It is so muggy outside….

August 12th, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and hating that it is too muggy lovers….

I know that I have shown similar pictures of our Mayor before. However, this one is of him rebelling this morning.

img_2736

It was muggy, muggy, muggy and the Mayor was mad. He usually has his usual morning “constitution” at this time. Kind of like clock work. However, this morning when he stuck his head out of the door. I myself could feel a rush of hot air come in. So what does our Mayor do?

img_2739

Let all of the AC outside. Maybe he thinks he is cooling down his potty area????

I guess he is!

Oh, Chappers………

More too hot to potty later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Who done it??? A basset hound town mystery! Who Chewed the Shoe?

August 11th, 2009 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and shoe mystery lovers! This is just the oddest thing ever. I am trying to unravel a real life head scratcher! THE MYSTERY OF, WHO CHEWED THE SHOE!?!

OK, here are the facts and nothing but the facts:

1.) I was gone most of the day yesterday. I “play bridge” with 3 friends. I left at 10:00ish wearing these shoes, minus the teeth marks………

img_2752

Grandma was in charge of the kids so they were very happy.

2.) I arrived back home at approximately 4:00ish. The kids had been fed and were very happy. A severe storm was approaching Northern KY and Chaps was getting ready to freak out.

3.) I changed clothes and left the shoes in question laying in my bedroom, on the floor.

4.) The storm lasted for most of the night and Chaps and I logged about 3 miles of walking in the house. It seems to be the only thing that calms him. We were both exhausted.

5.) During storms Chaps likes to go into my bedroom and try to climb on top of things. He also likes to nibble on various items like clothes, pillows, or toys. I cannot recall if I had the door to the bedroom shut. It would have been very odd not to have done that because I don’t like him climbing on things.

6.) The shoes in question were walking around my friends house and she has cats.

7.) Chaps, to my knowledge has never chewed a shoe.

8.) Emma has chewed almost everyone of mine but not for years.

9.) I never saw Emma in my room, but she is pretty sneaky.

10.) I did see Chaps go in my room this morning.

11.) I was in and out of my room several times today, and never saw the chewed shoe until about an hour ago?

12.) When I picked up the shoe, Chaps was looking at me. I said his name in a really long low voice and said, “Did you chew Mommy’s shoe?” Immediately his tail went between his legs and he sulked away. May not prove anything more than him not liking the way I said his name. We all know how delicate he is.

A closer look at the evidence……

img_2755

They are not talkin………

img_2746

So, who do you think is the guilty party and chewed the shoe? I am leaning toward Emma because past behavior is a great predictor of future behavior. REMEMBER THIS?

More wondering later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Sisters are so sweet…….

August 10th, 2009 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Sweet Sister Lovers! Can you believe that my Chaps has such a sweet sister? I think I have shown you pictures of her before but I don’t think I have showed you this one!

diamonds-and-rubbies

Her name is Diamonds and Rubies, AKA Di! She was pick of the litter! Chaps was second pick.

Can you believe that Chaps was not first pick? LOL!

I no longer am in touch with the breeder. They totally wrote me off when Emma went blind, but I am all about showing pictures I took when I picked up the kids!

Can you believe how cute Chaps sister is?

More pictures I took later…….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Lazy Sunday Evening with the kids……

August 9th, 2009 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Lazy Sunday Evening Lovers……

As you can see by the pictures we are enjoying our Sunday evening. First off, Grandma came down to give the kids squeeze and Emma had a nice belly rub!

img_2691

There is just nothing in the world softer than Emma’s cute belly! Look how it matches my pillows. hehe

Then she came out to the little TV room with me and got into her “special” bed! This is the bed that she had when she was recovering from her back surgery and could not get on the couch. Now I encourage her to use it when were are in that room. She seems to love it!

img_2727

That’s our Emmers! She loves to burrow!

I was so happy I had my camera because Chaps was having the best time finding his spot on the big bed. He drug that pillow into the middle by the window.

img_2709

What a perfect Sunday evening. He sat like that for quite awhile. So serene and peaceful. Then he had to check on me.

img_27141

What a good and smart boy. One last shot and it was lights out for his evening nap.

Have a great night dear readers……..

More sweet dreams later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

When is this stupid study going to end?

August 9th, 2009 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and knowing that your hound is smart lovers: I am so sick of this stupid study that crops up every year about what dog is the smartest and what dog is the dumbest. The study is just plain stupid and dumb. I hate using those word and I hardly ever do, but in this case it is called for. Don’t these idiots have anything better to do? They come up with the same lame results every year. It is getting really old.

You cannot tell a basset hound lover that this breed is dumb or as the study puts it , “A dunce”! Oh, and by the way, they spelled Basset with 2 ts. Now who is the dunce?

I am so mad. This is a partial excerpt from the “study”. Give me a break…..

“Data gathered by more than 200 dog obedience judges revealed the brainiest breeds.

Border collies top the pack, followed by poodles, German shepherds and golden retrievers.

Hounds fared less well, with the bassett hound, bloodhound, Afghan hound and beagle, all joining the bulldog in the low intelligence stakes.

Professor Coren said the differences could be at least partly explained by the breeds’ histories.

He said: ‘The dogs that are the brightest in terms of school learning ability tend to be the dogs that are much more recently developed.

‘There’s a high probability that we’ve been breeding dogs so they’re more responsive to human beings and human signals.

‘It’s important to note that these breeds which don’t do so well tend to be considerably older breeds.

‘These dogs were developed when the task of a hound’ was to find something by smell or sight.’

And, in an attempt to mollify hound-owners, the added that bright dogs do not necessarily make the best pets.

While a smart dog will quickly learn what is expected, it will also be better at working out just how much it can get away with.

Describing beagles as ‘sweet and sociable’, he said: ‘We like dogs that understand us.

‘Sometimes people love the dumb blonde.”……….

End of excerpt………….

Notice how they try to mollify the hound lovers. They liken a basset to a dumb blonde? How many real bondes do you know? What they are saying is a dumb girl. They didn’t say a dumb jock.

I know, I am taking this way to seriously. But NO ONE is going to tell me that Chaps and Emma are dumb or dunces. I dare that “professor” to come to my house and see how Emma navigates her surroundings and how Chaps makes sure she is not in danger. I am just furious…. and crying.

Inspector Dolittle in the biggest sniff job of his life! A murder mystery by Julian, my nephew.

August 8th, 2009 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Murder Mystery Lovers! Well, my nephew Julian is one of those. He wrote, produced, directed, designed and did the spoken word for his short murder mystery. Julian wrote part 1 of 2 in this mystery series back in October of 2008 and I am now just getting it into a format that we love. Again, this is part 1 of 2 in the Inspector Dolittle series. Chaps is the inspiration for the Inspector Dolittle character as you will see! They have been partners in crime for years.

img_60281

Emma is OK letting her big boy friend fight the crime. She is happy to lay in my lap and be PROUD!

So, without further delay…………

Be warned, this murder mystery is scary and maybe PG12 due to slight violence!!!

WRITTEN STORY WITH PICTURES………

My name is Inspector Dolittle. I am not your ordinary Basset Hound. I am a sniff dog to find the toughest of criminals. But at the moment, the biggest task at hand was to eat the meal in front of me. “Finish your meal, Inspector.” That is my human female master, JoAnn.

img_8265

We were just about to go on the most large, most important sniffing job of our lives. The maker of the biggest dog breeding company in the world was murdered the other day. I was assigned to find the criminal! After I finished my meal, we went on the motorized vehicle JoAnn likes to call the Pooter Scooter’.

pooter-scooter-copy

We were heading to the scene of the crime. It was the dog breeders home. Once we got there. I instantly caught a sent! ” Looks like Inspector got something.” I followed that sent all the way to a graveyard with the humans not far behind.

img_7730

I found a dead body. That body had another sent that I instantly followed once again. This time, it lead to an deserted car. No dead bodies. No other sent. But a few short seconds later, a fast car pulled up and the person inside said to get in. We drove at 70 mph or above the whole entire time.

bosshog

Suddenly, bullets were flying everywhere! One of them got the person driving and the car spun out of control. When I woke up, there were ten people in the car when we first began the chase, now, four were dead, three were missing, and three were alive. Thank god JoAnn was alive. But I also before sniffed one of the people that are now missing. So yet again, I got a sent of the person that was missing and started following the trail of smells. It was at a small area of dessert that we found the first body. I also caught the sent of one of the other missing people. This time, it lead us to a tall tree and the next person was at the top. We had a lot trouble getting him down.

img_8725

The last sent pointed to a car with the last person in the back. The only one of those that were dead was the one that was in the dessert. One last sent lead to a horrible looking house. We went inside and found the culprit! I was awarded a metal at the Town Hall the next day. The culprit was an owner of another dog breeding company that would never do as well as the other one, which is probably the reason he killed the other owner. That is the end of the biggest sniff job of my life.

The end of part 1 by Julian………..

More later including part 2……..Love Cat, Chaps and Emma
