Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Slog Lovers….

A Slog is my spiral ring notebook log about getting my new puppy, aka Emma!

IMG_8212

This second slog entry is about a question I sent to BoBac Bassets about potentially buying 2 puppies from Emma’s litter. I am a 2 hound person and I was just thinking that it could be cool to raise 2 puppies from the same litter together. My Mom and I were going to be driving all the way to TX and we were kicking around the idea. So, I shot off Richard an e-mail with my question. I don’t have that e-mail but I do have Richard’s response. You can click on the image for more detail.

So, I forgot that idea! No problem. I was going to have 2 hounds in my life but I was in no hurry to figure it out. I was concentrating on the pup. You can see by the date of the e-mail, Emma was to arrive into this world in exactly 30 days.

So a few days went by and I received a phone call from Sharon. We chatted about Dawn, Emma’s Mommy for a bit and then she told me that she was looking to place Chaps into a new home and would I be interested in him? I was kind of in shock because I had told Sharon that the only requirement I had for a puppy or hound living with us, was that it be a girl. Grandma and I did not want a boy. Boys have cooties! hehehe.

Really, we did not want a boy. I reminded her of that and she said she forgot but she would hold on to Chaps until I thought about it.

Think about it? I was pretty adamant when we talked in the beginning. So we hung up and I jumped on their website. I remembered his name. He is still on their home page. Here is a screen capture I just did…..

That is our Mayor on the bottom right….

I don’t know what happened the night I looked at this. It was love at first sight and I burst out crying. I felt so sorry for him but I had no idea why. He just looked so proud and I know he had worked so hard for the breeder. Here he was showcased on the home page and still is and now they were willing to give him up. It just broke my heart.

So I called Grandma and Grandpa and asked them to come down for a glass of wine to discuss the potential new family member…

When I explained the situation Grandma said, “but Chaps is a boy??????” Then, Grandpa said, “What’s wrong with a boy?” Right then and there I saw that look in Grandpa’s eyes and I said, “He is now our boy!” He was promptly named Chaps Wayne after my Dad. I called Sharon right back and told her we wanted him! I told her we would love a few pictures so we could moon over him and a few days later I got these. I cannot tell you howl many times I kissed that chop on this picture!

This picture did us in!

I printed them out and carried them with me everywhere like a proud Mommy!

We were now the family of a bouncing baby boy hound! We were so excited! Grandpa was beyond excited. One of my favorite memories is Grandpa taking Chaps out for a walk the next morning after we got home. I heard him telling him, “Come on boy, let’s get away from all of these women for a bit!” And off they went……

It’s funny howl one Slog entry can take the mind so far. Aren’t you glad you asked Kerry? OneMom asked the question about getting Chaps after viewing the picture of me with all of the puppies! LOL

More Slog memories later…..Love, Cat, Chaps Wayne, and Emma!

Wow, I had a senior moment today and it involved our Emmers!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not loving senior moment lovers…..

This morning as I was feeding the kids I noticed that I was emergently low on Emmers special allergy food. I buy her food at her vet office so I had to remember to call and make sure they had some for me. If they didn’t have any in stock I can go to a few other vets to find it but most importantly I have to remember to call around. So, I grab a pen and make a note.

IMG_8469

(humm…..someone needs a little moisturizer, maybe Oil of Old Age…..)

So, I got the kids fed and all the other morning stuff and go back to my office. OK, Emma’s food. I better make a phone call but before I do that I better go down to the basement to see if I have an extra bag. All of this is going through my head as I am looking out the window just in time to see a squirrel walking across the back fence with one of our tomatoes in his mouth. OK, dousing the tomatoes with our hot pepper sauce takes top priority. I will douse the tomato plant and then check for Emma’s food.

OK – Tomato plant is now red with hot sauce – Check

There is not an extra back of food for Emma – Check

Back upstairs and the kids go wild thinking they should get a treat. So, I am thinking what was I doing? What do I need to do next? All of this is going through my head as I am giving Emma her treat….

I had to laugh. FOOD! Call vet. Check!

More laughing at myself later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
