Anyway…I digress.

Are you an artist? Do you love shoes? Could you use some extra cash? This challenge is for YOU!

Welcome to the Hush Puppies Shoe Design Challenge!

Our famous basset hound is sniffing out entries from now until April 18, 2010 for a winning shoe design to be part of our 2011 line. Your shoe illustration could be for women or men, high, low, laced, zipped, boot, shoe or sandal, whatever your mind dreams up. Impress us with your vision and design ability and if you make the cut, we’ll post our five finalists online for a public vote for the winner!

But that’s not all…

Since we like a good show, the final five will be featured at Runway on Monroe. This fashion event on May 15, 2010 in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan will showcase their illustrations for all to see. Attendees may vote via kibble or some other doggone method while the apparel contest finalists strut their designs on a runway wearing Hush Puppies shoes. Votes from this event will be combined with the online votes to determine the shoe design winner to be announced that evening. The winner will receive $1,000, a one-on-one design summit with a Wolverine World Wide designer(s) and free Hush Puppies for a year while we produce their winning design and sell it online at hushpuppies.com next year.

You wouldn’t mind an extra $1,000 and free shoes, would you? Do you think you can make the cut? Prove it! Now get designing and get your entry to us by the April 18th deadline and let us be the judge.

Let the challenge begin!

There is no fee to enter the contest. In lieu of a registration fee, please consider making a minimum $1.00 donation to the Michigan Basset Rescue organization. Donation information is available on their website.

Please read the contest rules and submit your design with entry form to:

hpdesignashoe@wwwinc.com

or via US Mail to:

Here is the link to actual site so you can go look at it. HUSH PUPPY!

It suggests that if you enter the contest you should make a donation to MI Basset Hound Rescue. I’m down with that. I will do that but if we win, the entire 1K will be donated to HOUSE OF PUDDLES!

Please feel free to send me some design suggestions. I will be sharing my drawings very soon. I am leaning towards a snazzy comfortable walking shoe. Maybe a tri color or a red and white! LOL!

More walking in comfort later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Got the date marked on my calendar for the fashion event. I live just over an hour from Grand Rapids, so hopefully I’ll be able to go and get some pics!!!

A walking shoe is a great idea! Whatever you decide it must be a comfortable shoe maybe a sandal. The shoe should have a Basset face somewhere, maybe on the back upper heel (counter).

I know you could design a winning shoe with all your talent and inspiration.

What fun Cat! I’m sure you’ll come up with something really cool. A comfortable shoe is a great choice. In today’s hustle and bustle life style, comfort rules!

You go girl! Howl kool. I agree with Maureen, a walking shoe to be worn while walking one’s basset. How about a picture of a long basset (Mayor Chaps) on the front of the shoe. You could do a tri color where the first half of Chaps would be on the left shoe, the rest on the right shoe, so that when you put your feet together, you have a whole hound. You could do a second version in red and white with Emma’s picture. I think this is the start of a whole new career for you, something you could sell at that shop your planning for. Then — on to QVC!!!

My mom was born in Rockford, Michigan (the home of Hush Puppy Shoes). Ever since I was a little kid, I remember our trips to Grand Rapids and the highlight was going through Rockford and seeing the supersized Basset Hound on the billboard welcoming us to the home of Hush Puppy shoes.

Unfortunately for me, I’ve never found Hush Puppy shoes all that comfortable. However, I did get married wearing a pair of Hush Puppies! My husband is only 2 inches taller than me, so I didn’t want to wear spike heels on my wedding day (or any day for that matter), but the choices for a white shoe in the “grown-up” department were not comfortable or pretty. So, (having small feet), I went to the children’s department and found the perfect pair of white patent leather mary janes in a girl’s size 5.5 made by Hush Puppy shoes! It was all quite perfect!
