Trooper would like to say thank you for caring!
February 9th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Trooper Lovers! This just in from our very own Trooper. He would like to howl, “Thank You For Caring”!
I am a real TROOPER! I still have a long row to hoe but I am going to do it! And guess who will help me?
All of my new friends and especially my Foster Mommy Ann!
Talk about a love bug!
More updates on Trooper later….Thanks Cindy for sending the residents of bassethoundtown this!
Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
What a wonderful gift to see Trooper sitting with his head up! Bless you Ann.
He has obviously been getting a lot of love and food and medicine.
Thank You Ann for sharing Trooper with us. It looks wonderful to see him sitting up and looks like he is feeling some better. He has such a loveable face in the top photo. Please keep us posted.
Love You Trooper
I am so happy our boy is on his way. It just kills me to see a skinny basset haunch. I look forward to seeing that fill out! You know me!
Cat
I think it’s a very big improvement considering it’s only been a week. When I saw that top picture my jaw just dropped and I said, “Awwwww”. I was at work and held back the tears. He’s on his way! He’s on his way…
Ann, you are the BEST! Thank you is not enough for all you are doing for Trooper. Please keep us posted. He is going to be great with all that Love you are giving him.
Trooper looks so much better, you can tell he feels loved and is being cared for.
So glad to see this sweet dog get the chance to be well and loved! Many Thanks sent to a wonderful foster family, you are making a difference!!!!
It is heartwarming to hear all of the wonderful, supportive thoughts from Trooper’s “cyber guardian angels” that watch over him. I pass your kind wishes on to him and he gives me sweet kisses to pass on to all of you! He is walking a little better now as he continues to eat and regain a little strength each day. He spends most of his day sleeping on his giant dog pillow. It is so cute to watch him artfully rearrange the blankets to his satisfaction before he curls up in a little ball. Thank you for your kindness and caring of Trooper – because this precious little hound is so deserving of a second chance! I look forward to bringing him to an adoption event to meet his angel friends as soon as he is deemed to be no longer contagious. He won’t be ready for adoption for quite some time – but he is very friendly and would love the attention! Take care. – Ann
Thank you Ann for keeping us updated. It is so wonderful to hear of Trooper finally feeling good enough to arrange his own blankets – all bassets should have that basic joy, and none more than Trooper.

Lots of love to Trooper and his new family. xxx
Bless his heart! Just noticed in the first picture that Trooper’s nails are very long and might be sore for him to walk.
My vet encouraged me to keep my Bassets’ claws/nails trimmed because it makes it more comfortable for them to walk and she told me to be careful not to cut into the pink quick or it will bleed so I trim little bits every now and again and I would think Trooper would let you trim his claws.
Continued loving companionship with Trooper. xx
Sophie, from what I understand when he came in to rescue they cut 1/2 an inch off of some of his nails. He was too fragile for them to do much with him. He also couldn’t walk because he was so weak. Since he’s getting stronger he’s walking better. I don’t think his nails are causing the issue altho they could use more trimming. He’ll be having many more vet visits very soon and he’ll be having surgeries. I’m sure they’ll cut them really short while they have him under. Thanks for your concern though!
[…] 1 basset hound has a new lease on life thanks to Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas and his foster home. Before you click, be warned that the initial pictures of this poor hound may be too awful for some people to view. For an update and hopeful picture of Trooper, please visit Basset Hound Town. […]
What happened to Trooper? Was he rescued from a home or was he abandoned? Sheez! They start as beautiful puppies that everybody wants but when the “owners” get tired of them just dumped them!
What a shame! Thanks Ann And may God almighty bless you for taking care of this little angel. 🙂
Trooper was adopted by Ann and her family. I thought I updated this post about that. Thanks for checking in with Trooper. We all love him in bassethoundtown……Thanks Hector
Cat, sorry I didn’t express myself correctly. I meant to ask what caused his condition? Was he taken from a abusive home or was he found as a stray dog?
Anyway, a reminder that dogs entail a responsibility on their owners, they are not just fluffy toys…They require time and patience.
They need to take baths, to eat, to take walks, and lots of attention…

Hey Hector this link will take you to the original posting about our Trooper. He was a stray. Also, if you notice on my blog there is a “Blog Search” box. If you key in the word Trooper all of his blog postings will come up. Wow, I am just amazed that his foster family brought him back to life. I am pretty sure that Ann is a nurse. What a blessing! Thanks Hector!
