Pick day of the summer! TODAY! YES!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Pick Day of the Summer Lovers! YES! All of the weather people were saying that today was not only the pick day of the week, but potentially the pick day of the summer. So, Grandma and I decided to travel about 2 hours away to Columbus, IN.
Unfortunately, the pick day of the summer was not the pick day of the summer for the kids. They had to stay home and they were not happy. I hate leaving them but we were going to take a bus tour of the city’s architecture and as per usual, no dogs allowed…..
We arrived right on time and our bus was waiting outside of the Visitor’s Center.
This quaint town of 40,000 has a few Dale Chihuly Sculptures!
And the PRIZE!
So, we took off and did our tour around the town. Most of the stuff was architecture that I am just not into. I call it 1950s modern. A lot of glass and brick. Egh….
But there was one jewel of a building and it was in the form of a church!
This steeple looked like it was piercing the perfect blue sky! So High! It sat right above this pipe organ sculpture! See the woman in the red shirt to the right? I was waiting for her to move but she proved very important to show the size of the organ!
The church is mostly made of concrete! It was really cool!
Then we did our own tour through the many green spaces that Columbus, IN has to offer on our way to lunch.
A beautiful covered bridge is right next to this lake. Another designer had this project and his goal was to make this lake perfectly round. It was completed to his desires. He said that there is nothing like floating on a perfectly round lake.
This covered bridge is right next to it.
Grandma and I wanted to have lunch at the Hotel Indigo because they allow dogs and we wanted to check it out! This is Maxum, the resident dog. We had lunch at the table right behind him in the lunch lounge.
Turns out this Hotel is is bit too pricey, but there other area dog friendly places in Columbus, IN.
We might go back. There are walking tours and gardens to visit. They say the Holiday season is spectacular!
Get this, the Basset Hound Nationals were held in this city back in 1998 or 99.
I hope you enjoyed our pick day of the Summer! We sure did. The kids, not so much…..
Tomorrow and the rest of the week will be their pick days. Mamma will be home all day! I heard a few walks are in store for the. They could care less about covered bridges and round lakes! LOL
More loving day trips later….Cat, Chaps and Emma
How beautiful! Grandma always looks so good in pics.
Well, it’s not a very good day here in Galveston Texas area but at least we escaped the brunt of the storm. We’re getting rain, may flood and are in a tornado warning. I think, or maybe it’s a watch. Whatever, they both scare me! So, if I hear a tornado I have plans!
I forgot to say that Grandma and I went to those Basset Hound Nationals!
I also forgot to say that I have to work the weekend because I took a day off. It was worth it! hehehe
I’m glad that you and Grandma took a today to just relax and enjoy yourselves. After the difficult times you’ve both been through – you deserve it. I know Chaps and Emma, despite their unhappiness about being left behind, would agree. Your pictures are, as always, beautiful.
What a lovely outing for you and Grandma! I LOVE Dale Chihuly:) Sorry the Mayor and Emma couldn’t go:( That’s what I love about Europe, animals are allowed pretty much everywhere– restaurants, bars, etc. Hooray for Hotel Indigo!

You’re right Cat, it would have been hard to understand the size of that pipe organ if the lady in red hadn’t been standing there! Impressive.
I love the yellow sculpture hanging from the ceiling! Beautiful. I don’t think I would want to sit beneath it however!
Cindy – I was wondering how you and the houndies were being impacted by Alex. I heard CNN talking yesterday about some tornadoes being spawned by the storm … I hope they all stayed away from your house.
Cat,
I always wanted to ask you: What is your profession?
This looks like a beautiful trip, I love gardens and especially dog-friendly places.
