There is an outdoor kennel at the Biltmore…
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and kennel question lovers. There is a 6 bank kennel to park your hounds if you want to. I did not take a picture because I am a fool. I forgot. We went down and looked at it.
The set up is all outside. There are self locks and keys. There were about 4 dogs staying there. I was not comfortable leaving Chaps and Emma as you can imagine. It is very primitive. I was very mad. Howl can an estate such as the Biltmore leave dogs to languish like this? I complained to anyone that would listen.
It is a pound type set up with a pad lock. Most of the pad locks did not work. Again, it was very sub par. So, do not bank on this.
Thank Dog the weather was good for us and we could leave Chaps and Emma in the car. It was about 60 degrees and we parked in the shade. The mountain breeze was blowing. Here is where they stayed.
We considered the kennel until we saw it. What really makes me mad is that this is the Biltmore!
They loved dogs in their day!
Picture 6 pens stuck down behind a parking lot. Very sad! GIVE ME A BREAK!
I give the Biltmore an F for this effort!
More grading later…Cat, Chaps and Emma
You left a back seat in there! I’m eyeing how much room you have. I think a 2010 Honda Element will fit 4 dogs just fine if both back seats are out of the way.
Way too sad about the kennel. Some people have different views than we do on how our hounds should be treated.
By the way, too cool that you saw another rescue group!
When you said kennel at the Biltmore, I pictured miniture mansion fronts and plush interior doggie beds with ornate access doors for them to go outside.(Pristine concrete runs)How sad it was not that way!
Cindy, 4 hounds would fit back there without any back seats. It would be comfy. I kept one in for Julian. He is the only one that rides in my car besides Grandma, for the most part.

I am shocked about this as well. I thought they would have a state-of-the art kennel.
I have rarely had to kennel Slinky, but when I have, I always inspect the facility, and if anyone tells me that I can’t see the kennel I am out of there!
write the biltmore…& let them know about the locks & the facilities…could be it is a concession or just rarely used & they might be unaware of it’s condition….maybe suggest that they partner with a local group to work with upkeep or charge a few $$ & have that go towards that…
my feeling is they probably are not aware of the condition & will say they are offering it as a courtesy to their guests on a use as you wish thing…but maybe if they were aware of the poor condition they would then rehab it.
probably not staffed or maintained due to not heavy usage…just a guess tho..still no excuse…you are right. i wouldn’t leave my guys there.
that is why i tend to travel in the spring or fall when it is cooler..the QE 3 has 12 windows or some bizarre number like that & i can leave water & blankets easily for them so i feel comfortable leaving the houndage in there (if i feel good sleeping in it they should & do)..my only problem is that i sometimes return to new bumper stickers on it…
