Howllo fellow basset hound Lovers and giving up driving haters……….

I am so proud of my Dad for realizing that he has to give up driving. So many elderly folks are not that gracious. I have to say THANK YOU to my 82 year old Dad for making this decision on his own.

Can you imagine giving up driving?

Well, he has and the hounds are grateful that he his home more often and giving out more treats!

I am thrilled Grandpa did this on his own. It is a huge step. I think the kids helped him.

Cat – that is the most precious picture! With the kids looking (even Emma) so adoringly at Grandpa. Brought tears to my eyes.

My mom made the decision to stop driving on her own as well. It was a relief to me and Hannah and I loved being her driver. When Hannah was born, my mom never rode in front with me again, instead always choosing to sit in back by Hannah’s carseat. Those were good days.

Dear Kerry – You are so wonderful to comment on this topic. I was so hoping that GP would give up driving. He is a very old 82 year old. I am going to try and adjust to this for him. He LOVED driving.

I am going to try and get him to help with Emma’s exercises when he would have been going out in the car. He is a real dictator and will likely push Emma along. My goal is to get him to do exercises with her.

They both really need it! Oh, wait…….I think I do as well!

    LOL

Seeing your dad sitting there with the hounds made me think of my dad. The only reason he gave up driving was because he had a stroke. He was an old curmudgeon, but he did love basset hounds. He could get any basset hound to “talk” to him in ways I’ve never been able to do. I’m very proud of your dad making this decision and I’m sure you and the “kids” will help him with this transition.

I really love this picture of grandpa with Chaps and Emma, that is a sweet moment you’ve captured.

Sometimes the moment is right and that pic was so right. I cannot get over how Emma can still “see”. She will look right at you. What a sweet heart!

My mother did this as well. It was a relief to all of us, but I think some times she misses the independence it gave her.

Maureen, My Dad is so sad. He hates it. But he is taking the high road and knows it is the best thing for others who are on the road.
