We are hosting a special guest this weekend!

January 11th, 2008 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and special guest lovers!

This guest is the perfect visitor. I don’t have to clean the house or go to the grocery store. I do however have a fun event planned for him!

This special guest loves to waddle for Sr. Hounds and I will be sending him to his first waddle way out west very soon! Any guesses?

He should be here any time now. Is that the Fed X truck I hear?

Silent Auction for Rudolph!

January 10th, 2008 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Rudolph Lovers!

As many of my readers know, Rudolph has a new Mommy. He was not a good fit for the House of Puddles. He did not like other boy dogs! He did however, like the ladies! Hence, his neuter surgery is pending as it should be.

Poor Rudolph, he also has heart-worm. Marilyn will be paying for his treatment and neuter surgery.

It is so expensive! It will probably reach 1000.00 dollars just for both of these procedures.

Rudolph’s new Mommy is holding a silent auction. This item is something she hold dear to her heart! It is Butterscotch’s coat. Butterscotch was Gail’s beloved hound who is now at the rainbow bridge.

You can bid on it via her e-mail. I know that there is a 40.ºº bid on it so far, so you have to bid higher than that! Here is her e-mail!

DeeUtz68@aol.com

I am having trouble linking to Rudolph’s MySpace and Dogstar pages. I will make sure I get those links for everyone! But for now, here is the cute coat/cape that anyone’s hound would be honored to wear!

Keep checking this blog and the Daily Drool for updates!

Howllo Fellow Hound and Marina del Rey lovers:

Devon is hosting a meet-up this Sunday and it is not to be missed. If I lived within a day’s drive I would go.

Details: From Devon’s Meet-up page
This meetup is scheduled to give us a chance to meet other basset hound owners and lovers! We will be meeting at the beautiful Marina Del Rey Penninsula! There is a little nature trail where the hounds love to watch the birds, lizards and meet other dogs!

If you like, you can bring a picnic and sit and watch the yachts go by with your new basset buddies!

More info and detailed directions will be provided later. Hope to see you there!

Arooooooooooooooooo!

We will be meeting in front of Mariner’s Village Apts. at 4600 Via Marina, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 – Once you get this address keep going straight and it dead ends into the water. Park at the metered parking – I’m sure you won’t miss us! lol

To see the necklace, more info on the House of Puddles and to order click here!

OK folks, there you have it. You do not need to live in CA to be a member of Devon’s Meet-up group. You should join and get up to the minute info on events she his hosting. Some of these are on line events that are just as fun!

This is just one reason why KY foster homes are so needed!

January 8th, 2008 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and bonded pair lovers:

A nice lady near Hopkinsville KY, (Murry area) found a bonded breeding pair of bassets that were dumped in the county. (tri-color) She took them in and wound up finding Bluegrass Basset Hound Rescue. They are being vetted right now, but they need help finding a foster home.

Can anyone open their home to these sweet sad souls? If you are interested in becoming a foster Mom or Dad read the next post and see how to do it. It really is very easy.

I thought it would be a good fit for a retired person who loves dogs but can’t afford to have them. The rescue pays for the hound, and the foster family gets to visit with potential families!

Please pass this blog to anyone you know that might fit the bill. If you cannot foster, maybe you can donate. Vetting a hound is not cheap (I will ask Susan to comment on that) and in this case we have two! Click here to donate

Humans used, abused and then tossed out these two. Let’s show them we are not all bad. Bless their little hearts!

I will update this later, hopefully with pictures.

Bluegrass Basset Hound Rescue has a PLEA!

January 6th, 2008 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and KY hound lovers.

Bluegrass Basset Rescue needs foster homes in KY! Do you think you can help? I asked Susan of Bluegrass to write a few words on what it takes to foster and her reply was to me within the hour.

Here it is:

To be a foster parent all one really needs to have is extra room in their hearts and home for a homeless basset 🙂 The foster home application is the adoption application because if you were to fall in love and not be able to bear to part with a basset you are fostering, that application would need to be in place before you could adopt. Foster homes get first dibs on adopting a hound in their care.

:applause

All we ask you to provide is the love and the food. We pay for medical expenses and monthly maintenance (heartworm and flea Rx.) There are some vets we prefer to work with in certain areas because of the rescue discount they generously extend to us, and we do ask that, barring an emergency, you contact us before taking a dog to a vet for something acute but not necessarily urgent. A limping basset, for instance, when you do not know the cause, is not an emergency. A basset pacing, drooling and swelled up–bloating–IS an emergency.

We do our best to send only healthy dogs, but sometimes we get dogs in who have been exposed to something that takes days to manifest itself. In the case of kennel cough, it can take 5 days for the symptoms to appear–even if they’ve been vaccinated–, and then we have to wait about 2 weeks past the date of the last antibiotic pill to re-vaccinate. If you were to foster a dog who has completed treatment, we’d schedule you to take the dog to the vet in a few weeks to get that bordatella vaccine. This might be prepaid at a certain vet or we’d reimburse you if you have a preferred vet with reasonable charges.

In the Louisville area, we generally receive dogs from Louisville Metro Animal Services and the Kentucky Humane Society. ALL dogs from these shelters are spayed/neutered and UTD on shots/vaccines before being picked up.

To inquire about fostering, just email Susan at froggie0310@bellsouth.net or call 270-890-0491. You can delete my signature off the bottom of the e-mail. I don’t know why that comes up.

Most bassets are in foster care for 3-6 weeks. If you prefer an older dog who can stay longer, we have those, too 🙂

Thank you so much Susan for this wonderful information on becoming a KY foster parent. Let’s keep up the blogging. I hear you are going to have some new pictures soon of additional hounds needing homes, including some seniors! I cannot wait to see them and I will put them on this blog ASAP.
