Howllo Fellow Hound and long holiday lovers??? It just seemed to me that the holidays lasted about 3 years or more. I don’t know why. Well it is back to work and our regular day to day routine. Did you make a resolution? I did not until I saw these pictures.

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer Update Lovers!

Here is your Homer update then I will get to why it is so late.

FROM HOMER’S MOM

Homer slept on the couch all night like a very good boy. He is mixing in with his family very well. Joni is not a person who can post computer pictures. I will punish her later for that! Anyway, she has had nothing but good reports about our boy.

Joni said that she got up at 3:00am and checked on Homer. The dogs had all started off in her bedroom in dog beds. However, Homer moved to the Ethan Allen Couch sometime during the night. What a smart boy. Joni said that he was stretched the entire length of the couch. I can just see him now, (if I only had pictures) LOL.

Now for me……………(me, me, me!)

Today has been a day of rest! Let me tell you why. I was so jazzed up last night with the extravaganza of Homer that I could not sleep, yet again. Whew…….getting our Homeboy to his new home was such a joyous occasion. Better than ever!

I finally went to bed about 2:00am, still not completely tired. I had both hounds tucked in with me as I drifted off about 2:30. Then, out of some mean spirited rampage it came!

The dreaded thunder storm! Can you believe it? We had a thunder storm in KY in January???????? In my life I cannot remember a thunder storm in January?
WT flip?

Don’t get me wrong, I love thunder storms. However, Chaps does not. We were up for the next 3 hours. Yes, dear readers almost until sun up or should I say rain up. I am still dragging. I had planned on answering e-mails and working. Instead, I was dragging. I did take a few pictures however. Chaps and Emma had their breakfast and then settled into a long deserved nap. This is them in my office as I tried to do some work. MY GOODNESS THEY ARE JUST SO DANG CUTE!

img_9006

Chaps’s coat is getting much better since I changed his food. I have Sandy to thank for that. It took forever.

Here are Chaps and Emma just before a marathon nap session.

img_9018

Notice the door in my office is open! It is 1-4-09 and I have the door open. It is near to 60 degrees today!!!!!!!!!! That is my blogging station in the picture. That chair is torture!

I don’t care, it seems like nap time to me! Ahhhhhhhhh……The sound of rain and the smell of hounds – life can’t get much better!

Just talked to Jim – 8:42pm KY time

January 3rd, 2009 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow hound and wondering about Jim lovers! I just talked to him and he was doing great. He still estimates his ETA at home about about 2:00am. He has a coffee and is doing well.

He also said that it was his pleasure to deliver Homer to Joni B! I just wanted to give my dear readers an update on our transport angel.

(((((((((JIM))))))))))))))

We love you

Homer is Home! FYI – no pictures yet!

January 3rd, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer in his forever home lovers! Homer just arrived to his new home with Joni B in NY and the introduction was bassetabulous!!!

First I talked to Jim who called me as he was heading South to KY. He should be home by 2:00am. Jim said that Homer walked in and introduced himself to Joni’s 2 male Pekinese like a true gentlehound. There was no growling or jealousy at all. Homer even went over on his back so her boys could smell him!!! Then her pekes took him outside to show him their fenced in back yard and Homer did a Jackpot! LOL…. Jim said that Joni has a beautiful home and yard and Homer is a lucky guy!

Joni made Jim a brown bag dinner of a post roast sandwich with all the fixings. I think she was making a pound cake as well. Jim said that Homer had a real sparkle in his eye when he met his new Mom.

As we were hanging up Jim told me he was viewing the most incredible sunset. Wow, phone calls like this are so heart warming. I was just beaming.

After we hung up I called Joni and she was laughing and having the best time. A friend was over helping her with the introductions and every thing was fun, fun, fun!

Joni said that Homer was so beautiful and she could not take her eyes off of him. She was so excited.

She had made all three boys dinner with some sliced roast beef on top. Homer ate his roast beef and then went and ate the boys roast beef as well! She said that he took his fatty paw and tipped their bowls over and just ate the roast beef! Those pekes better get quicker than a basset hound. (Not a chance)! There will be no picky eating at this home from now on! LOL! Joni made sure the pekes got some roast beef.

She said they were having so much fun. One of her pekes was hanging back, because he has back problems and was probably a bit cautious, but the other one was ready and raring to go! By the time we hung up they were all three sniffing and inspecting each other’s areas! Every one’s tails were wagging! LOL

I could hear her friend in the background laughing.

Then the 3 brothers heading out to the back yard and Homer was leading the way! Doesn’t that just bring tears to your eyes? I can just see him now, strutting his stuff, in his new home, with his new brothers, and most importantly, a new Mommy.

Wow – what an adventure. This would make a cute book! Hummmmmm????

More Homer later…….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. Joni – PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES!

Road Trip, Road Trip, Road Trip!

January 3rd, 2009 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Road Trip Lovers! Our Homer is on the road and everything went without a hitch. Here is Jim, the man who is driving Homer!

img_8953

Jim is a saint, pure and simple. I just cannot believe that I was fortunate to make acquaintances with this wonderful man. He does not ask for one cent of money for himself. He only asks that his rental car is paid for and that his expenses are covered. He actually got this car for 38.00 dollars for the day. He is going to make the round trip to NY and back in 18 hours. He is amazing. This is him meeting Homer. You have to click on the picture to see Homer’s eyes meeting Jim’s. Dogs are all that’s right in the world for Jim.

img_8954

Look at Homer’s tail go.

Jim and his wife are in Olde English Sheep Dog rescue.

This is Jim doing one final potty break before the big send off.

img_8957

We had a jack pot! That’s what my Mom calls it when both duties are completed! LOL

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Look at our Homer! He was so excited to get going that he tried to jump in the front seat!

img_8962

Jim had a big blankee for Homer in the back seat!

img_8967

How about that pretty orange harness? Guess what? That was my Lily’s first harness after I rescued her. Joni is going to send it back to me because I keep it with all of her stuff that I look at every day.

Jim get’s Homer a chew toy!

img_8971

Oh that tastes soooooooooooooo good and it will keep me busy as well!

img_8972

Hey, is that the Lily book? Maybe Homer can read it to Jim as he drives! LOL

He is really in a hurry, Jim is on a tight schedule and wants to be home tonight to be with his sheep dog kids!

img_8973

Bye, bye Homer and Jim – Bless both of your souls. Have a safe trip. I will talk to you tomorrow and get your expenses.

img_8975

look close – you can see Jim waving good bye and Homer in the back. This just warms my soul. I was crying at this point. Just balling.

There they go. Heading north. What a journey it has been over the last 11 days. A Holiday journey I will never forget. I bet Homer won’t either. This is what the season is all about. We all came together, in our town, and helped a down on his luck old KY hound find a forever home. Magic, just magic!

img_8983

You now have the green light to a great life Homer. We are all thrilled to help you on your way. Thank you for making my holiday season the most memorable ever!

Many more Homer stories later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I could not sleep last night either Joni!

January 3rd, 2009 - 6:06 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and not being able to sleep lovers: Well, today is the big day. We have all worked so hard on this day and now it is finally here. Our Homer was a victim of despair and many of us rose to the occasion to help him. Times are tough at best and I know how hard money is to come by. Homer has received many words of encourgement as well and they have lifted both of our spirits. Now comes the fun part. We get to hear all about Homer and his retirement. I will be blogging more about that as he starts his new life. Homer makes my 7th basset hound that I have rescued and re-homed in 2 years. Each one very special in their own way. It’s always harder when you see the face of an elder with zero options. Then someone steps ups and says, “I’ll take him”. Thank you Joni B! Your new old man will be on his way in about an hour!

Here is a picture I took of him yesterday with my Mom. He took a long walk! He loves walking.

img_8950

Let’s get this show on the road!

More updates today……….Love, Cat, Chaps, Emma and Homer going to his forever home today! 1-3-09

An oldie but a goodie!

January 2nd, 2009 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and oldie but goddie lovers: Please enjoy this 3 min video staring Emma as Laura in Dr. Zhivago. I’m not really sure who Chaps is, but he really fits some part of that movie. I am sure of it!

Go ahead, grab another doughnut and a second cup and enjoy!

More entertainment later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. They have not had those coats on since then (2007). They are not big fans of the coat. Our theory is, if you have to wear a coat it is too dang cold to walk.

2009 kicks off with a pressing question???

January 1st, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Pressing Question Lovers:

This morning I received an e-mail from Justin, one of our residents. He asked me a pressing question. “How long are Chaps’s ears?”

Hummmmmmmm???? I really do not know how to answer because I do not know how to measure. I think this is something we all need to get straight and be on the same page about. Don’t you?

Do you measure from the inside out?

img_8367

If so, do you stretch the ear? Where do you put the ruler, on the skull where the ear attaches?

Or do you measure from the outside down?

img_8263

This is not the best picture but does one put the ruler at the top where the ear attaches and then measure downward while a helper is holding the ear out?

Or do you measure while the hound is in the resting position, taking a tape measure and following from where the ear connects to the head then to the tip of the ear?

img_8007

I am confused and I think we need a policy manual on this. In the past many a hound has claimed to have the longest ears. However, we do not know the measuring technique!!!!!

One thing is for sure, we do not want to measure when the hound is in the alert position!

img_7946

That would not do at all!

Justin, my dear friend and resident, I will have to get back to you on this one. I need to call in the experts on this question and then I will officially make it bassethoundtown law! We can call it:

BASSET HOUND EAR MEASURING AND THE CORRECT AND FUNDAMENTAL WAYS OF MEASURING SAID HOUND’S EARS FOLLOWING THE AGREED AND ALLOWED UPON METHOD AS REVIEWED, TESTED AND APPROVED BY THE THE BHT BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND SUB COMMITTEES CORRESPONDING WITH THE APPROVAL OF SAID GOVERNMENTAL BODIES WE SHALL HEAR BY MAKE THIS LAW!

Sounds good to me? Anyone got any ideas?

More committee meetings later! Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Howllo fellow hound and New Year lovers: I just got an e-mail from Chaps’s son and I had to share. This is him at his party last night!

img_1350

Then we have Abby who totally relates to Homer and his story! She was a Christmas Miracle herself several years ago.

img_1349

She was stray, just like Lily! Just look at her now. I just love this picture. Look at that face! Oh I just want to kiss it!

Thanks for sending the pictures Audra! Will you kiss Abby for me and don’t forget the big guy, my great grand son. LOL
