Meet Clarence – Ozark Mountain’s new charge

July 19th, 2007 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow hound and soon to be Clarence lovers: The dumping stories never stop. I thought that this guy needed an extra boost of attention. He is staying at the Vet office where he was dumped this morning. He is only about 2 years old and weighs 20 pounds. He is heart worm positive and has some pretty bad sores. 100_5027_3.jpg

100_5028a.jpg
Dr. Grogan is my new hero who is donating all of Clarence’s medical treatment! Dr. Pat Grogan runs The Bartlesville Animal Hospital, 1055 NE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006, and Carol is the office manager. What a special doctor. We here at bassethoundtown.com bow down to you!

Ozark Mountain Basset Hound Rescue will take over when Clarence is released in a few days and get this, Sherry Faulkner – The President of OMBR has already found Clarence a foster home. This is all great news for Clarence. Even with vet care provided by the good doctor, Clarence will have his fair share of expenses. OMBR has a PayPal link on their home page if you would like to give Clarence an extra paw up. Any amount is very appreciated. Here is the link:

I will be keeping up with dear Clarence. He looks like a fine hound that will be saved. Some lucky family is out there waiting for him. Hang on, he’s on the mend!

Roxie’s cyber shower update

July 19th, 2007 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and puppy breath lovers: I received this e-mail this morning from Marie who is owned by Rhett, Scarlet and Megan Mariah. She published it to the Basset-L. For those of you not on the Basset-L, here is an update about Roxie’s pups. If I lived closer I would personally go take pictures, but……..KY is too far, however, I’m about ready to head for CVG (airport).

DAWNI PICTURES PLEASE, IT’S NOT LIKE YOU HAVE ALOT TO DO!!!! 🙂 (hehehehehehehehehe)

Posting by Marie 7-19-07 12:36am

Since Roxie arrived at Daphneyland, the proud Aunties have been keeping
watch, some of us from across the country. Over this past weekend, the pups eyes
opened and I get reports about how they are inquisitive, energetic and very
eager eaters. Now the real fun begins!

If you would like to join in our cyber puppy shower, there are several items
on the list that can be mailed without paying the Post Office a fortune –
powdered Esbilac, powdered Ensure or gift cards for WalMart, Target or Costco.
Packages can be mailed to

Basset Rescue Network, Inc.,
6221 Shannon Valley
Road, Acton, CA 93510.

Please mail your package so it can arrive at
Daphneyland by August 3rd if possible. Donations to help defray vet bills for the
pups shots, etc. can be made at www.firstgiving.com/firecrackerpups or can be
mailed to Basset Rescue Network at the same address as above or by using PayPal
at _barninc@aol.com_ (mailto:barninc@aol.com) .

Even though this is a cyber shower, the Aunties have decided that there must
be a decorated playpen to hold the packages and there will be pictures of
Roxie and the pups posted after the shower.

Photos of the pups are being updated regularly and posted at
www.bassethoundtown.com. This is an amazing website with great pictures and videos from
Basset lovers and is truly becoming “Basset Central”.

Thank you Maria, that is such a sweet compliment…Cat

It’s truly a miracle that Roxie got to Daphneyland in time to safely deliver
her babies. Please help make Roxie’s shower a success – she did her part by
deliverying the beautiful pups now it’s our turn to help.

Marie
Beau, Rhett, Scarlet & Megan Mariah

Very well put Marie! This will be so much fun. I cannot wait to see the pups.

Bob and Dodson answer an urgent plea!

July 18th, 2007 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Larry lovers:

On 7-16-07 Dawni of BaRNI at Daphneyland put out an urgent plea.

Her e-mail stated:

This plea is multi-organizational.

We have an immediate need for a foster home that can commit to taking in a female mom and -2- 6 week old puppies for approx. 4 weeks.

As most know, BaRNI has Roxie and her pups here at Daphneyland
( www.firsgiving.com/firecrackerpups ) and for the safety of all involved, we cannot take another litter here at this time.

Last night, a call came in – a mom whelping at 10:00 p.m. needed to come into rescue immediately.

BHRSC despite a late night phone call from us, networked beautifully and has that litter going into a foster home (THANK YOU!!!)

Now we have another call….
It does not matter what group you might be associated with, we need a universal foster situation for this 3rd litter of puppies…..
Can anyone help???

Call, email, shout from a mountain……..
We’d like to get this litter ASAP before the owner sells the 6 week olds puppies – who are too young to be sold and taken away from mom. Thanks Dawn

UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE

Well, on 7-17-07 Bob and Dodson stepped up and took in Mommy Cinch, and her two little girls Lois and Viv.

This young basset family has just hit the National Basset Lottery jackpot for fostering. This is the best case senerio. Bob and Dodson have two other basset hounds named Lana and Rocco. They also have a blog called:

BONGO AND SUGAR’S HOUSE

I suggest you bookmark it and check for updates. They are also on my blogroll. There is a short video up right now of the new family. I think they should do a reality show and film 24/7. They all are stars to me! Hey, have your people call my people! More Later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

Ralph’s fulll “gottcha” story!

July 17th, 2007 - 7:07 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Ralph Lovers: This just in from Dawn of the West. It is the full story of Ralph’s new forever family. On a personal note to Dawn!

WHAT? NO PICTURES? 🙁

Here is a very cute story from Dawni!

As our Basset family et al were so wonderful and supportive of Ralphie the poor emaciated basset mix pup that came into BaRNI via private plane, I wanted to update everyone on Ralphies progress.

As I think everyone knows, he was emaciated having been abandoned in a field in Sacramento.
Wonderful rescue volunteers (The Alsups) flew up in their plane and brought him back down to Daphneyland for rehab. This was in June.

Over the course of the last month or so, Ralphie had bloodwork and went on antibiotics – tested heartworm free and began the road to weight gain and getting over his shyness. He made huge strides in these areas.
Our special pack the pounds on puppyness blend and shot series had him well started on his road to healing. Monitoring weight, finally Ralphie was ready for his neuter – but alas – only on testicle had dropped. It was nail biting time for all of us last Friday as Ralphie went in for the neuter and the invasive “find the missing testicle”. Thankfully – and a bit red faced we were when our vet called up to let us know neuter was perfect and easy – Ralph had -2- – he just was not very well endowed…..

Ralphie as he put on weight, also was sprouting up and we all enjoyed playing guess the mix on this pup. Guesses ranged from Coonhound basset mix to great Dane basset mix and everything in between.
Ralphie learned how to fetch. He will fetch young saplings trees right out of the ground and bring them to you, he will fetch water bowls, chairs, basically anything not nailed down that weighs in under 50 pounds – Ah the joy of puppyhood. Ralphie is an expert ear chewer to boot. Talk about counter cruising, he put a new height equation on counter cruising. (Despite all of what may sound like devilry – Ralphie is the most gentle puppy one could ever encounter, and the biggest love of a hound known to wranglers.)

Saturday – July 14th was a big day for Ralphie.
A Daphneyland alumni; Travis was staying at Daphneyland while his folks were in Tahoe, and they came back and decided Travis needed a friend. Not wanting a puppy, and not wanting a teething puppy and of course opting for a hound that doesn’t jump on one, they chose Ralphie. A perfect match – Ralphie is ALL PUPPY, Ralphie will be teething for the next year on all furniture and landscaping and no, Ralphie does not jump up at crotch level – when he jumps on you his paws reach your shoulders, rather like getting hugged by a giant drooling bear. The Peppo Family will have many MANY happy times and Ralphie has a new family, and a new brother whom he loves. The irony of all of this is even more interesting.
As it turns out, Ralphies new family has a tie to Daphneyland – a longer tie than anyone.
Ralphies new Uncle actually BUILT the structures at Daphneyland. How weird is that??
We still get his junk mail.

Ralphie will be a regular visitor here, and will be attending the Basset Hound Picnic in October – I can’t WAIT to see what costuming on these 2 will be… Jolly green giant and lil pea, Laurel and Hardy, Sampson and Goliath….. stay tuned!!!

Thank you one and all for donating to Ralphie – for assisting us in being able to save his life, and to the many volunteers who spent long hours with him, loving him and nurturing him – and to the Peppo Family for loving Ralphie and giving him a Name – Ralphie Peppo. Now that’s a great story.

Bellyrubs to all……

A tip of the brush, David Dowbyhuz

July 15th, 2007 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and art lovers:

Over the past month I have been receiving updates on an artist’s portrait of a basset named Phoebe. It has been so interesting, so I thought I would share. Here are the first three e-mail attachments I received.

**********************************************

Here is a portion of the final e-mail from the artist,
David Dowbyhuz
presenting the Phoebe finale:

“This is the final email on the progress of Phoebe’s portrait. She’s all done, but for some finishing glazes, the subtlety of which won’t really translate digitally. Father Pat, above, is also the breeder from whence Phoebe came; http://www.deanerybassethounds.com/. Her registered name is DEANERY’S MERMAID, coming from the oft times stormy coasts, but always beautiful landscape, of Newfoundland up here in Canada. This name is most appropriate, as Father Pat points out, her having been born so close to the North Atlantic!

Without further ado (no time for “ado” today) I present to you Deanery’s Mermaid, the beauteous Phoebe”

the end result!

Great Job David! More Later…Cat, Chaps and Emma
