The Latest Saga……

Howllo Fellow Hound and not loving Saga lovers: My goodness gracious. If it’s not one saga, it’s another. About a month ago I decided to take Chaps off of his Canidae Lamb and Rice dog food. I had heard that the new formula was changed and not for the better. I noticed that Chaps’s had runny eyes and something else kind of soft, if you know what I mean. So, I switched to Merrick about a month ago. Now I think he is allergic to the chicken formula I picked. His hair is falling out in small clumps and he has a lot of dander. I do not recall him ever blowing a fall coat this aggressively, if at all. He also has developed an ear infection.

Remember, Emma is severely allergic to chicken. I had no idea if Chaps would be or not because he had always been on a lamb based food. It was pretty stupid of me to try him on chicken, what was I thinking? Emma and Chaps are both of the same BoBac line and it holds to reason that he might be allergic to chicken as well.

I sure hope it is just his food. Changing food is easy. Of course, I am worried. My boy’s coat is looking a bit worse for the wear.

Now for a closer look – notice all of the tuffs sticking out? It is like this on both sides.

So I ran out today and picked him up a bag of Natural Balance Lamb and Rice Allergy Formula. I am going to take the rest of the Merrick to the pound this week. I have a few things for them.

Well, he just ate his new meal and seemed to like it better. Keep your paws crossed. The Mayor doesn’t have many sick days left at the office.

More about every detail of the Mayor later…Cat, Chaps and Emma

Poor baby……I hope the new food works better. Is he itchy? Does he scratch alot? Colby is on Science Diet and I think it is chicken based, but he seems to develop his allergies more seasonal. Please keep us posted.

The Mayor can always work from home. Hopefully, the food change will do the trick. We will keep our paws crossed for the big guy.

Cat, do you have an update on little Molly that you wrote about earlier this week? For some reason, she has been on my mind since you told us about her.

I am so upset on the food that these companies sell us. I am also so upset that these breeders do not tell us about allergies. I am so mad. I know that my breeder has trouble with her hounds having allergies. OMG. Growllllllllllllll. I am mad

I hope everyone is on the mend. Fortunately Slinky does NOT have allergies. I use Bill Jac, and I mix it with a less expensive brand to make it last longer. Slinky has had no ill effects from this.

Stupid food companies. You never know what you are buying these days, despite the ingredients on the bag. I am so sorry to hear Chaps is not feeling well. I know first hand how miserable an upset stomach is. I hope the new allergy lamb food helps restore his coat and help with his stomach issues. I will keep my paws crossed for you Chaps!! I love you-Josh

We had to switch our two boys off Canidae. We moved them to Before Grain. Its of a similar quality to Merrick and betther than natural balance.

    Plus the boys love it

Hey thanks for that information about Before Grain. I will look into that.
