I performed a social experiment today;)
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and social experiment lovers. I was sure one of those today!
OK, today on our list of things to do was go to the library and pick out some books on tape for our trip. This is an arduous task indeed.
Prior to heading to the books on tape section we headed over to the Children’s book area. I went over and pulled the Lily book from the shelf and placed it in the area where a kid can pick it up. Of course I forgot my camera. Obviously, this social experiment was not very well thought through!!!
Anyway……..Grandma and I headed to the books on tape. I never took my eyes off the Lily book for long. It took about 3 minutes. A Mom and her kid came in. She went right to the Lily Book. Looked at it and handed it to her daughter. The little girl smiled and nodded. I cannot tell you the howl good I felt.
I took the experiment further… I went over to them so I could ease drop……
The little girl was sitting on the floor flipping through the Lily Book. The Mom said, “Honey, don’t read it now. Let’s save it for tonight.”
hehehe
Grandma and I picked out a collection of THE SHADOW old time mystery radio show episodes!
One of the most popular radio shows in history debuted in August 1930 when “The Shadow” went on the air.
“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” The opening lines of the “Detective Story” program captivated listeners and are instantly recognizable even today. Originally the narrator of the series of macabre tales, the eerie voice known as The Shadow became so popular to listeners that “Detective Story” was soon renamed “The Shadow,” and the narrator became the star of the old-time mystery radio series, which ran until 1954″
Won’t that be fun?
I sure hope that little girl has as much fun with her Mommy reading the Lily book!
More loving social experiments later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma
I love a good murder mystery. Nothing gory just a good whodunit. I love so many of the British murder mysteries on public television and the BBC. Maybe when we get together we could have a murder mystery sleepover or party of some sort. You know the one that guesses the right guess wins some sort of prize. The prize could be given out by Chaps and Emma.
I’ve GOT to take the Lily book to our library down town. I’ve got it in my spare bedroom so it’s out of sight, out of mind. That’s so cool that you got to witness that little girl all excited about reading the book. I haven’t been to a library in about 20 years. I didn’t even know they had books on tape! I don’t care to read so that’s probably why. Give me some CD’s of old rock and roll and I can roll on down the highway!
Cat, by the way, I actually bought the Lily book from the rescue for $20. Now I’m going to donate it to the library. I figure that’s getting 2 donations out of one book! Pretty good huh? Thank you sooooo very much!!!
Maureen – I totally agree! That would be so much fun!
Cindy – Our Library actually has tons of CDs to rent as well. Thank you so much for donating a Lily book. That is so cool. I really appreciate it!
Maybe Chaps could do a radio mystery show … “The Mayor knows”!
Love the Shadow series. What a great thing to listen to while rolling down the highway!
