Today we enter week 5 of Emma’s rehab from back surgery….

April 22nd, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and rehab lovers! Today Emma enters week 5 of rehab from her back surgery. She is doing so good. I know a big problem I am going to have in the future will be Chaps. About every other day he burns bright for about 2 minutes and wants to jump on our Emmers. It is so odd. It always happens after dinner. He will hide behind a corner (which he doesn’t have to because she can’t see a thing) and then he will do his play stance and then he will charge her snorting like a bull. With his pre-game antics I should be able to catch him but I was not quick enough last night and he jumped on her back. OMG I thought I was going to have a heart attack. He has not done this in 5 weeks. She is fine.

High FIVE Emma! FIVE for your age and for the number of weeks rehabbing! We are too clever!

What a pair. Well, Grandma and I are off to do more re-hab work. Emma tries to go flat basset on us. She usually wins. It takes us for every to get it done.

More flat bassets later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Thank doG Emma is fine. Poor Chaps. He doesn’t understand and just wants to play. It’s not a good way to find it out but I’m sure that was a good sign that Emma’s back is healing and strong! 3 more weeks right?! Won’t be long!

After dinner seems to be the time the gang at Camp Toast wants to get ruff and jump on each other something like ponies, must be something with the food they get LOLLOL makes them feel spicy the same way Chaps feels, they run and jump at each other every night. if you start now trying to redirect Chaps with a toy having him chase it and do this every night giving him a reason to change his mind even a small treat, just taking time to help change his habit of the jumping on Emma Game he will change but it will take time. I don’t like to see any basset get jumped on but once Emma’s back is all healed she will be fine and strong, if once in a while Chaps loses his head and jumps, when Melba Toast had a bad back i went crazy not letting her do anything, i was told she was a time bomb, i stoped after a couple of months making Melba so sad not letting her do anything, her back is not what took her to the bridge and she had another five years after i was told she was a time bomb and would go down in the rear and never come back. we all go through being fearful for our babies and they are much stronger than we can ever now. we love you Cat and the kids and the grands.

I am so proud of Emma, but I think the Mayor does the predance antics because Emma can hear and smell him.

I can’t imagine the Mayor hurting Our Emma at all, but I think he senses she wants to play.

Cat, when you have time, do you know of any B&Bs or any lodging facilities around you that welcome dogs?

Emmers, you are one amazing Houndette. No challenge will ever get Emma down. Not with that Rudert spunk!

Hey Maureen – I do not know of any B/Bs in my area. I will ask some of my friends and look around. Let me know what you find out and I can check it out. It would be cool if you could stay somewhere on the river. Cat

Sandy – “like ponies” I woke up this morning laughing about that. When Chaps jumped on her she stood strong. She did not fall over or lose her balance. She is normally the one who tries to entice the Mayor. Yes, I agree – we need a new routine after dinner. I always thought they played way to rough. When I had Chloe and Lily they would play but not with each other so much. It was more the typical basset 500. Just running and chasing not wresting. My Mom used to call it storming. It was so cute.

Cindy – Yes, 3 more weeks. I absolutely hate having rugs down in my home. Man oh man they hold the odor. I sure hope I can take them up eventually. Emma was really full of herself this this morning. She looks great!
