Not for the faint, or woodland creature lovers…Colby Chaps goes hunting for wabbits!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wittle wabbit wovers….
Oh dear me what is a Grandma to do? Grandma as in me! I got this e-mail the other day.
“Hi Cat….thought I would share what your grand dog did. The other day I was out working in the yard and Jourdan was in the house. She came outside and said…..’What did you give Colby?’ Uh, Oh I didn’t like the sound of that. He had brought in a baby bunny. Then he was just sitting in the living room with a puffy cheek while the little creature was screaming……I don’t know who was screaming louder — me, Jourdan or the baby bunny. Colby turned into a ‘Tasmanian devil’ then and we could not get it away from him — yes, he ate it! GROSS! Anyways, never found the nest, however, Colby found it again later in the day and got another one. This time Mike tried to take it away from him and the same thing……he became a different dog and would not let anyone get it.
Well, bunny #3 was still in the nest, unharmed and………and……what to do. I don’t think the Mama is coming back after the nest was disturbed so bad, sooooooo I have been mama for the last 4 days.
It doesn’t even have its eyes open yet. I’m feeding it kitten formula. It is so cute.
Don’t you love that photo of Colby Chaps…….so innocent and i really don’t care that I just ate 2 bunnies look. I’ll keep you posted. Love you ~ Audra”
Colby Chaps, now you listen to Grandma. You leave those bunnies alone. Howl ever, I can’t blame you totally, who doesn’t like a good hasenpfeffer?
More telling on my Grand dog later….Love, Cat, Chaps, Emma, and Frankie the Fantastic!
Shhh… be berry berry qwuiet–I’m huntin’ wabbit. Just doing what comes naturally.
PS How was your time with Frankie today?
I hate when that happens! Gus has had a few. Breaks my heart but what can ya do. I hope the sole survivor survives!
YES ! Frankie update.
could be worse..could have been 11 groundhogs….in front of a full dog park……& trust me sometimes people with little foo foo dogs just don’t understand that whole “dogs were bred to kill & hunt” thing…
it is always humbling to have to walk out with your dogs & have the park open a path as you pass..kind of like “dead man passing”
sadly that won’t be happening anymore…i’ll kind of miss it….
Cat, you are too funny! Loved the video. Jethro is guilty too. We had baby rabbits underneath our shed in the back yard and I didn’t know it until Jethro caught Mama and skinned her back thigh. She died but he didn’t eat her. Don’t know why. Guess he wasn’t hungry. The babies must have been old enough to survive cuz I threw some lettuce and carrots underneath the shed and never saw the babies again.
I have been able to pry jaws open and retrieve stuff like that from mine so far. And once I raised a baby bunny that was abandoned in a school where my brother worked. Raised it to maturity so it can be done, but they are oh so delicate. And so very cute!
Sure am glad I don’t have any wabbit holes in my back yard lol.
