Ozark Mountain Basset Rescue saves 24 bassets from puppy mill

August 7th, 2007 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and OMBR lovers: Wow, talk about acting fast. The fantastic folks at OMBR receive a call on 7-29-07 from an evil puppy mill stating that 24 hounds needed to be picked up “that day” or else….

In the words of Menzie Campbell of OMBR, “We don’t feel at all burdened by this sudden call to take in 24 dogs. On the contrary, OMBR is HONORED to be able to save these beautiful bassets from a life of constant breeding, and the horrible conditions they were living in. NO dog should ever have to live in a puppy mill.”

Amen to that sister! I am honored to know you and the people you work tirelessly with to help these wonderful creatures called basset hounds. The sweetest hounds around.

How incredibly sad these babies endured unspeakable conditions and had a life destined for misery –
Thank you to Ozark Basset Rescue for having the courage and the total commitment to change the future of these angels. The adults grab your heart immediately and the story of Rosie and her pups…..
Please help Ozark with any monetary donation you can…. This intake will be more than blood, sweat and tears, these babies will require SO MUCH!!

I read the story on the OMBR website yesterday, and it made me totally sick to think of what these poor sweet hounds had to live like in that horrible puppy mill. How can anybody be so disgustingly cold and evil?!!!
THANK YOU to everybody who helped to get these houndies out of there! Thanks to you, they will now have a chance to have the kind of life they deserve.

Ozark Basset Rescue has taken on a huge task and needs our help – I can only imagine what the vet bills will be for this many rescued Bassets. Let’s do whatever it takes to get these Bassets into forever homes so they can forget the horrible conditions they came from.

“- I can only imagine what the vet bills will be for this many rescued Bassets”

*LOL* We got the first round of bills the other day. They are in excess of $2,000 and climbing.

Menzie is right – OMBR is honored to be able to help these dogs. We had no room, and no money, but we knew we had no choice. These dogs are all incredibly beautiful and very sweet underneath their fear and distrust and are going to be wonderful family pets when they are adopted.

That day, and the horror of what I saw will forever be burned into my heart and my mind. Somehow, some way, we HAVE to stop puppy millers. Oklahoma has absolutely no laws on the books to help them and we have to find a way.

I want to thank all of you who have donated to our situation and for reading their story.

Sherry, Please keep us posted. I cannot imagine the horror that all of you went through. I could NEVER do what you do. Thank you so much. I will do everything in my power to keep the light shinning on this situation. Cat, Chaps and Emma

I just read Josie’s story–hit by the car and left unattended, eventually dying…and I am weeping. I have never, EVER, underestimated the cruelty of human beings. Man is the king of beasts—for his brutality exceeds theirs…Thank you, OMBR, for your valiant effort in saving these lovely hounds.

I know Mary. I cannot get that story out of my head. That poor creature. How heartless. The only thing that helps is to know that Josie received some love prior to going to the bridge. Now she is free. Cat, Chaps and Emma
