Frankie’s Big Smiley Adventure continues!

June 7th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Frankie’s Big Smiley Adventure Lovers……

Our Boy is doing GREAT after his neuter surgery. He also had some other maintenance done. He was up, wagging his tail with his E-collar on in no time. I could not go see him today which was a good thing. I didn’t want him getting to excited……..BECAUSE……….
WE HAVE A TRANSPORT SET UP FOR WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited I can barely stand it. Transports rarely happen during the week. Here is howl it all went down today.

I hung up the phone from the vet checking on Frankster. I wanted to see what time his neuter was and just doing my basic hovering maneuvers. As I hung up I heard, “ding” (e-mail alert)!

I would have to ask the woman, but she is a huge dog lover. She is bringing a dog from a shelter in Hardinsburg, KY (west KY) all the way to Alexandria, VA this Wednesday. I am meeting her in Alexandria on Wednesday night and overnighting the dog until her foster mom (in Trenton, NJ) can pick her up on Friday night. What part of NJ does she have to go to? Maybe her rescue/foster can meet up with my friend/foster on Friday night? And I can put you in touch with the driver from KY to see if she can help and where you’d have to meet her and what time. Not sure how close by Fort Thomas she is going. Seems like she is going straight east through West Virginia and Virginia, but hopefully something can be done?!!!

End of e-mail

Picture my face as I reply……

Erica ! YES! We needs to get Frank all the way to NJ. I am copying Suzanne Fitch of Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue so she can get in on this. I would love to have him in route by Wednesday.

Suzanne – can you analyze Erica’s message and see if you think this could work for Frank? He is getting his neuter surgery today and will be ready to hit the road by Wednesday.

Erica – you are so kind to think of Frank in his time of need.

I will be waiting for Suzanne comments on this. Suzanne please reply to all. Thanks!!!!

End of my e-mail back to Erica

Erica: I HOPE WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK!!! It’s such a phenomenal opportunity! I already emailed the KY driver to see if she might be able to help us. I can also overnight/temp foster him til we can figure out how to get him from my house in DE to wherever he needs to go in NJ. So don’t worry about that part of the transport. The important part is getting him from Fort Thomas to meet with the driver.

Cat: Yes, I totally agree with you Erica! I would love to know howl she is traveling. I looked at the map and it appears that she will be very close, if not going through Lexington. I live north of Lexington by about 2 hours. I would love to get Frankie on that transport and he is a really good boy. He is so excited to be off of that dang tree. You just cannot wipe the smile off this boy’s face!

Erica: LOL, that smile made me laugh! i LOVE hounds, and i would LOVE to meet him!!! i hope, i hope, i hope this works! So is frank in fort thomas or somewhere else? are you pretty open tomorrow (all day) and wednesday morning to meet up with her? should i put her in touch with you when i hear from her?

Cat: Yes, I am open all day tomorrow and all day Wednesday. I have to wait to hear from Suzanne because she is the receiving rescue. She should be checking in very soon. Frank is in Ft. Thomas about 2 minutes south of Cincinnati. Yes, please put her in touch with me and we can hopefully make this happen. Again, I have to defer to Suzanne. I hope, hope, hope as well we can make this work. THANK YOU!

Suzanne checks in!

THIS WOULD BE PERFECT!!!

Cat: OK – I am officially on call for operation Smiley Frankie. I guess our next step is to see what the woman in Hardinsburg KY is willing to do for us. I cannot tell everyone howl excited I am. You are right Suzanne! PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suzanne: Either I or the foster home could meet someone in the Trenton area. THIS WOULD BE PERFECT!!!

Thank you! Let me know details.

Erica: LOL, “operation Smiley Frankie”…lol. I have copied in Connie. She is the Kentucky driver. She just emailed me that she can help my girl Sweetie AND our basset boy Frankie. THANK YOU, CONNIE!

CAT AND CONNIE, please be in touch as far as a meeting time and place. Frankie, the basset, is in Fort Thomas, KY, 2 minutes south of Cincinatti, OH. Cat will get him to you, Connie. Just need a time and place. Connie is leaving first thing Wednesday morning, so I’m not sure if she’d prefer to have Frankie Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning?

So Frankie will officially be at his rescue come Friday night :-). I am getting an address to meet in Trenton on Friday night.

Do we know what he is eating so that a few days of it can be sent with him soas not to upset his belly? I feed my guys Purina One. I’d be happy to feed him some Weds-Fri. Just trying to avoid a potential tummy upset.

Cat: Connie – thank you so much for helping our Frankie! ((((((((Connie))))))))) Wow the ball is certainly rolling. Connie what time will you be leaving Hardinsburg, KY, Wed Morning? Can you e-mail me your route so I can see the best place to meet you.

Cat

Erica: Suzanne, the meeting place for Friday night will be at Jackee’s house, the foster (my great friend) for the other pup travelling

Cat: Hey Connie!
Can you give me a location you like off 1-64 east and I can MapQuest it. I am about 2 hours away from Louisville. I cannot thank you enough for this. I just spoke with Frankie’s doctor and his neuter went great and he is already awake and smiling again. His Doctor said he is fine to travel as early as tomorrow. I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited for Frankie!

Cat

Connie: I will be in the Louisville area around 8 Eastern time on Wed morning. I will need Frankie there (anyplace right outside Louisville off I-64 (east) would be good). Just let me know and I will get him and take his little fat butt east!! Thanks. Connie

Connie: How about at exit 2 (Zorn Ave) off I-71 at the gas station. I think it is either a BP or Chevron. When you get to the end of the exit ramp, I believe you will turn left and the station should be right there. As I am coming north and get to the bottom of the exit ramp, I turn left. We can meet there and that way you won’t have to go too far on I-64. Does that work for you? What are you driving? Eight o’clock is about when I will get there and I will get little Frankie on his way. So cool that he gets to come with us. Connie

Cat: This is perfect (the gas station)! I figured you knew the area better than us. I am driving a black honda element with basset hound pictures all over it. I think you might notice me! hehehehe

I will e-mail you back after my meeting with cell number etc.
Connie you are a Dog Send

THOSE ARE JUST SOME OF THE E-MAILS THAT WERE FLYING FOR HOURS TODAY!

Can you believe it? Frankie’s Big Smiley Adventure has been one wild ride. Can you imagine being tied to a tree for 2 years and then the flurry of activity that ensues when basset hound town residents come together? Just amazing……

Brings some tears to the ole eyes……

Neck scratches for life are right around the corner or down the 1-71 corridor! Ahhhhhhhhh, that feels good!

I have tears too. What a heartwarming story! I think you should enter it in the animal rescue site. And I’m especially emotional anyway because I pulled a small basset girl from a shelter near by and dropped her off at a vet in Houston where Basset Buddies will vet her then pick her up and look for a home for her.

Thank you so much to everyone involved! You guys are the GREATEST!

And Frankie’s smile will live on FOREVER!!

  9. June 7th, 2010 | 8:24 pm

Wow!!! This is so cool! If I could, I would smile as big as Frankie!! A true “rags to riches” story. Frankie had no idea what a wonderful thing it would be to be dumped at the pound. Thank you to everyone!
