Emma’s sister Ch. BoBac Duluxe of Switchstand, ROM passes away:(
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Emma’s Sister Lovers…. Her name was Diva and she was pick of the litter. Here she is right in the middle…
Emma is on the very end to the right and Diva is 2 over from her to left if you are viewing the picture.
Diva passed away recently from cancer. I was not advised of her passing but found out from a third party. Apparently, Diva had a tumor in her stomach and was sent to the bridge during her surgery. Diva, like Emma was only 5 years old. Also, like Emma, Diva had primary glaucoma and lost one of her eyes.
I was shocked by her death because I had contacted her owner in early December 2009 to inquire about her health. I was hurt and saddened that this breeder and BHCA judge did not think enough about Diva’s sister, our Emma, to let me know. I find this unconscionable.
Diva, (Ch. BoBac Duluxe of Switchstand, ROM) was recently awarded the top producing bitch of 2009 as reported by the Tally Ho A very detailed explanation of this title can be found in the comment section by Mary. Thank you Mary.
Also reported in the Tally Ho was that Diva was owned by Richard and Sharon Nance of BoBac Bassets but that was not correct. Diva was owned by Doug and Missy Taylor but came from BoBac by Richard and Sharon Nance. Again, she was Emma’s sister. Their parents were Dawn’s First Light and Titan.
I am not sure how many litters Diva had but her winning puppies in 2009 were listed as:
Ch. Switchstand Cannonball
Ch. Switchstand Motor Queen
Ch. Switchstand Storm Queen
Ch. Switchstand Katy Flyer of BoBac
Ch. Switchstand Avalanche
Ch. Switchstand Challenger
Poor Diva – May she now rest in peace…
More later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma who loved her sister as you can see from the photo….
Cat I am sorry you were not told of Diva’s situation. You would think that with cancer and loosing of an eye they would want the other’s (if known) told about this, so you could watch for the problems. She was a beautiful girl, “not as pretty as your Emma however” 🙂
Run Free Diva
Thank you Wanda. I really appreciate your comments. You would think that the ethical thing to do would be to contact all of Diva’s offspring and siblings. Both BoBac and Switchstand know every one of them. The lack of compassion just rocks me to the core.
I agree with you about our Emma. She is beyond pretty!
Thanks again Wanda
Cat
I am so sorry to hear about Emma’s sister. It is a shame that you did not know about her passing. Hope Diva’s puppies are doing OK and that they do not have the problems their mother had in her short 5 years. She was a beautiful girl – just like Emma. I just love that sweet girl of yours.
Hi Judy – I sure hope Diva’s many, many puppies are are doing OK. I just hope that they find out what happened to their Mommy and they can hopefully watch for the signs and better than that, be proactive.
Thanks for your comments Judy. I just cannot stop looking at Emma and hugging her.
Cat
not right. in so many ways. again. like the eye issue.
poor diva. may her passing be a safe and speedy one.
is there a way to have emma tested to check her for the cancer? better safe than sorry…
i would be hugging her so tight her ears would be perpendicular to her head!
this breeder is in no way a responsible one in my eyes. every owner of one of their dogs should have been notified…kennel reputation be damned. everyone gets riled up about the irresponsibility of “backyard breeders” well in my eyes this one is just about the same…sure their dogs may win ribbons but at what cost…
is a dog a champion if so many others in a line must lose their sight or die from cancer?
awwww that is horrible i bet emma misses her terribly!!!!!!!!
awwww that is horrible i bet emma misses her terribly!!!! r.i.p diva
Lois – I know, it is not right on so many levels. I really wanted both Emma and Diva. My e-mails to Diva’s owners were heartfelt and sincere. I had even suggested that she come live with me. My Mom and I joked about Chaps having 2 Emmas. I knew that the drop routine was vigorous and needed a lot of attention that I was used to. She still had an eye that was being treated.
This is just one layer of the hurt that hits me.
This kennel knows of my blog and my disdain for BoBac Bassets.
There is no way to hide what is going on. I am so sad I am sick.
Emma’s ears are almost perpendicular!
Sniff
Thanks Lois…
Cat
Thank you Elvis and Savannah. We really love your comments…
Cat, Chaps and Emma
Cat, Diva has spread her puppies across the nation. Many of them have had puppies. Glaucoma and cancer is now in the breed. Like you reported, Diva was the top producer in 2009. Her owner is a Judge and a breeder. As a judge he is also friends with the Nances. Sharon gave him her “pick of the litter.” We all know this.
This is how the dog show world works. Keep up your blogging because many people read it but do not comment.
I know that for a fact.
Keep in mind that many people read this and learn.
Sorry about Diva and your sorrow.
Sam
I know Sam. I know so much. Thanks for your comment
Cat
This makes me sick. How can they be so irresponsible? Hug beautiful Emma for us. She is our pick of the litter.
Marty, Pollyanna,Emmie ATB and Teddi the PET gurlz
Marty, thank you. I love your comment. I am just so sad. I am furious with Diva’s parents. FURIOUS
Howl can they do this to Emma? Not me, Emma!
Cat
I will be doing a forum post on this. Keep checking back.
FYI – in terms of a “top producer” in AKC it doesn’t mean how many dogs are whelped by a bitch, but rather number of Champions. But it isn’t a huge number. To be a ROM, the bitch needs to have whelped maybe 10 Champions total. Then she would be a “top producer” and receive a ROM (Registry of Merit). For dogs it is different number, but same idea. I don’t know how BoBac kennels work, but I do know the AKC show kennels I am familiar with, only breed a bitch once or twice in their lifetime. Then they take the best of the pups ie. those with desired traits in relation to standard and do the breeding process over again with that generation. It takes a long time to get a kennel with the desired traits in their dogs.
What is disturbing, is the glaucoma. I agree with Sam. If they aren’t being diligent about testing for it in the offspring, then the fact she was a Champion and ROM doesn’t matter. Her owners have not helped advance the Basset Hound breed at all. And this stuff goes on in the show world all the time. Too few owners are willing to scrap everything they have done and start over when a serious problem shows up. It is expensive, but is the ethical thing to do.
Poor Diva. I hope she is resting now at the bridge.
Give Emma a big hug from all of us.
Thank you Sam – I have sorrow and anger. I just am so damn mad. I wanted Diva to come live with me when I heard she had glaucoma. I extended every thing I could to offer Doug help. I was basically ignored. I guess with the situation with Sharon and Richard Diva was caught in the middle.
One of the reasons I went to a “responsible breeder” in the first place is so we could have this network of knowledge. All I ever got were lies. I sure learned a lot and now I can pass my knowledge on. These unethical breeders can’t hide in their mills anymore.
The internet is a small world.
Cat
Mary –
Thank you for that detailed explanation regarding Diva’s title. I had a bit more knowledge about it, but I was still trying to put it into words. i also e-mailed a friend but then, voila, your comment came through.
I am not sure how many litters that Diva had but I would guess it was more than 2. Another friend of mine had a little girl from one of her litters that passed away at 14 months from no immune system.
There are 2 more in Emma’s litter with glaucoma that I know of. I have no track of 2 of them. There were 7 in the litter and one passed away shortly after birth.
I am going to comment more on your comment later. Emma is crying for breakfast! She is so funny. That girl can really eat. OMG! Chaps just chattered for his breakfast.
Cat
Is it money? Is it fame? Why in the world would a breeder act so irresponsible? All I have to say is that it’s very sickening.
Cindy.
Cindy – pure and simple GREED.
Cat- so sorry for your hurt and anger.
Cat, I am so, so sorry for your loss–and it is your loss, too, because Diva was Emma’s sister:( Poor sweet girl! I will light my candle tonight for Diva, and my boys are sending you tons and tons of warm drool to soothe your heart pain, and your justifiable anger. Mournful aroooooos,
Mary, Harley, Biggs and Leo
I am so sorry to hear of Diva’s passing, and it is definitely a shame that you were not informed when Diva went to the bridge.
I am still so upset that I cannot deal with this. I am actually wondering what really is going on. The dates I am getting are not adding up. I am just fuming.
I think Emma is definitely the “pick of the litter”
I am working on a forum posting about this and I will move it to my blog. People need to know howl these people try to fly under the radar. They can’t do it any more with the internet.
The Nances of BoBac sold me Emma, Diva’s sister knowing she had bilateral abnormal drainage angles. That is a red flag that all of the pups in this litter were compromised. Diva is case and point! I know others in the litter had or have glaucoma.
Greedy Breeders!
