Howllo Fellow Hound and Bootstrap Bill Lovers: This is little “Booty”.

He is Lisa Cherry’s new son.

I feel Gilly knew my pain of losing him and he sent Wednesday and I a puppy that looks just like him. It was unexpected and happened quickly. I flew out to San Francisco Sunday and brought home Pam Chandler’s Bossanova Bootstrap Bill [Booty]. We got in last night and he was an absolute dream on the flights home. He slept. He is helping us heal and Wednesday has had a hard time and has been very needy for her mom but, she is doing better. Booty is such a precious baby. He is 10 weeks old and having him here has put lots of smiles on our faces.”

A note from Sharon:

Three years ago, she had a Grade 2 cancer in the mouth. She was given about a year to live. She has been spunky and as full of herself as always until last Tuesday. I noticed she was a little lethargic, on Wednesday, she seemed to be having difficulty getting around. Took her to the vet on Thursday and put her on pred. She was completely down by Friday morning and lost control of all bodily functions. She would not eat, but drank some. Richard, left her side to go and visit his Aunt and then returned to Roses. We knew the time had come and she was letting us know. She could not wag her tail, but she responded to our touch. Richard slept with her on Sunday night and we took her to the bridge on Monday Morning. We kissed her goodbye and let her go.

We know she ran across the bridge to Mama Daisy, Augie,
Cayenne and Cinnamon. We have laughed and said, it was a good thing that Augie went before her. We just know that she would have guarded the gate to heaven, as she did the doggie door and would not have let him in. Love Sharon

Thank you for sharing with us Sharon: Rose’s was Bassethoundtown.com’s Chairhound on aging, and she aged beautifully.

I must tell all who read this that she is the reason I have Emma and Chaps.

It was love at first site for me when I saw her at the Nationals in St. Louis several years ago.

2734

I still had Chloe and Lily at the time. I never forgot her and I never will. It was sweet Roses that lead me to Emma and Chaps.

2728

Lily passed one night and I did not sleep. I called Roses’ Mom in the morning. I needed Roses. Her Mom, Sharon, was right there for me. We talked for a long time about Roses because Sharon knew I was grieving Lily. Sharon kept my mind off of Lily and we laughed about Roses. About the time she was in a huge agility event and Sharon’s husband was sitting ring side. Roses saw him and ran fast as she could and jumped into his lap. Of course, Richard was banned from ring side from that point forward. It is these stories that Sharon told me to comfort me that day that I remember now. Now that Roses has left us. My Roses. The Roses that brought Chaps and Emma to me. I tucked the thought of Roses in my mind the day I saw her. I still had Chloe and Lily. I was mad at myself for doing it. But when the most awful thing in the world happened, I had Roses. She was there for me that day. Sharon answered the phone. My life had a glimmer of hope. Sharon is my sister now. We are bonded by hounds. We are bonded by love. To know Roses was a true honor. Love, Cat, Chloe and Lily.

Lily’s Basset Bucks are Mounting!

July 22nd, 2007 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound Lovers: I am pretty impressed with the bucks that Lily has been getting. I have them tucked away very safe for the rescues that have signed up. This is bassethoundtown.com’s first fundraiser. Well, of course we have done many fundraisers for other basset hound rescues, but this is our official first fund raiser. We are really excited about it. Will you send us a dollar? I really just wanted to make it fun and a no brainer. Just one dollar. You can find that in the back seat of your car! I did! LOL! You can go to the categories section to the right and click on Lily’s Basset Bucks to get the details. Think about it. Just one buck, or 5.00 if you don’t buy that Star(bucks) one day! hehehehe! OK, I need my coffee like the next person. Just a thought! Love ya, More Later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Here is a message from Dawn of the West. July 21, 2007 1:00:46 PM EDT

For those who may not have known of Bongo –

1180
Bob and Dodson were owned by Bongo, a truly remarkable and loving hound who trained his foodslaves and all he met. Bongo left us for the bridge some time ago, and his paw prints have been very hard to fill.

Bongos house was opened to foster a Mom named Cinch and her two babies; Viv and Lois.
Arriving from conditions that are indescribable – having lived their short lives in a tire on dirt surrounded by rattlesnakes, these puppies were brought into Bongos house, loved and pampered and knew what a home truly is.

Friday night, a mere 3 days after arrival, Lois took ill.
Her dad Dodson rushed her to the emergency center and it was found that Lois had a congenital defect which was causing her lung to empty into her chest cavity. A painful condition and terminal, Dodson was in attendance as Lois left us for the bridge.

We want to thank Bongo for sending us these babies – a wee messenger to report to him as to his Dad’s well being and the testimonial to Bongo continues to grow – his pawprints are huge, and have been stepped in by many hounds, the latest of which is our angel Lois who is reunited at the buffet with the much missed Bongo and all those who have left us before.

Thank you for assisting these babies Bongo…….
and kiss Lois for us – we shall meet again one day. Dawn

Dear Dawn thank you for such a wonderful message and we are all truly blessed to know and care for each other and the hounds that come, go, and forever live in our hearts and souls. God Speed little Lois. Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Scully’s beautiful Portrait and gotcha story!

July 21st, 2007 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Scully Lovers: I just had to show you this wonderful portrait of the beautiful, hungry Scully.

2708

This portrait was done by David Dowbyhuz.

Scully has a blog. Here was her posting on 7-19-07
9 YEARS AGO TODAY……
Current mood: hungry

Nine years ago today, on July 19, 1998, my mom & dad welcomed me into their life. Lucky them!

Mom has been a basset fanatic pretty much forever….it had been her dream to love one of her own since she was a little girl. Getting me was a kind of spontaneous decision though. Mom found an ad for a litter of bassets in the newspaper (don’t worry, she now knows better) and figured she’d call the breeder just to get a little more info. Well, I was the only one left so she called my daddy (they weren’t married yet) and told him that he had to go with her to have a look at a basset puppy…now! So, off they went..an hour and a half drive to “look at” a basset pup.

Well, it turned out that I was the breeder’s pick of the litter and they had wanted to keep me, which is why I was still there at 14 weeks old. They had recently found out that they were expecting their 5th child (!!!), so under the circumstances they thought it would be best to let me go to another home.

After my soon-to-be slaves formally met my doggy mom and her human family, I was allowed to stumble my way into the room to meet my potential new mom & dad! What can I say, they absolutely fell in love with me and the rest is history.

So, HAPPY GOTCHA DAY TO ME ME ME!!!!!!! (I know, technically “Gotcha’s” are used for rescued hounds, but the humans like to celebrate the day they got me cuz I am the best thing to ever happen to them!!!)
Here is a picture of me as a pup!
