A public service announcment from your Mayor…

September 20th, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and loving to travel the National parks lovers: This public service announcement from your Mayor is about a six-episode series directed by Ken Burns that will start airing next Sunday evening on your local PBS stations. It is called:

THE NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA’S BEST IDEA

Filmed over the course of more than six years at some of nature’s most spectacular locales from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska THE NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA’S BEST IDEA is nonetheless a story of people: people from every conceivable background rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy. It is a story full of struggle and conflict, high ideals and crass opportunism, stirring adventure and enduring inspiration – set against the most breathtaking backdrops imaginable.

I am really excited about watching because I want to re-visit as many of these parks as possible in the coming years with the kids.

I was really lucky as a kid myself to enjoy many of them with my family! From Mount Rushmore to Mammoth Cave we camped across the USA.

That is me on the far right. I remember that it was chilly that morning and Mommy put us in our terry cloth swim suit cover ups! It was a summer vacation so we did not have sweaters with us!

I had to laugh when I looked at the important men carved into stone. See that place on the far left? Not exactly next to President Washington, but on that far end. I can see the Mayor carved there, looking off, just as majestic as the other fellows.

IMG_3511

Doesn’t that look perfect for the Mayor?

IMG_0251

OMG! I can see it plain as day!

Today, 9-20-09, is the last Sunday of the Summer…

September 20th, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and saying good bye to Summer Sunday Lovers! Here in Basset Hound Town we always look forward to the end of Summer. The fall is our favorite time of year. However, we have been way blessed with a wonderful Summer full of fun.

Today, on our last Sunday of Summer we are enjoying the rain. It is a nice rain with no thunder or lightening. We just laid grass seed on the lawn and we could have not asked for a better way to have it watered.

So, here are a few pictures of our last Sunday of Summer! I actually tried to capture the rain falling in my back yard.

IMG_3482

Yesterday the kids got a bath and today I decided to give my BHV a bath! hehehe

Here is Chaps watching me take pictures. You can see Emma in the background on the office bed.

IMG_3488

I love that door screen. The kids can just come and go without the hassle of the dog door. Plus it saves Emma’s back from that jump she makes.

Here is how Chaps enjoys his last Sunday of Summer. He would rather go on a walk, but he is fine as long as he can just be with Emma and I.

IMG_3499

Here is hoping you enjoy your last Sunday of the Summer just as much as we do.

More enjoying later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Know your neighbors…..

September 18th, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and needing to know the news lovers!

I try to keep this blog positive, but this is too important of a topic not to pass along. I found this article on the net entitled:

NAPERVILLE, IL MAN CHARGED WITH TRYING TO POISON NEIGHBOR’S DOGS

william j. carboni

Naperville police have arrested a man they say tried to poison his neighbor’s three dogs.

The pets, two 5-year-old basset hounds and a 2-year-old collie, were not harmed.

William J. Carboni, 43, of 2923 Stonewater Drive, is accused of placing raw meat with rodent poison in his neighbor’s backyard on Sept. 2, Cmdr. Mike Anders said Friday.

“The victim indicated he had conversations before with this particular neighbor on each of the dogs barking,” Anders said.

The dogs’ owner, who lives on the 2900 block of Cedar Glade Drive, noticed suspicious looking meat in his yard and took the dogs to an animal hospital for preventive care.

Police previously had received three complaints about the dogs but deemed them unfounded.

Carboni has been charged with attempted aggravated cruel treatment of animals, a Class A misdemeanor.

He was arrested Thursday and taken to the police department’s detention facility. He posted 10 percent of his $2,500 bail and was released.

Carboni is due Oct. 14 in Will Court court.

END OF ARTICLE…..

Note from Cat. I have had some really bad neighbors. Maybe I should say crazy. Long gone, is the one that would walk back and forth in front of his house in full camo. He would carry his bible and his hunting rifle while singing hymns. OK, to each his own, but when he started high power spraying Chloe and Lily the cops became involved. Let’s just say we kept a really wide birth. Chloe and Lily never barked or howled for more than a few minutes. I always was and am a good neighbor. I follow all of the rules in my town. We were just a victim of a nut job.

Be vigilant our residents. Keep a close watch on your fence lines if you are the least bit uncertain.

More knowing your neighbors later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. Can you even imagine Chloe and Lily being treated like that? I saw the entire thing. Still brings tears to my eyes.

Emma Smiles for Ice Cream!

September 18th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Emma smiling lovers. Today I took Grandpa to the park for some exercise. Grandpa used to walk the dogs every day so he was so excited to get back out with them just for fun. Of course Grandpa is the treat guy. Look at Emma’s mouth! hehehe

IMG_3460

Grandpa also has on his MI waddle shirt from years ago.

Here we are heading back to the area where Grandpa is resting. Grandma, Chaps, Emma and I went much further down the road! You can kind of make out Grandpa in his blue shirt!

IMG_3458

Here is Grandpa waiting in the car for us. I have the ramp all set up for the kids. It was such a nice day in the park!

IMG_3480

OK, now for why I entitled this blog, “Emma Smiles for Ice Cream!” When we got home Grandpa asked if he could give the kids a treat. I suggested a tablespoon of vanilla ice cream, well, just because!

Emma smiles for ice cream

Have you ever seen a hound smile? I wish I could only eat a tablespoon! LOL

Twas a rough night for our friend Scully:(

September 17th, 2009 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Scully Lovers!

This just in from the Monster herself……

cropIMG_2677

Well, I just knew things were going a little too smoothly…sigh. I had an awful night, and am currently at the vet for the day, and possibly overnight tonight.

Last night was quite scary and nobody got any sleep around here! I seemed ok when I got home from chemo, but then within an hour, started wanting to go out to pee all the time. Then, I didn’t touch my dinner, and refused treats and my pills (which I usually happily devour since they are hidden in yummy stuff). I didn’t want to drink either, and started peeing in the house. Basically, I was just laying around all night like a miserable lump, panting and breathing heavy.

My humans tried to force water into my mouth with a syringe, which I really did not appreciate. I’m dehydrated today though, so the vet wanted me to stay there for the day to get fluids. Hopefully, they can make me feel better and find out if something else is going on.

It could be that my body is rebelling against having the weekly chemo, and it’s just too much for me. I was supposed to do another session next week, but we’ll see.

If anyone has any spare drool to fling in my direction, I could really use it now more than ever!

Luv and licks,
Scully

Howllo fellow VMI lovers! I just had to post this.

Look what Ronald gets to do today.

Release courtesy James Madison University Office of Public Affairs

Special delivery. It may sound cliche but that’s exactly what the ROTC units from James Madison University and Virginia Military Institute plan to do with the game ball for their schools’ Sept. 19 football game.

The VMI’s Marshall-New Market Battalion and JMU Duke Battalion will march the game ball from Lexington to Harrisonburg as a tribute to the sacrifice of the nation’s men and women who are serving in the Armed Forces around the world.

The march will begin on Thursday, Sept. 17, in front of VMI’s Cameron Hall with a ceremony at 11 a.m. A send-off party is planned as the cadets embark on the three-day, 61-mile journey.

On day one, the ROTC cadets will march 17 miles from VMI to Raphine where they will camp at the Cyrus McCormick Farm. The march on day two will consist of 24 miles to the Verona Volunteer Fire Department. Cadets will march 20 miles on day three ending up at Bridgeforth Stadium in time for the scheduled 6 p.m. kickoff. The march will follow U.S. Route 11 all the way from Lexington to Harrisonburg.

Everyone is encouraged to show their support for America’s servicemen and women by cheering on the cadets during the march.

I had to share photos from Charlie and Viv!

September 17th, 2009 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Charlie and Viv Lovers! OMG! Charlie and Viv are my friends on Face book and I get so excited when new pictures are posted of them. This first picture is of Charlie…..I swear I think he look human!

This next picture is of Vivian.

I think we determined that Vivian was somehow related to Chaps. I can’t remember. OK folks, why can’t I have neighbors like this? I think I would flip out If someone moved next door to me with basset hounds.

Just yesterday, my Mom and I were out running errands and someone had told me where a basset hound lived in my town. So, we ride by and park in front of their house to see if we could catch a glimpse. The hound never did appear, but I just wonder what the family would think if they looked outside and saw my Element with those giant pictures of Chaps and Emma.

How funny.

More funny stories later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Wild horses by Susan Boyle….

September 16th, 2009 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Wild Horses lovers…..

Did you watch America’s Got Talent tonight? OMG the performance by Susan Boyle was of a truly emotional experience . I jumped on YouTube, but nothing yet. Let me go look again. I am thinking that YouTube will not allow it. But I found this. Wild horses is her new single. I will keep checking to see if they let the live performance through. I sure hope so. I love crying in moments like this.

More loving sweet voices later…Cat, Chaps and Emma

ENJOY!
