Tuna fish sandwiches and a tank of gas:)

August 7th, 2010 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and road trip lovers….

This morning we were blessed with an abnormally nice August day. We are a pack that can take advantage of a nice day on a moments notice and take advantage we did! Grandma whipped up the tuna fish sandwiches and I tanked up the basset hauling vehicle! We headed out to one of our favorite parks (AJ Jolly) which is out route 27 and becomes important later….

We wanted to check out the camp ground and found our almost perfect spot to dine!

IMG_8534

This is an actual campsite. You can see the next site over where the picnic table is. It is really cool. We loved it! I kept thinking that it would be so cool for a group of basset lovers and campers to spend a weekend here! I say almost perfect because I found the perfect camp site.

IMG_8539

See it right behind Grandma. It is PERFECT! The ideal setting. Wouldn’t it be cool to get a bunch of these small campsites and have a basset hound hootenanny? They are all cloistered pretty close and in this particular area one of the sparse bathrooms is pretty close. I felt like someone staking out our claim! hehehehe

Then we pressed on via route 27 South. Remember I said this would make a difference later? Well, we quickly discovered we were on the route of the longest yard sale in the world. It happens every year but neither of us have ever been on it. Here is a map I found on line.

WLY map 2001

Check out the very tip of Northern KY, that is where we live and where the longest yard sale in the world starts. It is about 10 minutes from my home. We were excited to travel for a few hours and do some shopping but the pickins’ were slim and the travel was slow!

IMG_8550

It is tobacco harvesting time in Kentucky and the air is thick with the smell. Nice to have this guy turn right!

IMG_8556

We were on the hunt to find a place to pull over and take a walk. Like a small city park. We just could not find one. Since we had the kids we really did not want to get out for a yard sale card table on the side of road selling plastic baby toys or rusted shovels. So we turned around to head home.

We may not have stumbled upon a yard sale find but we stumbled upon a real estate find! I was traveling the speed limit with a big black pick-up truck barreling on my butt as I glanced to the right and saw the for sale sign in the front of an aging Cynthiana, KY estate/farm. I let the too much in a hurry black pick-up truck pass me. As the truck roared passed I had to laugh at the larger than life decal on the back window complete with a gun rack. It said, “SPOILED ROTTEN”! Where do I get me one of those decals? hehehe

I turned around. I had to go back to the aging estate. The kids had to tinkle!

It looked like the perfect spot to stop and a place to walk the kids and get them some water.

IMG_8560

It was really run down with an old broken down 70s Mercedes parked in the side yard. It was kind of spooky. You could tell that in its day someone was very proud of it. The eves were broken and the roof looked like it would leak. We saw a huge crack in the outside molding. The paint around the windows was flaking off in sheets. The landscaping was trying to grow up into the windows. There was even an open window on the second floor. It was really sad.

IMG_8563

This next picture was taken from me just turning around. Look at that driveway. That is the BHV at the end.

IMG_8567

The driveway was gravel and the pillars at the entrance way were falling over.

This is your side yard.

IMG_8570

Interesting indeed! I felt sorry for the old place as we pulled out. I wondered about who loved it at one time. I wondered howl much it was listed for.

The kids slept the entire way home…..

More tuna fish sandwiches and a tank of gas later….Love, Cat, Grandma, Chaps and Emma

PS – BREAKING NEWS! I JUST GOOGLED THIS PLACE! HOWL CAN OUR EVALUATION BE SO OFF?

LISTING FOR OLD KY ESTATE

Make sure you look at all of the pictures. WHAT? The price floored us! My Mom and I thought it would be a tear down from looking at the outside. We guessed 150,00 for the place.

I had to crack up at our description and then the real estate person’s description. I love that I did not look at hers before I did this blog.

This place is definitely not a yard sale find! hehehehe

Look howl cute!

Photoshopping the Cover Girl!

August 6th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and PhotoShop Lovers:

We all know that beautiful cover girls get photoshopped all the time. It is such common practice that I thing some celebrities have their own photoshop technician! I know Lily did!

OMD! I was looking for a picture earlier today and ran across this one of Lily. This was the last photo shoot I did of her for the dust jacket and cover of the Lily Book.

100_0599

I wanted to get a great side picture of her to photoshop for the dust jacket/cover and photoshop I did! It had to be just right! I think the cover and dust jacket took months to complete. I hired a photoshop technician to bring my designs to life.

cover_forLJC

Looks like Lily went on a photoshop diet! As you can tell from the real picture, dear Lily loved her treats. Grandpa spoiled her like a queen. He would buy her and Chloe freezer fulls of hot dogs. He would then cut them into quarters and keep them in zip lock baggies in the freezer. He called them cold dogs. I begged Grandpa not to give them too many.

Every night at 6:00 both girls would go up to Grandma and Grandpas landing and wait for their after dinner treat. Oh, this brings back such good memories.

IMG_8495

Grandpa would microwave a few hunks for them. They would not come into their place because Grandma and Grandpa were on the couch reading the paper right there by the door. Grandma trained them to sit on the towel and wait for a few minutes until Grandpa microwaved them.

IMG_8497

They were both able to make it up to the landing until the very end. It was one of their truest pleasures in life. Hot cold dogs from Grandpa!

IMG_8501

There is absoultely no way on Dog’s green earth that Chaps or Emma would ever sit at the door. Not gonna happen! We never continued the tradition because our Emma is allergic to protein. No hot cold dogs for her…….

More hot cold dog memories later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

What are you doing for lunch or dinner?

August 6th, 2010 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and eating out lovers. This post has nothing to do with bassets except for the french fries at the end!

I just wanted to share this e-mail I just received from O’Charley’s.

full

It seemed like a pretty good deal, plus since I am on their e-mail list they sent me a coupon for 5 bucks. Here it is if you want one. It’s a jpeg so you can copy and past or drag to your desk top and print.

1712OCH_15AUG10_coupon

We get up to 20 dollars by ordering some extra french fries for the kids or an appetizer. Also, my Mom and I always have enough for another meal. I just thought I would share. When I worked at GE we always went out on Friday for lunch.

Now, I got myself hungry. I think the kids need some french fries!

More deals later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

We had a ruff ride last night and it all started with heat lightning…

August 5th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and heat lighnting lovers….

I love heat lightning. You can tell that a good storm is coming. It looks so pretty and there is no sound.

heatlighting

I have not been able to enjoy a good storm since, well, decades. I have always had a storm phobic hound, as most of you know.

The heat lightning was my cue to give Chaps his storm pill. It takes about an hours to kick in. So, I had him all tucked in and the TV turned up loud. I could hear him snoring, that was until, the heavens opened up and the bombs started dropping. Why is it always after midnight? So, the Mayor and I were up from midnight until 3:30am.

He looks like I felt today…..

IMG_8484

This was taken this morning after his 7:30am breakfast. He went back to bed and I wished I could have!

IMG_8488

Actually, in this picture, I thought his ears looked more gray than the day before. Poor boy….

Emma, slept like a baby…

More gray ears later….Cat, Chaps and Emma
