Staycation!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Staycation Lovers! Who does not love a good Staycation? We had a lot of fun today. Julian is still over and we had planned to go to Coney Island amusement park today. Howl ever, the heat index was supposed to top 110 and we decided to change our plans and not suffer from dehydration. We opted for a film and ice cream instead. We went to one of our traditional favorites, the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal. We were blessed to see the OmniMax Film. Mysteries of the Great Lakes….

It was so cool in so many meanings of the word!

Oh, if you have an OmniMax Theater you must see this. I was weeping like a baby. I am kind of a weeper in movies anyway, but this one will uplift you beyond belief!

Then, we cooled off further with a rainbow sherbet cone! OH MY DOG, it was so good it gave me a brain freeze! No 110 heat index for us!

Then we did the museum and had fun, but no trip is fun without the GIFT SHOP! LOL!

So, we meandered through the high priced items and I asked Julian, “Why are there never any basset hounds carved out of the sparkly gold stone?” I love me some gold stone! Here is Julian standing next to the case of various animals carved out of various stones.

Kind of miffed I opened the drawer beneath the display….

What? I felt faint!

Could it be? YES! A basset houndish goldstone gem! I know, it might be questionable, but I grabbed it like it was a chunk of gold in a mining pan! It is about the size of half of your thumb.

The front view is a bit odd, but I can totally see it! I saw it so much Grandma bought it for me! hehehe

She also bought Julian a piece of AZ sandstone! Gotta love Grandmas! (no picture but it is totally pawsome)!

I also love cool days in the museum!

More Great Lakes, Goldstone Basset Houndish item and AZ sandstone later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Sounds a fun day, Cat!! And that stone dog is a basset–just look at those ears and even the carved wrinkles–the artist could have made the nose longer, but hey…. What a find! I have always found museum shops to be wonderlands:)

i love museum gift shops…& the dog is very cool.

I LOVE THE GREAT LAKES!! GORDON LIGHTFOOT…WHAT A GREAT TUNE…they are not like little small lakes that pull you in…nah…they are just awesome..boats ride dofferent on them t5han the oceans, you float different on them & everything..because they are fresh water…it’s a whole nudder attitude.

biggest dunes i ever saw were on lake michigan…sleeping bear dunes..mama bear waiting for her cubs to reach her as they fee from a fire in wisconsin..the old legend …the song “sit down you’re rocking the boat” none truer than in chicago at the eastland distaster when everyone ran to one side of the ship to wave goodbye at the dock & the boat overturned, & the “big fitz”..edmund fitzgerald…yeah lake erie did catch fire…

beautiful lighthouses, shipwrecks, the forerunner of the uscg..the us life saving service stations…so much to see and learn

(ya can’t tell i loved my time in michigan can ya???)

gotta find me an imax theater to see that film..i’m thinking i would enjoy it.

I think I would enjoy that film as well. I have never seen anything in IMax. The little stone basset is precious. Reminds me of a cross between a penguin and a basset! I am glad you had such a fun day! Love Gordon Lightfoot too!

I think I saw this movie a long time ago. I also remember doing a paper in school comparing the Great Lakes to the Oceans, and learning that the Great Lakes can be just as dangerous as the oceans in depth, and weather.

That goldstone should be made into a necklace or some type of charm. You should keep it with you as a good luck charm.

I love rainbow cones, they were a favorite of mine as a child. I love rainbow cones and green river soda.
