Sign of the times…bonded Sr. male bassets out in the cold
Pending…..
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Bonded Sr. Basset Hound lovers: Well, like I said, it is a sign of the times. People are still losing their homes to foreclosure and pets like humans suffer as well. Over the weekend I learned of this Sr. bonded pair of male basset hounds in the Cleveland, OH area that are in need of a new home. I spent a fair amount of time talking with their Mom and learning about the couple. The bonded pair are currently living in the garage with a dog door to the back yard. Their Mom’s home is being foreclosed upon and she is living in an apartment that will not allow dogs. The bank wants the dogs out of the home ASAP.
Their Mom told me that the eldest is 12 and is a long haired basset hound.
OK? A long haired basset hound? I told their Mom, I need pictures. So, here is Spotty Joe, 12 years old, neutered and very loving….with long hair!
He loves kids. How often have you seen a long haired basset hound? I have once or twice. His Mommy said he came from a breeder in Southern, OH.
Here is his belly up pose. His birthday is in April.
One more of Spotty Joe. The poor guys are getting really depressed. Their Mom has tried most of the Cleveland area rescues. Of course the pound is not an option.
Ohio Basset Hound Rescue cannot take them. They are full and boarding at kennels. Marilyn at HOP knows about the pair. She is at 20 which is over capacity. She is bursting at the seams. She is helping me with networking.
Now for Spotty Joe’s best friend, Rocky…..
Rocky is 9, neutered and uses Spotty Joe as a pillow. They are extremely bonded and must be placed together.
Rocky came from a pet store in Akron, OH. His birthday is in July.
You can see the gray on his head. They both love kids and other dogs. They have been away from their family for months and need a place to land.
This is them in their back yard. It’s going to get cold out soon and plus the bank won’t let them stay.
I told their Mom I would help. I have called their vet and have confirmed their ages. Neither one has been to the vet in a few years.
Times are ruff and the family pets are in just as much need of help. I don’t want to know all of the details of what went down for this family, I just want to get these guys out of the garage and onto a couch.
Anyone???????????
I will keep everyone posted on this pair. They are certainly a work in progress for Basset Hound Town……
More loving gray faces later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma
Poor guys. This is going to stress them out so bad that they could have a heart attack. How very sad. I hope I NEVER get in a situation where I have to give up my dogs. I think I would somehow, some way figure out a plan to keep them. Too sad. I’d take them in a heartbeat if I could.
I feel for the family as well as the pair. Wish we had room and were closer. Is there a way to do a fund raising for the family to keep the hounds? I don’t remember where I read or saw it but seems to me there was a group that help board dogs as well as cats til the family got on their feet again. Or am I wrong?
Hi Wanda – The hounds are being relinquished for good. I might do a fund raiser to help pay for boarding. I am just hoping that someone sees this and wants them. I will be doing a bunch of cross posting as well. Thanks for suggesting that.
Cat
I’ll see what I can do to help, Cat. I think if the bank wants the house they should move the bassets into their executive suite! It might help with the foreclosed pet situation that is getting way out of control.
Chris
Chris – thanks so much. I had to LOL at your suggestion. I like it!
Cat
I have never seen a fluffy basset hound before! Incredibly beautiful. What a sweet pair. Oh, this is just making me cry (I’ve been a little emotional the last day anyway) … I wish I had tons of money and I would just put them on that pet airline and bring them up here with us. Old buddies should stay together and be comfortable and safe.
Oh, I just can’t stop crying.
I have 2 long-haired bassets (old too–12 and 13)and would love to have them, if only to foster. However, I have no way to get them. I live in Florida and my car needs work before I could travel. How long has the bank given them? If I can get my car into the shop, I’ll at least foster
Kathi! I just sent you a more detailed e-mail. I just wanted to tell you how much I admire you for trying to help. I will answer all of your questions tomorrow and get you in touch with the old men. I know we can set up a transport. We can work on this further tomorrow. ((((((((Kathi))))))))
Love Cat
Oh, that sounds great!!!!! I wish Texas was between Kentucky & Florida, so we could do the transport. Bless you Kathi for offering to Foster this precious pair! Keep us all posted.
Ooooh, fingers crossed that this develops into something wonderful! They are so sweet-looking and obviously in need of TLC.
If the transport comes through central NC, count me in for a leg.
Hey Halle – the transport would not go through your state Boooooo! That would have been fun. It looks like if this thing flies it would be a 16 hour drive from Cleveland to Tallahassee. Well worth it for 2 old men in need of a soft couch! What’s the diff? Sit in a garage or sit in a van on the way to a new life! I think they would pick the latter! YES!
I will keep my dear and wonderful readers updated later….
Love CAt
Oh Cat this is the best news. We live way…. up north in Wisconsin or I would love to help. I will keep my fingers crossed and prayers lifted. Thank you Kathi for your love and open arms and house. God Bless you all.
Wanda
Can’t all of us that are willing to help with transport spread out in the US in a way that we can always be in the right place at the right time? Boy, sure wish it was that easy. I’m stuck way down south! Whaaaaaa! Your a sweetheart Cat and Kathi…your the best! I pray that the hounds get a ride and have a safe happy trip.
To those who read and leave comments-I want you all to know that I do know the family of these two-and know that she has done whatever was possible to keep her boys-but has finally realized there is nothing more that can be done.
I offer the use of my van if somehow she can be met half way. What else can be done? I truly would drive them down myself if I was able.
God bless You All!!!
Hi Susiebird! Thanks for the comments. It was a very kind and generous gal who offered to take this Sr. Pair into her home to ease them through the rest of their life.
Offers like this are rare at best. I cannot thank Kathi enough. I sure hope that the family can find a way to get the boys to FL. That would be such a great retirement home.
Thanks for the comment!
Cat
Cat – while I can’t have another dog, I will be waiting to hear if you do a fundraiser!
Candy and Bailey
Candy – that is so sweet. I think that is in order and I have been thinking about a cute way to do that! I have some cool stuff to sell and with the Howlidays coming up!!!!!! hehehe
Cat
I live in Maryland and would be glad to drive a leg of the trip.
Marty and he PET girls
Cat,
I would like to help, please let me know about a fund raiser-I could send a small check.
I do have a long-haired basset named “Olive Oil”….they don’t come out that way often but they are all basset.
