Mt. Airy Forest, 4 paws up – Cincinnati Park extraordinaire for hounds and humans!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and City Park Lovers….
I am just amazed at howl many parks are in our immediate area to explore. I am a huge fan of parks and I love learning all about them. I watched a show last night about the parks of Cincinnati, not to be confused with the parks of Hamilton County where Cincinnati is located. I was shocked at the parks that I had never even heard of and the ones I had heard of that I have never even visited! The one that caught my eye off the bat was Mt. Airy Forest. So, I called Grandma and told her to gear up and we would go to
Mt. Airy forest today!
No morning nap for the kids, there was fun to be had!
I bet this kid does not get an early morning nap!
His name is Diesel. He is a Belgium Malinois. He was training with his partner. It was really cool the Officer was speaking German to his partner!
We spent about 20 minutes talking to the Officer about his first canine partner. Come to find out his family does blood hound rescue. What a wonderful interaction. Chaps got all big bad boy dog inside the car, crying and carrying on, so Officer Scott had to put Diesel in to the squad car. It was pretty funny! Officer Scott had the best time petting the kids!
It was so cool! Then we found our picnic spot!
Chaps was on the look out for Officer Diesel!
Mt. Airy is an old growth forest right in Cincinnati. It is over 1400 acres huge. Just stunning. Dogs are welcome and the park is also famous for a large dog park. We did not go because Chaps is not into that. Grandma said that would be like fitting a square peg into a round hole! (Chaps is the square peg!) hehehe
So we took off on our walk and I warned Grandma, “Emma maybe a bit scared because she has never been here before.” No sooner than the words were out of my mouth Emma moved to the front of our group and lead the way. It was so incredible. It was like she heard me.
“Look at me Mommy, I am NOT scared!”
One of the main reasons I was excited about visiting Mt. Airy Park was for this tree house that was erected recently.
What a special place. The entire project was built to be wheelchair accessible for disabled children.
As you can see the pathway is huge and wide!
It was a perfect day. About 70 degrees. We were the only ones in the tree house for a time. It was just magical! Then we met a 4 year old little girl named Emma! hehehe – more magic!
The kids loved it.
This tree house was totally 4 paws up!
We walked, and walked! We are trying to build all of our stamina up for our trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway! The kids did great.
Howl ever….They were sure ready to get back to the Basset Hauling Vehicle!

what fun! it was a gorgeous day for an adventure here too…i took the horde for a hike in our park as well…something we haven’t been able to do since april when buster hurt his back…
buster & cooper used to love to go on hikes…so this was one of the first few longer walks for them since that time..(maybe only 1/2-3/4 mile) but it was fun…i could tell buster LOVED being able to do it again. lowla is not much for hiking but she trudges along & sally well…she will go where ever the other 2 go.
working dogs are trained in german so that they do not get set off by accident by someone..since most offenders don’t normally speak german here in the us. this is for the officers safety as well as the public’s and the offenders…(dog’s also)..you want to make sure when your life and others lives depend on something that it is as foolproof as possible.
chaps might also have reacted to the canine because chances are it was still intact.
anyway…that looks like a cool tree house…
you will have plenty of cool things to explore along the parkway..good to begin “training” now…
if for no other reason than so the kids can begin practicing their “yes i am the mayor & this is emma & she is also a star” routine!
I loved the bench inside the tree house! It looked like it was made out of a big gnarled tree trunk. How beautiful! And I love that it is wheelchair accessible for everyone. The mayor and his side kick looked beautiful as ever!

It is such a cool park and there lots more to explore. Today we are working on our blue ridge parkway route!

Howl cool! And beatiful too. Chaps and Emma are so lucky that they get to go on such fun excersions. And I’m so glad that Grandma can come along and have fun also.
Looks and sounds beautiful, but Cat I think you, your mom and the kids have a lot of wanderlust in you. You like to explore new places.
