Know your neighbors…..
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and needing to know the news lovers!
I try to keep this blog positive, but this is too important of a topic not to pass along. I found this article on the net entitled:
NAPERVILLE, IL MAN CHARGED WITH TRYING TO POISON NEIGHBOR’S DOGS
Naperville police have arrested a man they say tried to poison his neighbor’s three dogs.
The pets, two 5-year-old basset hounds and a 2-year-old collie, were not harmed.
William J. Carboni, 43, of 2923 Stonewater Drive, is accused of placing raw meat with rodent poison in his neighbor’s backyard on Sept. 2, Cmdr. Mike Anders said Friday.
“The victim indicated he had conversations before with this particular neighbor on each of the dogs barking,” Anders said.
The dogs’ owner, who lives on the 2900 block of Cedar Glade Drive, noticed suspicious looking meat in his yard and took the dogs to an animal hospital for preventive care.
Police previously had received three complaints about the dogs but deemed them unfounded.
Carboni has been charged with attempted aggravated cruel treatment of animals, a Class A misdemeanor.
He was arrested Thursday and taken to the police department’s detention facility. He posted 10 percent of his $2,500 bail and was released.
Carboni is due Oct. 14 in Will Court court.

Note from Cat. I have had some really bad neighbors. Maybe I should say crazy. Long gone, is the one that would walk back and forth in front of his house in full camo. He would carry his bible and his hunting rifle while singing hymns. OK, to each his own, but when he started high power spraying Chloe and Lily the cops became involved. Let’s just say we kept a really wide birth. Chloe and Lily never barked or howled for more than a few minutes. I always was and am a good neighbor. I follow all of the rules in my town. We were just a victim of a nut job.
Be vigilant our residents. Keep a close watch on your fence lines if you are the least bit uncertain.
More knowing your neighbors later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
P.S. Can you even imagine Chloe and Lily being treated like that? I saw the entire thing. Still brings tears to my eyes.
It always brakes my heart when we see this stuff. We had someone poison and kill our sons Black Lab Snoopy. The Vet ran test and said it was so. I don’t care if your dogs bark or not, this is not right its down right mean!
My dogs bark when they play! The kids next door yell and shout when they play! To me it is the same. WE don’t have a dog door so I know when my dogs are barking because I am with them. They need to bark, not 24/7 but they do have a need to express themselves. I give my bassets 5 minutes by my watch to bark then I step in and stop the barking. I know some dogs are bored and bark because of that, I just don’t understand people that feel the only way to stop a problem is by killing the dogs. A dear friend in Or. had her bassets poisoned also they got sick but were saved in time. The reason from the neighbor was the same as this guy, barking, I have been lucky with having good neighbors only a few problems with things like the kids tossing rocks over the fence and with a little talk and education things worked out but not every one is so lucky..I know dog doors can be a blessing but for me I think not. I am so happy there was a good out come and the dogs didn’t get the poison but how many poor souls like Snoopy are out there and have passed because of a bad neighbor. There are many hateful people in this world we need to keep a good eye to protect our fourlegged kids to keep them safe and sadly some times that isn’t enought in this angery world we live in. Tonight at Camp Toast we will light a candle for all the animals that have been victims and a candle for those sad people that feel the only way to stop a problem is by hurting or killing pawhaps they will some day see the light and have peace.
Ah, thanks so much for the comments. Wanda I am so sorry for Snoopy. So very sorry. It just breaks my heart. A poor innocent dog. God rest his soul.
Sandy – your comments are so fitting and so true. You really touched on some major topics that I hope many people read. I do have a dog door, but when I leave home and they are alone I close the door. I just cannot trust they will be safe without me looking out for them. I know many folks cannot do that due to long work days and we all have different situations.
I consider myself on the over protective side. I close the door due to the neighbors and the fact that I cannot trust that someone will not open their gate – even though I have a lock on it. My nephew calls me the safety woman and I am proud of it!
Love, Aunt Kit Cat! hehe
What a perfectly vile individual, grrrr! All of my neighbors are all wonderful people–and really good friends as well as neighbors. I am SO fortunate! My one neighbor calls the boys, “those ol’ pot lickers”, but he really likes them a lot, despite their barking when they are outside;) Good story about my neighbor: Last spring there was an artist who was painting a watercolor of both our homes and the view up the road from the museum next door and he was going to enter it in a show that evening at local the historical society. Harley kept barking at him over the fence at end of my front porch, so in the watercolor the artist included his sweet face peering over the fence. We all went to the opening that night, and when I saw the painting I wanted it with all my heart, because it had our house and, more importantly, Harley in it–yet I knew we couldn’t afford to buy it. My wonderful neighbor purchased the painting for us as a “thank you” gift for always watching their cats when they go away, and also because he knows how much we love our dogs!! How wonderful is THAT??!! God bless good neighbors…

Naperville is right next to wear I live. This type of behavior always shocks me. There are ways to deal with issues like this, that don’t involve killing. I will let you know if I hear anything more about this.
Thanks for posting.
P.S. In the past, I have preferred my neighbors dogs to some of my neighbors.
