I just cannot keep up with the nails….

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and long nail haters! I just cannot keep up with the basset hound nails/claws that grow like weeds and are as thick as granite. I try, try, try to keep them clipped and drag the hounds in for maintenance. I am not physically strong enough to clip marble.

I had to laugh because Chaps totally snuck up on me today. He had his nails clipped way back during his teeth cleaning. So did Emmers. They are like Ghost hounds!

I was in the kitchen and turned around and was a bit, WHAT? Did you sneak up on Mommy? Of course he got a french fry! hehehe

I love a silent nail hound! I swear I am going to go in more often for the dreaded clipping.

More loving sneaky hounds later! Cat, Chaps and Emma

We have to go in for our nail clipping this week. I tried clipping Jethro’s once and all my clipper did was bend the nail. Then I felt so bad. You have to have extra heavy duty clippers and they have to be very sharp. And yes, you have to be strong. I’m lucky that I have a groomer who I have been using for 20 years and she only charges me $5 a dog. Unfortunately, since Rugs and Oz were rescues and their nails weren’t kept up their quicks have grown out so they cannot be cut short enough to be silent.

I clip Slinky’s nails and it is always a struggle. Slinky squirms so much, sometimes I can only get two nails done at a time.

Next week I am bringing Slinky to the vet, I will have them cut her nails there.

Bumper and Abby had their yearly vet checkup on Saturday and we had their nails cut. He could barely cut Bumpers because they were so hard and big. Our vet even commented that bassets have the worse nails to cut ever. We have to have Dr. Barry do this because Bumper will not let anyone touch is piggys – all he did all day Saturday when we got home was lick his feet – weird?

Judy – Chaps has been licking his paws and so has Emma. I just think it feels weird to them. I know that my vet probably cut further than he usually does but he said he did not get any blood. So, I don’t think that the licking is weird at all!

When my parents’ basset’s nails get long her name changes from Tootsie to Clickity Clacks!
