Ellen? I am watching her right now! UPDATE

Howllo Fellow Hound and PetFinder – Mom and Mutts Lovers:

Let’s see what happens!

Ellen did massive damage to rescue groups. She said that it is all about the “dog”.
I think that see missed the mark on that comment.

She never even mentioned shutting down Petfinder. That was all her fault.

OK, the topic is over and she STILL did not do the right thing.

I am all over the Internet on many rescue boards, about 15, and the comments are 95 percent in favor of the Rescue.

I seem to recall, that when Ellen first started her show she adopted a puppy that did not get along with her cat. She gave that dog away as well. I am going to see if I can confirm that. I am almost positive. If so, Ellen is not talking or crying about that.

UPDATE: Can you believe this?

Keith Fink, a lawyer for Mutts & Moms, tells Page Six’s Marianne Garvey it’s all an act. Behind the scenes, DeGeneres’ publicist was calling the small agency and threatening it, says Fink, who played a vicious voice-mail message for us:

“This is Kelly Bush. We are filing a legal case against you. We are going to be contacting the media. This is not going to be good for your store or your organization. You did not do the right thing. You need to call back. There is no reason for you to take this dog. Please call back before this gets further out of hand.”

“Ellen’s lying,” said Fink. “She is using her power and her access to the media to destroy this agency in the media. This is a woman who has signed many seven-figure contracts. She knows what she signed.”

I wonder why Ellen is doing this?

The paper today said she had tried another dog from the same rescue, it didn’t get along with the cat, so she returned it to the rescue and took home Iggy instead.

According to the paper, neither she nor her partner had even read the contract they signed (which seems unlikely for such famous people, doesn’t it?)

I also side with the rescue. People are bound by the contracts they sign. Ellen did a lot of harm to her credibility with this one.

Wow, I just heard the voice mail that Ellen’s people left for Mutts and Moms. Total bullies. Ellen is threating to sue Mutts and Moms. This is just so sad for canine rescue.

I think it is very sad and that it kind of gives rescue bad press for those people out there who aren’t involved with rescue, or know about us and what we do. I was listening to a radio show yesterday on this topic and the callers had some very misguided views on rescue that are only getting worse because of all of the slanted coverage on this issue – which is actually very simple and should never have gotten so out of hand. Ellen violated her contract with the rescue. Open and shut case. That being said, I would have hoped that the rescue would have considered the family that was interested in the dog. Since I don’t know all of the facts in the situation, I can’t really make a judgement on the rescue’s actions. I am sad for all of the parties involved, especially the rescue as this is causing them to take so much time and effort away from their purpose – which is rescuing dogs.

I think it is terrible that Ellen is using her celebrity status to ruin what part of America has worked on for so long — helping and rescuing dogs!!!! Ellen is the one that violated the contract/agreement, and now this wonderful organization (Mutts & Moms / Petfinder) that helps rescue animals is being criticized. No one is saying that Ellen’s hairdresser is a bad owner; the organization just wants you to follow the rules of her signed contract….just as ANYONE ELSE would be expected to do so and look after the best interest of the dog. SHAME ON ELLEN FOR USING HER TV SHOW TO DAMAGE THIS ORGANIZATION. No sympathy here — I support Mutts and Moms!!!!! AND — shame on the producers and network OF THE Ellen show for allowing this to happen! This was a great loss of integrity on their part.

It is the policy of most rescue groups, including the basset rescue group I volunteer for, that if the dog does not work out in your home for whatever reason, that you must return the dog to the rescue. The dogs under the rescue’s care are the lifelong responsibility of that rescue. Many people who adopt from rescues or are involved with rescues in any way are well aware of this common policy….and it makes sense.
This story is getting a very slanted view in the media. I hope other celebrities that are respected and knowledgeable in rescue come out and help to educate the public on this issue and why it is important to return the dog to the rescue.

I totally agree with you Patti: The media is slanting this issue. I saw on TV last night the little girl that Ellen was talking about, Ruby. She sat next to Ellen and explained that the application from Mutts and Moms was too long to fill out. That tells me that Mutts and Moms sent them an application and they were not even willing to fill it out.

I will follow this and update this blog. Thanks for your comment. Also, thanks to everyone who has commented. I will dip back in and update my thoughts on other comments soon! Slurp, Cat

Dear Theresa: Thank you for your comment. I had not heard that Ellen had tried another dog from Mutts and Moms. This is the same thing I was talking about when she adoped a puppy, years ago, and gave it away because of the cat. That explains why she kept crying and saying that Mutts and Moms had an issue with her. I can see why! My goodness!

Kerri: I think they did send an application to the hairdresser. See my comment to Patti. Also, as an unrealted comment to your comment. Ellen’s publicist, Kelly Bush, referred to Mutts and Mom’s as a, “Store”! This just shows you how much they know. Mercy Me! Cat

Hi Audra! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I was so swamped with work, I missed it. Hopefully, the canine rescue community can correct this media blitz. I am so upset with Ellen. How could she do this? She was clearly in the wrong. Cat
