The Holiday Dumping Season is in full swing :(

Howllo Fellow Hound and Rescue lovers: I just found this posting from a very experience rescue worker and I had to share with my readers. Those of us on the Internet are overwhelmed with bassets being dumped in pounds. The worst part is that a large amount are seniors.

Here is the post I am sharing from Menzie.

It’s that time of year, I’m afraid. The “Holiday Dumping Season” has begun. All the rescues are full, because this is the time of year that people dump their formerly-beloved pets at the shelter, because:

a) They dont’ want to pay to board them while they’re out of town (True, believe it or not);

b) Grandma and your brother’s new fiancee are coming this year, and they’re both allergic to dogs;

c) The dog ate/peed on/knocked over the Christmas tree/Christmas cookies/presents; or

d) They don’t wanna bring him in for the cold winter months, but don’t want him freezing to death in their backyard, either(after all, the neighbors might complain).

Menzie and Noel, in Conway, AR, with Pw. Annabelle (born 5/9/99, blind from glaucoma since 1/2001), Hector (gotcha day 11/2/02), Barney the perpetual puppy (born 7/8/03), and the Bozman (born 8/22/04)

So, please folks, give the gift of life this year and make a donation to your favorite area rescue. If you go to my links page you can find all of the basset hound rescues in the USA and one in Canada. This is a gift that is the ultimate re-gift!

    I had written to a woman in rescue at the start of December and in my ignorance thought that Dec would be a quite month. She gave me the real sccop about December.

    I don’t understand how people can give up at family member any time of the year, let along the holiday season. I guess the answer is they aren’t family members and they are expendable when they become a burden.

    So very, very sad.
