Remember I said that Lisa was coming over today?

January 14th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Lisa lovers! Lisa and I have worked together for over 15 years. Wow, that is really pawsome! So – you know the kids love her like a true friend. She is family. We are working on my second book. Talk about “herd of turtles”!

It is a love fest when she comes over. I had to show you this picture of Emma jumping on Lisa! For some reason, the kids try to sit up when she is here??? Emma did not do that but I got this picture.

img_9082

Emma goes nuts when Lisa is here. It is just so much fun. Then, Chaps pushed her out of the way and did this pose. It was so funny. You are going to crack up. I know I posted a similar shot, but this is him trying to one up Emma! Just look at that look on his face. We were rolling laughing.

It looks like he is saying, “I can do better than her!”

Poor Emma she has no clue!

More minutiae later………..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Meetup.com – You should join and this rambling post will tell you why!

January 14th, 2009 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and meet up lovers:

Have you ever heard of meetup.com? I learned about it years ago when Devon started a meet up group in the greater Los Angeles area. She still as her group. So, I thought I would start a meet up group for Kentucky bassets to meet and greet.

I never did it because I had too much on my plate at the time and it also cost to start the group, not bad, but enough to where you would want to devote time to it.

Anyway, I get e-mails alerting me to meet ups in my area. This morning I got one from the Business Librarian at the Kenton County Public Library. Here is what it said! This is every Tuesday.

The computer lab will be open for those seeking employment, seeking grants, or working on their small business or nonprofit. Come work and get help from fellow seekers and the business librarian.
Hours: 10AM-Noon

OMG! This is basically like taking a Masters class at a university. I want to start a 501(c)3 and apply for grants. This is mayja!

I am really excited. This woman sounds so cool.

So, I think this is why you should sign up for Meet ups in your area. You never know what will come across and strike your fancy.

Maybe I can also get Chaps and Emma in the kids read to dogs program. I will check that out as well. (Talk about fancy – Mr. Fancy Pants would fit right in)!

Scoot over world, here we come!

More dreams coming true later………Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S.

Who will give us treats while Mommy is changing the world, one basset at a time?

Sup?

I have a family of cardinals living in my backyard

January 13th, 2009 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and cardinal lovers. Yesterday I notice a small dark bird that landed on my back porch and thought to myself that it looked like a baby cardinal. I thought nah, it couldn’t be. Then her sibling landed next to her. A bright red baby boy cardinal! KOOOOL! I was totally jazzed until I saw that they were trying to eat dirt. Ahhhh, poor babies.

Then guess who flies up? Mommy. She starts pecking around in the flower box and I am just about to cry when none other than Daddy lands. A giant beautiful big red boy. Now they are all pecking around like a bunch of dirt dogs.

So, I enlist my Dad to go get bird seed pronto! He flies out the door like a hungry bird and is back in no time. I haven’t seen the family since. I am now going to worry.

I think the big Daddy was the same guy who I photographed on my birthday this year.

CLICK HERE TO SEE HIS PICTURE AND BLOG POSTING

I think birds like my back yard because of the dogs. We have a fair amount of cats that roam at large and well, you know.

I have had the same bird families year after year. I noticed yesterday that when big daddy flew up he looked down to see if the hounds were on the porch. It happens in an instant.

Well the flower box troth is filled with goodies. I think you can see the rye bread I crumpled up for them and there is plenty of bird seed.

img_9072

I think they live in the big bush to the right. Looks pretty warm and comfy to me.

img_9075

I will keep you all posted.

Dinner’s ready – come and get it!

More pretty birds later…….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Oh those babies were so cute.

Carolina Basset get’s her wings!

January 10th, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and getting your wing lovers! I just found this story on the internet and I had to share.

She was on death row last week, and the prospects of a call from the governor were slim.

Her only crime was homelessness, and getting in the way of a speeding car.

Nothing in her sad eyes elicited sympathy. It was all, “You ain’t never caught a rabbit, you ain’t no friend of mine.”

When someone finally offered her a way out, she was all ears.

On Friday, Twinkle-Toes, a 3-year-old basset hound, flew into Charleston on a private plane for some surgery and a chance to start anew.

All this is thanks to the Carolina Basset Hound Rescue, a nonprofit group that saves hound dogs from “kill shelters” and finds them new homes.

Susan Baughman, president of the rescue center, said she got a call about Twinkle-Toes, who was found in Hertford County, N.C.

“They were going to gas her, but no one wanted to,” Baughman said. “They couldn’t put her down. So they called us.”

Last year, the Basset Hound Rescue adopted out 137 dogs. Since they started more than a dozen years ago, they’ve helped more than 1,000 hounds find homes.

Baughman, who’s been president of the organization for five years, said she’s been hooked on hounds since she took one on as a foster parent years ago.

“They are very comical dogs, personable and loyal to their person,” Baughman said.

Usually, Carolina Basset Hound Rescue relies on its more than 200 volunteers to connect dogs to foster homes and, eventually, new “people.”

Twinkle-Toes got the royal treatment. Baughman got Ted Holstein, a Bluffton resident and a volunteer, to fly up to North Carolina to fetch Twinkle-Toes.

She took to the flight well, falling asleep before that whole seat-belt speech was finished.

“She definitely earned her wings today,” Holstein said.

bassett_hound

Twinkle is scheduled for surgery on her ACL knee injury and a broken pelvis. The Basset Hound Rescue folks said Chad Reynolds, a Summerville vet, gives them discounts or they couldn’t afford to do this all of their money comes from year-round fundraising.

For now, this old hound dog is going to stay on James Island with Pauline Grimball and Sue Ramsey, who have a soft spot for low-to-the-ground dogs.

“You’re going to be fixed up now,” Ramsey told Twinkles after the flight.

hound-1

And no matter what anyone says about her, she was perfectly quiet and polite, not “cryin’ all the time.”

END OF ARTICLE……..

Every one say Ahhhhhhhhhh! I love basset hound people. The salt of the earth. (Tears)

More salty tears later…….Love, Cat, chaps and Emma
