Chaps and Emma’s adoption announcement…..

August 6th, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and adoption announcement lovers: I had to show you the adoption announcement I sent out to my friends and family back in July of 2004. It said something like……

“I am thrilled to announce the adoption of my 2 babies Chaps and Emma. Chaps weighs in at 75 pounds and 36” long. Emma weighs in at 20 pounds and 18” long. Please do not send baby gifts just checks made out to CAMPBELL COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER in the enclosed envelop.

Please put in the memo section, IN HONOR OF LILY AND CHLOE RUDERT.”

chapsemma_2

I think we made about 100.00 dollars for the shelter. I decided to go with my county pound because I could not get several area basset hound rescues to e-mail me back. Sad, but true. I know the doe went to good use and now I am the first one Campbell County Animal Shelter calls when they get a basset hound. So, I guess it all happens for a reason!

Two big beautiful reasons! OMG I could just dive into that old picture and kiss those faces. They were both so, “Who is the smothering lady?”

As we all know they found out quickly who the smothering lady was! hehe

More smothering later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Homeless hounds that became residents of basset hound town!

August 6th, 2009 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and success story lovers: I want to have a sub-blog category where I can organize all of the homeless hounds that the residents of basset hound town have helped. You may have donated, networked, blogged, adopted, or just slung positive drool but together we made some hounds dreams come true.

So, I was working on a new header for our sub-blog category and I came up with this.

730x297-rescue-header

My friend and graphic designer was over helping me with her photoshop skills this week. After we were well along with it I became overwhelmed and burst out in tears just looking at all of those faces together. Heck, I am crying now just remembering all of the stories.

These are all of the hounds to date that have been helped by basset hound town. As we help more I am going to make the hounds smaller to add more faces. I will also ask my website designer if we can make the header space larger. I want a special place for our forever home finders.

Did you notice at the top it says…..

bassethoundtownrescue.com

I splurged and bought the domain name for 40.00. I will be making this domain a 501(c)3 – not for profit in the future. It might take years but I will make it happen.

More rags to riches later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I bought this item years ago and forgot I had it!

August 4th, 2009 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and items that you forgot you had lovers! I guess it was about 4 years ago I bought this item off of ebay and stuck it away. At the time I was buying stuff for the the website boutique and I totally forgot all about it. I have never seen an item like this since and I have never seen one on a car! I think I bought it from England. It is a brass grill decoration for a car! I need to have Honda put it on because I cannot figure it out to make sure it is really secure. How cool is our basset hauling vehicle going to be? It goes on the front grill.

img_2679

It is about 5 inches long and very heavy. I remember when I got it, I could not figure out how to make it work, so I stuck it away.

Here is the back.

I love finding secret treasures, in my own home! I want to put it right next to the Honda Logo……

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Buttermilk’s old high school photo lovers. This is so funny. A facebook friend posted this today. A website where you can put your picture in and see how you would have looked as a student during a particular year! I was LOL at her post and she suggested that I do a basset hound! I picked Buttermilk…. Thanks Jodye! hehe

It has been a L O N G wet day……….

August 4th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Not Wet Dog Lovers….You ask why not wet dog? Because like most hounds, mine do not get their paw pads wet. Ever! Anyway, it poured, teaming rain all day long. Thunder started rolling through at about 5:00am which means one thing. I was up with Chaps at 5:00am.

So, around 3:00ish, after my Mom had been working with Chaps out in the living room so I could get some work done, I decided to stick a cotton ball in each of Chaps ears. I don’t know if Chaps was just completely exhausted or if it worked a little bit but he crawled into bed and collapsed. I will not have the verdict on that one until the next storm. I tried cotton wipes before, but never the balls. I have high hopes!

So, it has finally quit raining and I was checking the front yard for my baby dove. The Mommy has parked her fledgling right under the cherry tree. This is where she teaches baby to fly. I had been worried about little grey goddess (that is what I call her). So, sure nuff – she is on the front pathway.

img_2629

See if you can spot her. I am amazed at how doves blend into the background. Just a stunning example of Mother Nature.

Here she is walking towards the ladies room….

img_2630

Here is the Mayor – “Mommy, excuse me. What are you in the bad outdoors?”

img_2633

See grey goddess heading into the ladies room escaping the evil picture taking human?

img_2632

Now Chaps really starts freaking out. He cannot for the life of him figure out why I would want to be outside and not holding his massive paw! He has moved from the front window to the sliding glass doors that lead out to the ladies room…

Check out his “worried face”!

img_2636

Looks like Mommy has taught her fledgling well…….

img_2634

Just like I have taught my little fledgling….Miss Emma to look so cute! This is our Emma after I came back in.

img_2640

So, I was getting ready to make dinner and I spotted this. Miss grey goddess was back drying her beautiful feathers!

img_2645

img_2670

Remember she was in the teaming rain all day. A light breeze was blowing in this shot….

img_2660

I think she likes us…..

img_2668

Looks like she weathered the storm just fine. Thank goodness she did not need cotton balls for her ears!

More beautiful preening later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Vintage picure of Emma with Julian and his Mom!

August 3rd, 2009 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow basset hound and Emma as a pup lovers! I thought that this picture would be fun to post because Julian and his Mom are going to have a pup in their life soon! Look how young Julian and Emma look! My sister, Caryn has seemed not to age at all! This was about 5 years ago!

caryn-julian-and-emma

Oh how we babied young Emma and still do! This was 2 days after I brought her home!

Kerry, thanks for your comment about Emma and wanting to see more of her!

More loving that Emma hound later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Who loves guinea pigs?

August 3rd, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow guinea pig and basset hound lovers! I just had to show you this picture that I found of my sweet guinea pigs. I had guinea pigs since I was about 7 years old. I was obsessed with guinea pigs. I wanted to show my dear readers the last and final guinea pigs I ever had. This was about 17 years ago. It coincides with getting basset hounds.

I could never have a dog where I lived or with my job so I had my pigs. I loved my pigs.

A lot has changed since then, and oh how I love that change. What would I do without my precious hounds?

untitled-18_4

Angel is on the left and Pig Newton is on the right. I had them in a box while I was cleaning their cage. I just love how cute guinea pig lips are.

No more pigs for me! I do love the memories however!

More pig memories later…….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I thought that you might like to see baby Romeo updates?

August 3rd, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Mastiff Lovers. I have to say that I am one because of Stella. She was a Neapolitan Mastiff that my sister and her husband had prior to Julian’s birth. I was with them when they adopted her.

She remained in the family for about 6 more years after Julian was born. She went over the rainbow bridge from old age. She was a really sweet girl.

100-0013_img

She had a beautiful blue hue about her. I would lay next to her and tell her how short her ears were! She loved when I played with her inadequate ears. LOL!

Anyway, I thought that you would love to follow the new English Mastiff that is coming soon. In about 3 weeks actually. My sister just got this pic of Romeo today. He is going to be a BIG part of our family.

daisygreen82

I bet this pup grows leaps and bounds by the time we actually get to see him.

More about Romeo later………..Love Cat, Chaps and Emma

I furminated the Mayor’s rear end yesterday!

August 3rd, 2009 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Furminator Lovers: Do you furminate your basset hounds? I bought a furminator about a year ago and it does work really well. Chaps has a fair amount of smaller cysts on his bod so I use it very gently, but I still get a goodly amount of dead hair off of him. This pile was about 10 passes per cheek.

img_2601

He got bored with it before he hightailed it out the dog door. You are viewing the area I was working on. He gets a bit fluffy back there.

img_2606

Emma is a huge reason we do, what my Mom calls, de-hairing, (mopping, vacuuming, shaking, washing, bathing, and furminating), so often. Emma is allergic to dander. She got a good whiff before I could whisk the culprit away.

img_2608

Emma’s turn is next.

Hey, have you ever seen this YouTube of Frank the Tank and Sweet Sarah getting Furminated? I have seen it several times, but it is always worth watching again. That Frank is just a character.

Hang on Emma, your are next!

More Furminating Later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
