Winter Weather Advisory – What’s in your shopping cart? Honey Buns? check.

December 15th, 2008 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Winter Weather Advisory Lovers or Haters! Today the weather reporters in my neck of the woods are whipping the population into a winter weather advisory food feeding frenzy. Most of us know the routine. We mentally check our lists to wonder what we cannot do without during a snow or ice storm storm. For many it is junk food! The amount of junk food we buy will rise proportionately as the number of inches of snow are predicted. I believe it is some kind of weather – grocery theorem.

It cracks me up when I go to the market with the frightened masses buying things we normally never buy. For some reason we must grab that bag of chips that is never on our list unless a snow storm is coming. Why, when you are snowed in, do you allow yourself extra treats? Puzzling indeed.

Anyway, I figured out that I needed potatoes for the kids. They get them as treats. God forbid I run out of them. I am pretty set up food wise I just needed a few things, (who am I kidding, I grabbed the bag of chips)!

I am heading to the check out lane and pull in behind very large twin ladies. They are in there early 50s. Their red hair is cut into a buzz. They are dress identically. I had to look into their cart. What was on their winter advisory food list? They had ten 12 packs of diet coke and 24 boxes of honey buns, 6 buns to a box. Hey, just another day in Kentucky. You have not lived until you have had a grilled honey bun with a side of real butter at the local diner on Sunday morning.

I love looking into other folk’s carts. It’s kind of a window to the soul, if food is the way to a heart.

More honey buns later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma who I love to call honey buns!

Man, I am really craving honey buns. Now I am going to be snowed in with out them. Drat…….

That cracks me up. We have the same thing here in Wisconsin. You’ll see people buying gallons of milk and loaves of bread. Now, I’ve lived here my whole life, (many, Many years) and I never remember being snowed in more than a day.

At least the Honey Buns will keep if one is without power. Stay safe, kids. It is suppose to be about -4 here tonight!!!! Burr. It will be a multihound night indeed.

it’s the same here in new jersey…but the funny part is they can be forecasting like 1/2″ of snow which means what…drifts of 1-2 inches….i think i’ve been stuck in my place maybe 3 times in the past 15 years!

it’s like a frenzy at the grocery stores…people shop like they will be stuck on top of a mountain for the next 30 years…forget honey buns…here it’s gallons of milk, dozens of eggs, etc.,…just amazing!

stay safe and stay warm (yeah 65 here too…i’m sure it will be nasty here soon enough!)

During the blizzard of 1979 in Chicago, a neighbor of ours (I lived with my parents at that time), knocked on our door and said he was going to try and go to the store (he was pulling a long sled), and he wondered if we needed anything. My Dad said, “sure a couple of gallons of milk”. When our neighbor came back he was pulling a sled full of 12 packs of beer and two gallons of milk.

I thought it was pretty funny.

Lois – I was cracking up at your comment.

I have a theory. I woke up this morning thinking about it. Does anyone think I am going crazy? I was wondering if the grocery stores pay off the weather forecasters to drum up business for their stores? Kind of like lobbyist on capitol hill. In our area the grocery stores seem like the biggest advertisers on the local news channels.

I either have to much time on my hands, which I don’t think is the case, or I am on to something???

One more thing. In the Summer months, the grocery stores always host BBQs with the weather forecasters in different neighborhoods.

    OMG!

    What do you think?

Last and most importantly, there was not one single snow flake this morning. However, batten down the hatches, it is sure to come tonight.

    Courtesy of Krogers……………..OMG!!!!

Cat – I think you’ve just discovered a hidden scandal. We need to get Washington DC to hold special meetings to look into this. LOL
