am now your board waddle tourist guide! This is another attraction not to be missed. It is a national historic landmark just 13 minutes from Ocean City. (directions below)
She is called the eighth wonder of the world, (Chaps would beg to differ), and her name is Lucy. She is the world’s largest wooden sculpture standing 65 feet tall. She is very majestic and one of those “must see it to believe it” destinations.

My Mom and made the journey and it was well worth the photo op. Unfortunately, I could not find the pictures. I’m still looking. Anyway, charge up those cameras, brush the hounds and send me your photos!

DIRECTIONS FROM OCEAN CITY: Take Wesley Avenue Northbound to the new Ocean Drive Bridge. Follow the highway into Longport. At the foot of the last bridge, the road will split. Stay to the right of the split and go to the 2nd stop sign (2 short blocks to Atlantic Avenue). Turn left onto Atlantic Avenue. Go about one mile. Lucy will be on your right. Approximate travel time from Ocean City, 13 minutes according to mapquest.

Ocean City is Dry, (oh my)!

April 18th, 2007 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound Lovers! Ocean City is DRY! Which means no alchohol! Those of you who like to have a cocktail while watching the tails wag, do not fear! Either BYOB, (perfectly legal), or there is a liquor store right before you cross the bridge into Ocean City. My Mom and I stopped for our Chardonnay and local flavor! The store is huge and has lots of chips, ice, and whatever you need. Here is their web address and directions.

Ah, a glass of wine, the smell of hounds and the ocean! What could be better???

When all of the hounds round the corner to the boardwalk, with the ocean breeze blowing their long ears, well it still makes me cry with joy just thinking about it! Ocean City is just so super cute. I cannot wait to go back. If you are going, check back because I am going to try and dig up my pictures. Here is Tristate’s link. Great job guys, aka memory makers!

April 14th, 2007 - 6:06 pm KY Time

This YouTube video shows a slow motion capture of a basset and a lab running. I could not take my eyes off the basset. Is it just me, or is the basset air born? hehehehehehe!
