Lily and Emma in the Lilies!

June 10th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Hounds in the Lilies Lovers!

I know I have posted most, if not all of this information in years past but I just had to mention it again. My day lilies are blooming and they are so pretty. Grandpa dug them up from my old home. Grandma actually named Lily because of the Day Lilies we love!

I took this picture of her in anticipation of using it for the Lily book, which I did!

Lily with lillies

So, here are some of the Lilies in our current back yard, right where Grandpa planted them. I just love the memories!

Here is our Emma today in front of those same Lilies that Lily was posing in front of!

Emma with lillies

Just stunning! I love stuff like this. Grandpa also bought that statue. He named her, OUR LADY OF THE BASSET HOUNDS! Howl cool is that?

More getting pleasure from perennials later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and just wondering what our Frankie is doing lovers…….

This morning I contacted Erica to check on Frank. Frank spent the night with her and her husband last night after the hand off from Connie. I did a mini interview with Erica to see howl our boy was doing…..

Erica responded…..

“Frankie is going to stay overnight on Friday with my friend in NJ (the
one fostering Sweetie, the other dog Connie transported). Then his
foster is picking him up Saturday morning at my friend’s house. So I
guess we give the books to the foster and tell him they are to go to
Suzanne?”

(Cat here, I sent a case of Lily books with Frankie so he could help some of the other hounds at Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue. I wanted him to make a good first impression and it is always good to come baring gifts. I told Erica I wanted to do a blog posting about her responses.)

“Ooooh, we can an official blog! I’m so excited! “

“Attached is a pic we took in the car. Not the best as it is a cell
phone pic, but you are welcome to use it (and crop my husband out if you
want..lol).”

(Cat here…why in the world would I crop out a cute hubby? Neva!)

Frankie with Erica's hubby

“We picked him up in VA at 7:45. Then we had a 2 hour drive back to our
home in central Delaware. He had some food and water, and played in our
backyard. He likes his toys. He climbed on the back of the couch and
was playing with toys inside too. Hard to keep a hound still! And I’m
not positive, but I’m pretty sure he was routing for the Philadelphia
Flyers…lol. He likes his travel buddy, Sweetie, though she’s not into
playing yet. Still too shy. But he met my senior pit Dolly and they
were good together too. No playing with her either. He does want to
play though, you can tell. I just don’t tend to put myself or my guys
through the stress of intros if they aren’t staying all that long. But
my husband played with his and he was having fun. He was mouthing
gently like he would play with another dog. It was kinda funny. He
fell asleep across the back floor of my car. How that is comfortable
with the hump in the middle, I have no clue, but he was enjoying
himself…lol. He is very observant. Whenever Frankie would see
anything, he’d go running toward it to see what it was. There was a
frog in our yard, but thankfully Frankie didn’t see him…lol.

He slept on a bunch of blankets in our half bath with window open for
some fresh air- would love him in the bed, but no room (my husband and I
and 6 dogs…lol) and no time for intros 🙁

He slept well. He was quiet at first and then he barked a little bit
cause he wanted to be with us, but within a few minutes, he quieted down
and had a nice night’s sleep.

And, yes, he did get half a pain pill. He didn’t seem like he needed
it…lol…but I gave it to him anyway.

Animal people are just incredible, how we all come together to make
things happen. It really is inspiring and amazing! Thank you so much.
That really means a lot. Thank YOU for all you do! I love the
houndies!! Erica.”

(Cat here….Erica was the gal that e-mailed me to see if Frankie needed a ride! I told her when I opened her e-mail I was so excited I cried! What luck!”

More Frankie pupdates later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

This just in from basset hound town resident – TROOPER!

June 10th, 2010 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Tropper Lovers! The boy that stole all of our hearts!

Trooper states,

“Saturday was a wonderful day! Basset Buddies had their first benefit auction – and they honored me and dogs like me who need a great deal of expensive medical care. I had so much fun! I met some new friends but I was especially happy that I got to visit with Michele and Randy Beauchamp who picked me up from the animal shelter and brought me to my Foster Mom and Dad. I feel so much better now than the first time that I met them – and that would not have been possible if they had not cared about me – so I gave them sweet kisses to thank them for taking me away from that terrible and scary place.

Michele and Niki Schroeder surprised me with a beautiful and soft quilt with my name in big red letters across the middle of it. I just had to try it out right away – and, oh MY, it felt REALLY good!

Trooperonbed

Then to top it off, my Foster Mom gave me the special flossie that Maureen sent for me. Remember Maureen?…the one to enjoy all by myself? Well, I did!…and once again, I can report that it was de-licious! Yum-aroooooo!!!! I wore my beautiful designer collar that Mama Cat Rudert sent to me – and it made me feel very handsome all day. My foster Mom says that it is my “Sunday-go-to-meet’in-collar” and so I wear it only when I go to special events.

I stayed on my new bed for most of the auction – except for the time when I went to give love to people to make sure that they were having a good time – and to thank them for coming to honor me and to help many other Basset Hounds who will come to Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas.

There was a really nice, genuine auctioneer there who could talk really fast. Most of the 85 items were sold and it brought in $2,329.50 that can be used for medical care for many Basset Hounds. Also, I received the First Annual Trooper Award – that will be given every year to a dog who has been very brave and beaten the odds to survive like I did. Hopefully I will be there to help give them the award for many years to come. I want people and other Basset Hounds to know that miracles are possible and that hope abounds at Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas.

Thank you again for all of your love, kindness, and support! I love arrooooooo!!!!

Your Trooper”

Wow, my jaw dropped when I saw that picture of Trooper! Can you even believe it? He looks like a basset hound now and not an armadillo! I swear he was so covered in mange he looked like a hard shelled armadillo to me.

Wow! Trooper! You are one handsome hound! Please wear your collar more! Every day is Sunday go to meetin’ day when you are as special as Trooper!

More meetin’ days later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Frank cannot thank you enough lovers. Here is the first bill for Frankie after I picked him up from the pound and took him to my vet.

Here is a jpeg of the full bill and then I will do a closer up jpeg.

Here is the closer up jpeg of his “well pet” check on that same day. It is probably easier to look at but I wanted to photograph the entire bill in the first picture.

Operation Smiley Frankie Complete to Louisville, KY:)

June 9th, 2010 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Frankie on his way lovers…….

Well, the transport to Louisville went without a hitch! I tucked in our boy about 9:00 last night. He whimpered himself to sleep about 20 minutes later and slept through the night. Not a sound!

This morning at 5:15 he was up and Adam, ate a small bit of kibble, went potty, was loaded in the Basset Hauling Vehicle at approximately 5:27 when we pulled out of the drive way.

Despite the blinding, sideways rain with thunder and lighting we made it to our meeting spot right on time!

IMG_7041

Frankie jumped out of the BHV, went potty…….

IMG_7044

took a brisk 10 minute walk and then I hooked him up to the BHV……

IMG_7046

And his ride drove up……

IMG_7049

He even had a traveling companion named Sweetie. She was pulled from a KY pound deep in Western KY by Connie the driver. Frank’s kennel is right next to hers!

IMG_7051

And off they went, within in minutes of pulling up….

IMG_7052

Have a great life Frankie! Keep in touch Frankie. We love you Frankie!

Just a quick update about our overnight guest!!!!

June 8th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Frankie Fan Lovers……

We are leaving Basset Hound Town tomorrow at about 5:30am for Frankie’s connection in Louisville. So, guess what? I had to bring him to my house. Oh dear me…….

So far it is not too bad. I have him in the basement, in an area that I have set up with a large kennel (Chaps’ traveling kennel) for sleeping and a play pen area for lounging around until bed time.

Grandma and I are going back and forth, taking turns spending time with him until beddy by time. We are doing laundry and playing toss out back. I think this is the first time he has ever run off leash. If not, it is one of the few times. Grandma said, “look, his eyes are as big as saucers!”

Frankie also got the famous french fry trip after leaving the vet! Himz really could get used to that!

He looks great and is on a bit of pain medicine for his neuter surgery.

Chaps seems to be OK with the whole thing so far. I think he can get through the next 11 hours just fine.

Oh, and I could kick my own rear end. My camera was not charged for the big off leash play time. I am charging it right now. Lotta good that does my dear readers right now.

Wow our Frankie can really go! He loves life so much.

More about our overnight guest later……with pictures! Love, Cat, Chaps, Emma and Eyes Big as Saucers Frankie! YES!

From slippers to walking shoes, Emma keeps me in check!

June 7th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and going on a walk lovers……

Well, I never announce to the kids that we are taking a walk until right before we go. If I do, it is total mayhem. We don’t have a set schedule for walking so the kids are somewhat surprised when we go walking.

When I go into the bathroom to get ready the kids always think the worst. I am going out without them.

IMG_6985

I was running back and forth answering Frankie e-mails while I was getting ready to take the kids out. I had to take my slippers off to get over the kids to slap on some lip gloss. I did not want to break my neck! I went to answer a Frankie e-mail and saw this when I got back. Oh Emmers!

Well, we went on our walk…..

IMG_6992

The only thing missing?….My dog hair slippers! LOL

Kids will do the darndest things!

More blue slipper memories later….Love, Cat, Chaps, Emma and Frankie on his way lovers!
