I forgot to show our dear readers Chaps boo boo bandage!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and forgetting to show the Mayor’s Boo Boo bandage. He is still resting. Here is his bandage, in case you want to see it!
I took a very soft, clean rag, one I use to clean their ears with and wrapped it around his tail with lose surgical tape. He is laying in my office. He does not want Emma near him, so he got up when she tried to get in the bed.
Here is a closer shot.
Well, that’s all for now. I am sure you could not live without these pictures! LOL
More later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and his tail, and Emmers bow bemmers, bed hog!
Our poor baby, I’m so sorry he feels bad. My Mom said Clancy had this same thing too. It was real big on his tail, and then the next thing she knew it busted open and blood was everywhere. It had a hole in the middle where it busted open and she would just put neosporin in the hole everyday and keep it clean. It took a long time, but it finally healed up. I hope Chaps gets to feeling better, please give him an extra big kiss from me tonight and let him know we are all thinking of him and sending tons of drool his way. I love our big man.
Audra – It is just so scary! I am very glad that you offered this advise to me. I really want this incident to heal up with no surgery. I will take your Mom’s advise and make sure to keep a close eye on it. I have heard of these cysts exploding!
Yikes!
Thanks for the drool and love!
Cat, Chaps and Emma
Hi Cat,
Hope the Mayor feels better! How do you tell if it’s a bump or a cyst or just a bump? Dudley has these bumps on his back and they heel like they are getting bigger.
All the best.
Rob
Hey Rob – Point them out to your vet. Some bassets are very lumpy and bumpy. They are prone to sebaceous cysts. My vet had basset hounds so he can speak from experience. He has removed over 20 from his late basset. That is why he did not want to remove this one from Chaps. There was not enough skin to close the incision.
Just keep a check on the lumps and bumps and if they get bigger make a note of it and tell the doctor. My Lily had them and many basset hounds have them. This one was scary for me because it is so huge. I have never had a hound that needed to have one removed.
Chaps has about 10 more all over his body but they are pea sized. My vet said that many breeds have them but bassets have an oily coat that makes them right up at the top of the list.
Don’t worry about Dudley. Just keep an eye on the lumps and bumps. I think what Chaps went through was a bit odd. His turned huge over night. He was chewing on it. It probably just started hurting or itching. I bet it was hurting.
Hope this helps!
Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma!
AWWW Chaps!
I hope you are feeling a bit better now that you have some pain medication.
We are thinking about you!
Sadie and Bowser are sending you some drool.
Get well soon!
Emily, Sadie Anne, and Bowser Flash Puddles
Thanks Emil, Sadie Ann, Bowser Flash Puddles! Chappers needs all of the well wishes he can get. That stupid cyst is just, well, stupid. We need to get rid of it. Chaps needs to be holding his tail high and wagging again soon! Yes!
Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

good thing emma can’t see this…why she would just be beside herself at the sight of her poor chaps….
okay…at least it was clean.
glad everyone is home safe, happily medicated & resting.
Hope Chaps is on the mend. Aggie had one on her tail about 18 months ago. It healed okay and she hasn’t had probs since. It was just after I washed her one day that it burst the next. It’s like their coat is a strong part of the immune system.
Give him a hug from me and the Björkwood woofs.
Slinky, thinks the Mayor needs and extra soft velvety cushion (his favorite color, of course) for his tail to lay on and recover.
I am glad that Slinky never paid any attention to the cyst I recently had removed from her back paw. That cyst sounded so nasty the way you described it.
