Our Trooper has an update:)
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Trooper Hound Lovers! Wow, this is something to lift the mood and spirits!
This just in from Trooper’s Foster Mommy, Ann….
“Trooper is doing well after a few setbacks. He continues to get treatment for mange because it was quite extensive. Most of the swelling has gone down in his feet and he is actually walking much better now. He has gained some weight too – 45 lbs now! -but must be medically stable before he can get treated for Heartworms. His eyes have improved but we are still treating the infection. Much of the crusting and swelling has gone down and the cloudiness has subsided dramatically so that he can see better instead of only shadows – meaning that he doesn’t run into walls anymore! He is working on his house training and accidents have lessened dramatically since he can see better and uses the dog door. Yesterday, I saw him interact with one of our dogs with a wag and a nuzzle – for the first time! He has been so impaired and miserable before that he would only tell them to back off. He is getting up and joining the other dogs more often now instead of sleeping all day. A few days ago, I heard him actually join the others in some barking at a neighborhood cat. It was the first time I heard “real dog” barks from him since he came. I was surprised at how deep his voice is! I just watched in amazement from a distance – as he enjoyed himself so much!
He has become more and more of a love bug – and wants nothing more than to curl up next to me or Arnold – or follow us around the house. He has become a bellyrub-aholic too! I am afraid that there is no turning back now!
Trooper asked me to send you this picture of him giving all of his guardian angels a smile and a wag to tell you that he is feeling much better now and wants to thank you for all of your kindness and support!
P.S. He is well on his way to recovery – and his foster Mom thanks you for all of your support too!
Ann”
More bright future updates later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
it always good to see that first tentative turn when they start to feel better..and i do believe this is trooper’s! way to go you guys…everyone is doing such good work..makes me smile….
there will be some more minor setbacks i’m sure but many more positive one that will outweigh them!!!
Look at how his hair is coming in on his sides. I remember seeing pics of him and he didn’t have any hair on the side of his body. And his tail has some good fuzz happening! Oh trooper, we are so very proud of you. And your foster Mom too!!!
Trooper is getting better because of loving caring people like us!
Alright!!! I had tears in my eyes reading about you Trooper. To know those beautiful basset eyes are able to see and your beginning to play brought such joy to my heart:)
Thank You so much Ann for the TLC your giving Trooper. Your the guardian Angel in his life.
Thanks for the update and the photo
God Bless,
Wanda
This is just the news needed now. That hardly looks like the same dog! So glad to get the good news.
WONDERFUL !!!!!!!! He’s such a beautiful boy !!!
So glad to see Trooper feeling better!
Trooper really does look soooo much better. And his hair is starting to come back. Another 10 lbs and he’ll be getting close to his perfect weight. He is such a good boy, it’s sad he still needs heartworm treatment. Thank you Ann for all your work to help Trooper!
Mary,
Trooper will be fine going through treatments down here. Our Docs are probably the most experienced because HW’s are so bad in our area. I have faith that he’ll do just fine once he gains that weight and is stronger.
That is truly a beautiful picture! Thanks Ann for the updates and for the love and care you are giving to Trooper.
