Lets spend a day with Lois at a Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue Event!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Resident Lois Lovers! Our very own resident Lois has been attending some really cool adoption events for Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue.
Lois states,
“Here are the pix from today’s adventure…made a lot of $$$ and the kids program went well…everyone ended up decked out in Dr. masks which was a big hit & we listened to our hearts as well with a donated stethoscope!
As you can see we get bike customers, walk ins, etc….
Pony rides, beautiful flowers, great acapella group from the high school today…
All in all a great time was had by all…
No dogs were adopted but I think Russell the baby goat was…he belongs to Bonita one of our volunteers..he was a week old & hung out at the booth for a bit too.
& for a $1 buster would sing for you OR you could hold russell..we are the flexible rescue if nothing else,
Lots of folks are coming back next week for more info!
End of Lois update!
Hey Lois, please leave some more information in the comment section for us. I am just so thrilled howl Mid-Atlantic has such great volunteers such as yourself. It just is so heart warming. I asked Lois if Frankie was there but he was not there this weekend. Also, please tell us about the book you read to the children.
More from Lois later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
thanks for posting about our events!!!
we have been attending the sergeantsville farmer’s market. this is a small market near flemington, nj (home of the lindbergh baby kidnapping trial). it’s a very rural area. each week there are some veggie vendors, plants & flowers, pony rides, fresh meats, pies & bread, a musical group & us (one week a greyhound rescue was there as well).
everyone is very friendly, the local community attends & supports as well as many out of town folks as well…there are long distance bikers who stop by too.
our booth is right on the street…so we garner much attention…i am fortunate to have a nice routine worked out with buster…he “sings” on command…so as people pass i ask them if they would like to hear my dog sing to them for a $1..(and if he fails to produce i will return their $1 + 1…a no lose situation for them)…so i sucker them in)…& buster will sing merrily thru the day. he has done ring tones for phones & wake up calls, birthday serenades, for older folks, kids, etc. he ALWAYS sings. i’ve never returned any $$$.
& he half closes his eyes and smiles…
today i did a kids program on animal care..we talked about approaching sick & injured animals (even your own) & read stephen huneck’s “sally goes to the vet” …where sally a black lab is running & playing, trips & gets injured. she goes to the vet & gets cared for. after wards i broke out rolled gauze, dr masks, a stethascope, & absorbent pads & we bandaged our stuffed animals & listened to our hearts. we all looked a bit goofy but hey big fun was had by all.
this market has been very good to our rescue…in 3 weeks..3 dogs (& russell the goat) have been adopted & a pretty decent amount of moola has been collected. the community is very supportive of us.
mid atlantic is a great rescue..i feel fortunate to be involved with it..i enjoy working the crowds at events…it is something i miss from my days with the national park service…so i try to come to as many events as i can. i feel it is what i can best do to serve the group…plus with buster’s unique ability to sing on command we can “assist” with many donations & have fun…which is important too.
you don’t have to be in a situation to donate $$ to help a rescue group..that is not the only way to help out…attend events, man a booth, foster, walk dogs, bathe dogs, or just lend morale support or help during a transport….there are so many ways to help out…that don’t involve alot of time or $$ if those things are issues. every little bit helps..believe me! it is so good for the bassets…& for your soul.
Lois – You just gave me cold chills! I love your update and all of your comments. You are the best and I love howl much you help basset hounds in need! I also have all of your pictures of your BHV, aka QE3! that will be a posting real soon! hehehe
Love you
Cat, Chaps and Emma
If I pay $1, can we get a recording of Buster singing here in BHT?
Good idea OneMom! I have a dollar for that too! Ha!
Thanks so much for your story of all the fun you had at this event Lois! You are so creative and fun. That attracts people and really helps rescue. You are 100% correct that you don’t need any money to help rescue. Manning booths and coming up with creative ways to generate money for rescue during an event is a great thing to do. I took Ozzie to an event, we put a hat on him with a band around the base of it and slipped a dollar in the band. Next thing we knew, everybody was adding dollars to his hat! We got $5 and $10 too! I had to start removing the money because we didn’t want to lose any but would always keep that one dollar in there which was a big hint to all the passers by. By the time we left several hours later Ozzie had made $50 for BBRTX! It was so much fun and Oz got pets and hugs along the way. I encourage everybody to go to a basset hound rescue event and just use your imagination and have fun with it!
Thanks so much for all you and Buster do for the hounds Lois!
ask & you shall receive!

ok…ante up!!!!!
buster doing his routine!!!!!
this was actually his audition tape for the mvoie that is coming out next month with will farrell & mark walhberg…they wanted a dog that spoke on command…he made it far into the audition process…which is kinda scary…but cool!
My dues are paid! I just love Buster. And you too Lois. I just donated $10 to Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue. I’m so thankful that they have taken in the last 2 BHT rescues. I hope Frankie finds a good home soon.
Thanks for all you do Lois!
Thank you, Cat! Lois is an incredible volunteer who never fails to amaze me how she can get people to donate thanks to the talented tomato stealer, Buster Brown. We have a good time and raise money for the hounds. Frankie was there last week, but the foster home was home tending to another foster of their’s, Boomer, who had just had surgery.
Thank you all for your donations!
Buster, a hound of many words! Very cool , he should have gotten the part!
Thanks Lois! I paid for the “show” over at Mid-Atlantic. Buster is a wonderful singer … he had some back-up singers here (Nell and Sophie joined in as soon as they heard him).
