In honor of our Lily….

November 13th, 2008 - 6:06 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Lily Loves: Today I am reading the Lily book to a bunch of kids. Chaps, the wonder hound, is going with me of course. My goodness our boy can really make an event! It is so cute because when we come into the building most of the other teachers will be peeking out of their doors and smiling at the big boy. Usually, the office staff winds up coming into the reading. This one is pretty big in size. There will be about 60 kids. OMG! Lisa, my graphic designer and friend is helping me. You know I am taking my camera!

So, in honor of Lily I give you these cute pictures of the day! This first one is the Lily Pad going belly up.

It’s a bit blurry because it’s an action shot! LOL

Here is our Lily back in my office helping me write the Lily book! (about 9 years ago)
What a sweet and kind girl. I feel her presence everyday.

Chaps will do you proud today sweetheart, I will make sure of it! Love Mommy

More Lily Pad pictures for years to come.

Love, Cat, Chaps (the star) and Emma staying at home with Grandma!

Two dog night

November 12th, 2008 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and two dog night lovers: Wow – it was cold last night! Have you heard that saying before, it was a two dog night?

It refers to being cold. Often when ranchers or cowboys were out on the range they would have to sleep with their dogs to keep warm. A one dog night was a night when he had to share body heat with one dog, two dog night was two dogs and a three dog night was an extremely cold night where he would have to share body heat with three dogs. “how cold was it on your trip?” “It was a three dog night”.

Well, I am lucky that Chaps and Emma throw off a lot of heat, so I am covered in the three dog night temperatures that are sure to come over the next several months. Did I say I am covered?

This is a shot of Emma not wanting to leave her nest this morning!

Come on Emma – Breakfast!

Two dog night, yeah right! I think they think it’s a one person night! LOL

More covers later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Sometimes a blind girl needs a leg up!

November 11th, 2008 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and leg up lovers: Sometimes a blind girl needs a thick towel with an absorbent lining after a potty break!

Even though she has the best nose in the world, every girl might step in a puddle from time to time! Pay no attention to the puddle maker in the background!

Like I said, sometimes a blind girl needs a thick towel with an absorbent lining!

Don’t worry little girl. Mommy has your back!

More making sure life has leg up lovers later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Have nots find a home!

November 9th, 2008 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Have Not Lovers! My dear friend and I were reminiscing about her rescue hound, (Abby)! She has Chaps son – Colby Chaps. She rescued Abby from the side of the road a few years back.

I thought that this picture really touched the world of rescue. Audra and I found our homeless hounds on the side of the road. She found Abby and I found Lily wandering and lost.

Stray dogs need immediate attention.

If you can’t foster them, just get them off the road, if you can. Take them to a no kill shelter in your area.
It will probably be hard now a days. Most no kill shelters are full. Do what you can, if you can.

This picture makes me happy for this stray hound! Audra kept her, just like I kept Lily!

Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. Colby Chaps on the left – how a hound should look – Abby on the Right – needing some meat on her bones! LOL

MVVP of the day!

November 9th, 2008 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow hound and MVVP Hounds of the day! I know that many folks watch football on Sundays. I am not one of them, but I can spot a good play when I see one!

In the fashion of the messy illustrator that football commentators use, I have tried to capture the MVVP of the day! This award goes to Chaps!
MVVP means, MOST VALUABLE VACUUME PLAYER OF THE DAY!

I think you will agree after you see what he did!
(I spelled vacuum wrong. Who knew Vacuum had two u(s)?)

Not a big deal. Anyway, he totally ran down the field and blocked Emma from heading towards the big Monster that Mommy was holding. The dreaded vacuum cleaner!

You have to click the pic to see all of the details! LOL

This took all of 5 seconds, but I captured it in my mind. Now it is captured on paper!
I really am that skinny! LOL!

More MVH (most valuable hound) moments later. Chaps is just incredible with Emma. I am in awe every day of how they work together with her blindness.

Love, Cat, Chaps (blocking big boy) and Emma

HUSH PUPPY! (of the eating kind;)

November 8th, 2008 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Hush Puppy Lovers! OMG – I am not ashamed to admit I could become easily addicted to Hush Puppies. I love them. So decedent in their flavor. So easy to pop in the mouth. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Hush Puppies, so greasy!

I was scrounging around in the fridge looking for breakfast and what do I find? A lone Hush Puppy from last night’s dinner – cough – addiction. Yummy, I just found breakfast!!!

I peeked around the corner and the kids were sacked in taking their morning nap. Everyone all deep in sleep.

As I crept down the hall to my office I sat down and within seconds, if not a nano second, guess who shows up?

Any one recognize Mr. Feeling Better?

I eyed my lone Hush Puppy with sadness – knowing my treat was in jeopardy…….

Hum, I had to call Emma, I could not let her smell this tremendous treat on his breath. Heck the Hush Puppy was named in honor of hounds. Here are a few of the stories that the Hush Puppy harkins back to.

An African cook in Atlanta is said to have given the name hushpuppy to this food. When frying a batch of catfish and croquettes, a nearby puppy began to howl. To keep the puppy quiet, she gave it a plateful of the croquettes and said, “hush, puppy.” Since the name was cut, it stuck. This same story is also attributed to a Creole cook.

Hunters and trappers could be on the trail for days at a time. At suppertime the hunting dogs would get hungry, so the hunters would mix a batter out of cornmeal or flour and cook it in grease on the campfire. Then they would throw the fried dough to the pups, telling them to be quiet, shut up, or “hush.”

Confederate soldiers would sit beside a campfire preparing their meals. If they detected Yankee soldiers approaching, they would toss their yapping dogs some of the fried cornmeal cakes with the command “Hush, puppies!”

Enough history this thing got serious when I called in Emma –

This is Chaps’s very serious look!

Did you ever wonder if a blind basset hound could still give, “The Look”? Well, they can……….

One more to prove my point…….

My breakfast went from an entire hush puppy to a 1/3 of a hush puppy in no time flat…….

And then…………..The Hush Puppy was

Gone…………….

I think we are all addicted now!

I just wanted to make sure you knew Emma got her 1/3.

So much for my decedent moment of pleasure with my whole hush puppy! I am still hungry and the kids are back in bed.

More sharing later……Cat and the Sleeping Hush Puppy Eaters……….Slurp!

Chaps is feeling better, and so is Mommy!

November 7th, 2008 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Hounds feeling better lovers:

I was so worried about our boy today and maybe I was too quick to rush to my fears. I know he did not feel good today because he slept more than usual. However, he ate his dinner and jumped on my Mom when she came down to check on him today! That was a great sign. Then I went into the kitchen to make dinner and saw this. OMG! I tip toed back to the office and got my camera!

They were still in position when I got back! Best friends.
Emma is always there for Chaps! She has a great shoulder to lean on!

I love this picture.

More love later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

Chaps woke up with a tummy ache this morning:(

November 7th, 2008 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Chaps’s tummy lovers: Our boy woke up with a tummy ache this morning. I have been somewhat worried about him since I am trying to find a better food.

Anyway, he was pacing around and threw up some gastric juices. He actually ate a little bit of his breakfast and then started pacing again. Of course, I was worried sick because we basset lovers know that bassets can bloat quickly. I actually used my own reference material on my web site to see if he fit any of the symptoms. You think you know them, but when you are freaked out you forget.

This is the link I went to on my website:

BLOAT (GASTRIC TORSION)

It really put my mind at ease that he was not fitting any of the symptoms. There is a chart at the bottom of the BLOAT page, right before the comments. It is called:

http://www.thenewfoundlandclub.co.uk/files/bloat_symptom_guide.pdf

This is what I referred to. You really should print it out and keep it handy.

Chaps is resting right now and thank God he is not pacing any more. Here he is. He just crawled into his bed in the office.

He licked his paw for a few minutes and now he is sleeping. Shhhhhhhhhhhhh!

More tummy updates later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

I’ll be missing you…….

Our friend Lisa came over today!

November 6th, 2008 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Friend Lovers:

Our friend Lisa was over today! She is a total Titan in the graphic design world and we love her so much. Lisa has been our friend for 15 years! Anyway, she brought Chaps a 15.00 present today for his birthday. We donated it to the Canine Health Foundation for Blind Bassets and her gift turned into 30.00 dollars via their matching program!

What a smart friend! Here is the link that she donated to:

EMMA’S GLAUCOMA FUNDRAISER

Our Lisa is a treasure! We love her!

Our Emma was in the next shot but it was totally blurry!

We love you Lisa……

More loving Lisa later…….Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. Chaps was trying to eat the money! What a silly boy!
