This is the link to the video. Alec – a hero.

“He’s no different than any other officer,” Myers said of Alec, who received a 21 gun salute.

“He was my backup,” Myers said. “He was there to give his last breath to get me home at the end of the night.”

Now that’s a hero!

This is an interview Chaps did with Santa last year!

December 20th, 2007 - 12:12 pm KY Time

I am passing along a special interview granted to Chaps, the Mayor of Basssethoundtown.com with Santa. Chaps and Julian met up with Santa during one of Santa’s mall tours.

CHAPS: Santa, I understand that you and Mrs. Claus have a new dog. Can you tell us about it?

SANTA: Yes, dear boy. Mrs. Claus and I have hundreds of dogs. This newest one looks like you. She is a basset hound. Mrs. Claus found your website and she really likes it. You are a great Mayor!

CHAPS: Thank you, I do my best. What did you name your new hound?

SANTA: We are still coming up with a name. What do you think?

JULIAN: How about Belle?

(Santa summons an elf and tells them to ask Mrs. Claus)

SANTA: I like that name little boy. Have you been good this year?

JULIAN: Yes, yes! You can even ask my Mom and Dad.

SANTA: I don’t have to. I know everything!!! You have been good!

CHAPS: Santa, Emma wants to know if she can help, maybe ride in your sleigh?

SANTA: (shakes his head no) My dear boy, Emma makes Rudolph nervous. She is alway jumping and barking. We have to be silent so we do not wake the children. Maybe next year.

CHAPS: Well, the line to see you is getting long. Can I e-mail you later to keep everyone at bassethoundtown.com up to date?

SANTA: HO, HO, HO, of course! (Santa, pats Chaps on the head, and gives Julian a candy cane)

SANTA: Hold on Chaps and Julian, it’s Mrs. Claus on my cell phone. “Yes Dear?” OK, I will let them know. “Belle it is”, Thanks Julian

Wow! look at Flash!

December 18th, 2007 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Flash lovers! My vet’s office just called me about this boy down in Lebanon, KY at the Marion County Animal Shelter. His name is Flash! He is doing great and they love him. I asked if he had a “hold until” date and they said, “no” ! This guy will find a home. I told them that I would pass the word along and of course they were very grateful! So, here is Mr. Popular, Flash the approximately 3 year old dreamer. Dreaming of a forever home!

December 17th, 2007 - 10:10 am KY Time

I just saw on the drool where this transport was cancelled. I will re-post updates as needed. More Later…Cat, Chaps and Emma

Howllo Fellow Hound and transport lovers: The bassetabulous Tanya Kittrell is helping us once again with her transportation skills. Here is her run sheet for this weekend, 12/22,23/07! Can you imagine how cool it would be for Marty Mays and Marilyn Hodges to get these hounds prior to Christmas?

Current Run Sheet, updated as legs fill

This story is very special and Marty and Marilyn feel that their dearly departed hounds helped assist in them finding these very special boys.

I will be following this run all week and telling more of this story. Oh how these hounds touch our hearts.

Did you read about the old guy today?

December 17th, 2007 - 9:09 am KY Time

Good news, he was picked up by the owner who was waiting at the shelter this morning. The old guy’s son was with him. I deleted the post so I would not confuse anyone who thought he was still in danger! Ah, Thank goodness! Man was he cute! Home for the Holidays!

Did you hear about this? Pregnant Basset in danger – KY Shelter?

December 15th, 2007 - 6:06 pm KY Time

UPDATE WITH PICTURE AND GOOD NEWS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST!

Howllo Fellow Hound and NOT pregnant basset lovers! This was on some of the boards and the drool, here is the post from Susan of Bluegrass Basset Hound Rescue!

I just got a call from a shelter that they have a very pregnant young
female basset. This dog will die if we cannot pull her, and we cannot
pull her with no place to put her. Is there anyone out there–feel free
to cross post this far and wide–willing to take on a Mama and babies?
My kids would love it—but I am at my limit while the Soldier Daddy
is here (not to mention my parents.)

It just occurred to me today that we have our own House of Puddles thing
going on here at Bluegrass, given that we have 15 senior bassets in
our system.

We are drowning, just without the water….

Well, here is the e-mail I just got from Susan aka wonder woman!

Cat:

If you saw my postings about a pregnant basset in Madisonville, KY, be aware that she is no longer there. She is HERE, along with the 10 surviving puppies!! “Delilah” is resting snug and warm with her babies in a swimming pool filled with blankets in my daughters’ bed room. Here she is. She is scheduled to go to foster care tomorrow…..pray the weather holds!

Enjoy and send money to Bluegrass, they are going to need it! Click here! PLEASE! (delete my e-mail and fill in your own!) Slurp

Keep checking back, this is going to be fun! Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. I told Susan she was a wonder woman and her reply was:

“A very tired wonder woman! I had to be in Russellville, KY (45 min east) to give a foster home one of my dogs at 9 AM. Then I had to rush back to get Delilah. I was thinking I just had a fat girl to deal with but the puppies couldn’t wait, I guess. I was hoping they wouldn’t have to be born all alone in a shelter (they DID have a blanket on the floor) but Jesus did OK and He was born in a stable 🙂

So, we’re up to 18 canines, 2 cats and 1 goldfish. Please advise me on the closest nuthouse!

Susan 🙂

She is tired and funny!

The Holiday Dumping Season is in full swing :(

December 15th, 2007 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Rescue lovers: I just found this posting from a very experience rescue worker and I had to share with my readers. Those of us on the Internet are overwhelmed with bassets being dumped in pounds. The worst part is that a large amount are seniors.

Here is the post I am sharing from Menzie.

It’s that time of year, I’m afraid. The “Holiday Dumping Season” has begun. All the rescues are full, because this is the time of year that people dump their formerly-beloved pets at the shelter, because:

a) They dont’ want to pay to board them while they’re out of town (True, believe it or not);

b) Grandma and your brother’s new fiancee are coming this year, and they’re both allergic to dogs;

c) The dog ate/peed on/knocked over the Christmas tree/Christmas cookies/presents; or

d) They don’t wanna bring him in for the cold winter months, but don’t want him freezing to death in their backyard, either(after all, the neighbors might complain).

Menzie and Noel, in Conway, AR, with Pw. Annabelle (born 5/9/99, blind from glaucoma since 1/2001), Hector (gotcha day 11/2/02), Barney the perpetual puppy (born 7/8/03), and the Bozman (born 8/22/04)

Ozark Mountain Basset Rescue

So, please folks, give the gift of life this year and make a donation to your favorite area rescue. If you go to my links page you can find all of the basset hound rescues in the USA and one in Canada. This is a gift that is the ultimate re-gift!

A loving tribue for Hamilton and Stretch from Devon

December 15th, 2007 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and old hound lovers: Poor Devon got word yesterday that her very special boy Hamilton has passed away. He was a resident of BaRNI. Devon states, “I will never forget the day I picked him up from the Agoura Shelter – skin and bones with his voice box removed – 1 day from death.

I named him Hamilton after the pro surfer Laird Hamilton, because the shelter he was at was just over the hill from Malibu.

Heartbroken,
Devon”

I told Devon I would post her tribute slide show of Hamilton and Stretch (of BaRNI also, who just passed a few days ago at 18.5 years of age)

These old guys get to us, don’t they?

Devon just lost her Sr. Hound Elvis on Thanksgiving.

The old guys get to me.

Here is her tribute!
