Oh what a night!

December 17th, 2008 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Sleeping Lovers! Last night was a wild night! It was freezing cold and I had both hounds under the covers. Well, during the night I had an awful dream that I was in a mass of humanity, pushing a shopping cart looking for holiday gifts. I was in a store as big as 10 football fields and I need to get to the back wall because that is where the legos were. So I am am pushing my way though the masses, carts are pushing into my back and I am trying to make my way when I wake up and realize it is Emma pushing me as hard as she can with her head to my back, pushing with all of her might to wake me up.

Guess what? She was cold and I was hogging the blankets. I started laughing and thanked her for saving me from that nightmare. I covered her up and she promptly fell asleep.

Me, not so much. I could not get that vision of the shopping carts out of my mind. It was like there were a million Stepford people pushing carts. It was the most bizarre dream.

Emma was snoring within seconds. Chaps never did wake up. I went over my list and I checked it more than twice!

More dreams later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Riverside Military Academy Cadet Readies for Historic Inauguration & Conference

Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference Inspires Tomorrow’s Leaders

Riverside 2nd Lieutenant Ronald Hilley has been selected, as one of several outstanding high school students from across the United States to take part in a truly American celebration the Inauguration of the 44th President of the United States. During the five-day program, the Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference (PYIC) will provide scholars with a deeper understanding of the history behind the electoral process and the rich traditions surrounding the presidential inauguration.
“The Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference will provide students with an opportunity to take part in historic events that coincide with the Inauguration of the President of the United States,” said Marguerite Regan, Dean of Academic Affairs for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council (CYLC), the organization that sponsors PYIC. “Something that is really wonderful about so many young people gathering in Washington, D.C. for this event is that it will provide them a chance to become more familiar with and attuned to the president who will govern our country over the next four years. We certainly hope this will inspire the next generation of U.S. leaders.”
Inaugural Scholars will have the opportunity to interact with a major presidential candidate, White House officials, congressional staff members, political experts and other VIPs, such as former Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), and former Vice President Al Gore. After witnessing the inauguration, scholars will experience the grandeur of the inaugural parade, as the president, vice president and their families make their way down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol Building to the White House. To further honor and celebrate Inauguration Day, scholars will attend a Black Tie Gala Inaugural Ball.
In addition to participating in inaugural events and festivities, scholars will have the opportunity to explore the numerous historic sites and monuments in our nation’s capital, as well as participate in roundtable discussions, debates and other activities that will help to expand their knowledge of democratic principles and the presidential election process.
CYLC is a nonpartisan, independent, educational organization. Since 1985, the Council has inspired more than 200,000 young people to achieve their full leadership potential. Members of the U.S. Congress have joined our commitment by serving on the CYLC Honorary Congressional Board of Advisors. In addition, more than 50 embassies participate in the Council’s Honorary Board of Embassies. For additional information, visit www.cylc.org/pyic.

2nd Lieutenant Hilley is from Atlanta and is the son of Dr. Cynthia Rudert. He has been accepted to The Citadel and VMI but hopes to attend the Naval Academy upon graduation.

Not one snow flake!

December 16th, 2008 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Forecast Haters!!! Can you believe it? I can. Not one single snow flake over night!!! However, the forecasting panic is still in effect. It is just north and “MARCHING” towards us. Batten down the hatches and hover in the corner.

Hey, wait a second……..Did it just start to snow?

Chaps viewing the first snow flake of the season (11:16am) –
note to self…clean slobbers off of window!

Someone grab that bag of chips, hurry!

More updates later after I view the weather channel and get appropriately freaked out…..

Winter Weather Advisory – What’s in your shopping cart? Honey Buns? check.

December 15th, 2008 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Winter Weather Advisory Lovers or Haters! Today the weather reporters in my neck of the woods are whipping the population into a winter weather advisory food feeding frenzy. Most of us know the routine. We mentally check our lists to wonder what we cannot do without during a snow or ice storm storm. For many it is junk food! The amount of junk food we buy will rise proportionately as the number of inches of snow are predicted. I believe it is some kind of weather – grocery theorem.

It cracks me up when I go to the market with the frightened masses buying things we normally never buy. For some reason we must grab that bag of chips that is never on our list unless a snow storm is coming. Why, when you are snowed in, do you allow yourself extra treats? Puzzling indeed.

Anyway, I figured out that I needed potatoes for the kids. They get them as treats. God forbid I run out of them. I am pretty set up food wise I just needed a few things, (who am I kidding, I grabbed the bag of chips)!

I am heading to the check out lane and pull in behind very large twin ladies. They are in there early 50s. Their red hair is cut into a buzz. They are dress identically. I had to look into their cart. What was on their winter advisory food list? They had ten 12 packs of diet coke and 24 boxes of honey buns, 6 buns to a box. Hey, just another day in Kentucky. You have not lived until you have had a grilled honey bun with a side of real butter at the local diner on Sunday morning.

I love looking into other folk’s carts. It’s kind of a window to the soul, if food is the way to a heart.

More honey buns later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma who I love to call honey buns!

Man, I am really craving honey buns. Now I am going to be snowed in with out them. Drat…….

Emma loves her routine……

December 15th, 2008 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and blind hounds loving routine lovers! Whew! I think everyone loves a routine for the most part. It is safe and secure. This feeling is especially important for our blind hounds. Don’t get me wrong. Mixing it up is fun as well but I can tell Emma loves her routine.

Every morning and evening she knows exactly when she is going to eat. She is like a canine clock. She talks the entire time I am fixing her food and when I click the spoon on the side of the metal bowl she runs to the dining room, spins like a blind ballerina three times, and winds up in this exact position – every time!

She is amazing. I wonder how many times I have said that about our girl??? She has such a joy for the little things in life, but then again, I guess eating is not such a little thing! LOL

More amazing Emma stories later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
