Chaps son, Colby Chaps goes belly up for his Dad’s birthday!

October 19th, 2010 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Hellow Fellow Basset Hound Town and Belly Up Lovers……

Can you believe this cute Birthday Card that Big Daddy got from his son bun?

IMG_1766

This just made the Mayor’s birthday so much fun! Grandma and I got the biggest laugh. We cannot believe howl much Colby Chaps looks like our big birthday boy!

Ahhhhhhh……….life is good!

More belly rubs later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Chaps 10th birthday continued…

October 18th, 2010 - 11:11 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and stretching out the Mayor’s birthday lovers…Who is not one of those?

This is the Mayor eating his special birthday breakfast in Lexington, VA before we heading out for the Blue Ridge Parkway. Shimlette is enjoying the same breakfast, the normal kibble with hot potato chip mush mixed in. Yum!

IMG_9767

We could not wait to get started on our Big Birthday Blue Ridge Adventure!

The kids are doing so great. They love the comfy setup in the back of the BHV, (basset hauling vehicle). The Blue Ridge Parkway is only 5 miles from the hotel. The entrance is called Buena Visa. It took about 8 minutes for us to get this photo op!

IMG_9772

There is just no way one can capture the enormity….but we try!

This is about 20 minutes later…..

IMG_9791

You can probably tell why we kept the kids in the car!

IMG_9782

The kids got out at this rest stop. After we loaded them back in the BHV we went in the gift shop and bought a lovely chunk of butter pecan fudge. OMD! My mouth just watered typing that. It was so good.

Next stop on the way to Roanoke was the Peaks of Otter Lodge. We would have stayed there but the Blue Ridge Parkway lodges are not dog friendly. This place is stunning and it is such a shame that our best friends are not allowed. We decided to keep them in the BHV while we snapped a few shots. When we take them out of the BHV it adds about an hour to the stop;)

“That is the happiest dog I have ever seen!”

October 17th, 2010 - 12:12 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and “That is the happiest dog I have ever seen” lovers….

A gentleman walking past Chaps and I today told me that.

Can you imagine howl I smiled? Chaps was prancing like a dandy down the VMI parade ground as we headed towards Washington and Lee University which is in prancing distance.

Yesterday we saw this!

IMG_9710

As we all know, the Mayor loves to march!

Check himz out at Washington and Lee University!

He rolls……….

IMG_9755

And rolls…….

IMG_9756

And, roll, roll, roll…..

IMG_9759

Not bad for a 10 year old! Kicking both back feet like a 10 month old! Happy Birthday Mayor!

IMG_9760

Residents, you should have seen himz today. Prancing from VMI to Washington and Lee like a young pup. I am just so happy! Himz moved like a young pup!

Someone told me that petting himz made their weekend!

Can you believe that our Mayor is 10 years old? I love himz x 10 bazillion.

Happy Birthday Chaps, the happiest hound I have ever seen!

Sweet, Sweet Pink Greenbrier:)

October 16th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and OMD the Greenbrier is just like heaven lovers. I just love, love, love it. Just magical. The cool thing is that it is one hour away from VMI. I was so excited to take the hounds. The Greenbrier has a pet policy but I found the resort to be very welcoming of my hounds for the several hours we were on site walking around.
Here is their policy.

PET POLICY

IMG_9617

First off Grandma and I pulled up to the front door.

IMG_9622

We each took a separate, self guided tour while the other one stayed with the hounds. OMD! Jaw dropping beauty is all I can say of the restored resort redone in the original vision of Dorothy Draper.

Sweet Pink and Green rooms make you want to eat them with a spoon.

IMG_9628

Oh howl I long for a pink room…..

IMG_9626

But a dog friendly pink pathway outside of the resort will do just fine.

Step to the left….

IMG_9652

Step to the right….

IMG_9653

My Darlings….

Pink trees whisper amongst the perfect green grass………

IMG_9638

Pink dreams underneath green canopy angels and earth hound angels…………

IMG_9633

The trees glow pink at the Greenbrier at any given moment in time….

Off weeeeeeeeee go!

October 14th, 2010 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and weeeeeeeeeeee lovers! I cannot believe that today is the day of our trip. We have been planning this adventure for about 7 months. The timing worked out great because I was able to have a friend of mine come and stay at my home. He is doing some much needed maintenance around the homestead. His wife is looking for a job in the area so it is going to be a win win for all of us.

We loaded up early and off weeeeeeeeeeee went like a herd of turtles!

IMG_9603

Charleston, WVA here we come!

IMG_9605

We packed a lunch and a dinner. The kids did so good. They were so comfy in their beds. Chaps had his worry bed and I bought Emma one to match.

Emma had a bit of a ruff time when Grandma left and went to her room next door.

As you can see I am watching Project Runway…Love it!

IMG_9609

She finally gave in and explored the room.

IMG_9610

I cannot tell the residents howl absolutely incredible Emma is doing with all of these new places. She is such an inspiration.

Of course her security blanket did not hurt! LOL

IMG_9614

OMD! I am so excited about the 30 item free breakfast tomorrow!

More dreaming of waffles later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

The kids are ready and raring to go!

October 13th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and ready and raring to go lovers! Well, I know 2 kids that fit that bill! Since I do a fair amount of rescue transports I know howl important paperwork is. If you travel with hounds make sure you have everything in order.

IMG_9594

I have the kids health records that show their vaccines and their home again records. You should always, always travel with a picture of your hounds in the case of the worst case scenario. Make sure you write the number of your vet right on the paper work.

IMG_9596

If you have home again yellow tags make sure you can see the numbers. My kids have them but they were worn out. I ordered 2 more, 8 bucks a piece. It takes about 2 weeks to get them so do it early. I also had my vet scan each kid to make sure the numbers matched.

Some hotels require a rabies certificate. Also, if you get pulled over you want all of your paper work in order.

I call it belt and suspenders…

You can never be too safe.

More safe travels with your hounds later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I performed a social experiment today;)

October 12th, 2010 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and social experiment lovers. I was sure one of those today!

OK, today on our list of things to do was go to the library and pick out some books on tape for our trip. This is an arduous task indeed.

Prior to heading to the books on tape section we headed over to the Children’s book area. I went over and pulled the Lily book from the shelf and placed it in the area where a kid can pick it up. Of course I forgot my camera. Obviously, this social experiment was not very well thought through!!!

Anyway……..Grandma and I headed to the books on tape. I never took my eyes off the Lily book for long. It took about 3 minutes. A Mom and her kid came in. She went right to the Lily Book. Looked at it and handed it to her daughter. The little girl smiled and nodded. I cannot tell you the howl good I felt.

IMG_1336

I took the experiment further… I went over to them so I could ease drop……

The little girl was sitting on the floor flipping through the Lily Book. The Mom said, “Honey, don’t read it now. Let’s save it for tonight.”

hehehe

Grandma and I picked out a collection of THE SHADOW old time mystery radio show episodes!

One of the most popular radio shows in history debuted in August 1930 when “The Shadow” went on the air.

“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” The opening lines of the “Detective Story” program captivated listeners and are instantly recognizable even today. Originally the narrator of the series of macabre tales, the eerie voice known as The Shadow became so popular to listeners that “Detective Story” was soon renamed “The Shadow,” and the narrator became the star of the old-time mystery radio series, which ran until 1954″

shadow

Won’t that be fun?

I sure hope that little girl has as much fun with her Mommy reading the Lily book!

More loving social experiments later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

Wow, howl time flies……

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and remembering those we love lovers…..

Wow, I was looking at the calendar today and saw that it has been 7 years since our beloved Chloe went to the rainbow bridge. OMD she was such a wonderful hound. Poor thing came from a puppy mill. I called her the Doggie Rama and she was one of the best teachers I have ever had regarding puppy mills. I think about her everyday!

dedication Chlo

She was my original blanket hound. Grandma called her our Florida hound because Grandma knew she would love the heat.

100_0608

What joy she brought to our home.

100_0271

She would come down the hallway every day at 4:00pm and tell me it was dinner time. Look at those grey eyebrows. Too cute!

Boy oh boy she really gave the mail person heck…..

I miss you Rama Dog Young Drama Hound.

More good memories later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

The Vanishing Visitor at the HOP!

October 11th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and enjoying a good Tube lovers…..

Marilyn writes,

“A little neighbor dog likes to visit HoPville now and then. He stays just long enough to stir up trouble, then vanishes into the woods again.

This is a little dog that lives on the next property that comes to visit. He always races up and down the fence and wants to get the Hoppers all excited, then goes to poop in the front yard and disappears into the woods again. This is on his way home.”
Look at all the elders. What a wonderful group of hounds.
More loving and respecting the HopPers later….Cat, Chaps and Emma
