Weird bird event on my back deck???
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and weird bird event lovers….
It was the oddest thing. I was sitting at my desk working. I have a door in my office with a window and I saw a giant blue jay fly up and land on one of my flower pots. Here is a picture of Chaps during the summer next to flower pots. This is basically what I see out of my door if it is open. The window is about half of this view.
My camera is still at my sisters and I am kicking myself for leaving it there. I can take pictures with my lap top, but not pictures of the blue jays. Anyway, back to the story.
Then another blue jay flew up and landed on another pot. I kid you not these Blue Jays were as big as small chickens. Huge I tell you. When they landed they shook the entire stand. Does anyone know if both the male and female are bright blue? OK, then one of the Blue Jays started using it’s beak like a shovel and digging dirt out of the pot. It was crazy! The dirt was flying all over the place. The other one was watching and jumping around. Then about 6 smaller birds (chickadees) flew up and landing all over the place. So, I am sitting here enjoying the show, not moving so I would not scare them off and guess what????? I heard all kinds of loud pecking. Then a monster red headed woodpecker flew up and landed on the railing of the deck with both the blue jays! It only lasted a few seconds and they all flew off.
OK so, here I am typing away about my weird bird event and guess what? Two baby blue jays just flew up and landed on the same flower pots. They were the cutest babies you have ever seen. I bet that one was shoveling for food for the babies.
So, there you have it. A fun diversion from work!
Hopefully more entertaining weird bird events later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
Those are your blue jay babies coming back home to visit! Well, Jethro, Rugs, Oz and Harriet heard the same thing on the phone that Chaps heard. We’re going to get our nails trimmed on Thursday! Fun, fun!
Bumper and Abby put up with three giant parrots in our house – you talk about BIG birds. We need nails trimmed also – both dogs and all three birds. There is never a dull moment around here!
It is so tragic that you are cameraless with all this going on!
By the way, I heard Chaps’ concern about his nails being clipped. Cat, have you ever tried to clip them yourself?
Cat- Are you sure you haven’t started nipping at the Basset hound wine a little early??? LOL
That’s a cool story – but if you start seeing giant Blue Jays and pink elephants – we will have to have an intervension. haha
LOL – Candy!
