Ghost Hounds……
Howllo fellow basset hound and ghost hound lovers…..I love the day or two after a toe nail trim. The hounds pad around so silently…just like ghost hounds! It only lasts for a few days and then it is back to click, click, click. I love ghost hound days for some reason. It cracks me up when they sneak up on me;)
I took the kids to the vet yesterday to get the usual done….
Toe nail trim
Ears cleaned
Rear end maintenance
Plus Chaps was having some problems with conjunctivitis. Poor boy.
I also got both kids weighed.
Chaps weights 65.5 pounds. That is 5 pounds below his show dog weight! He sure doesn’t look skinny. He looks really good.
Emma weighs 50 pounds. Now that seems too skinny. But my vet said no. Then I found this picture of Emma from back in 2006.
She looks huge! What a difference 4 years makes.
Move loving my slender ghost hounds later…Cat, Chaps and Emma
The older they get it seems they do get thinner. Emma is thin for a reason and I’m so glad that your vet verified that she was ok. I think Emma is too big in the picture above. 50 pounds may be kind of thin but it’s in Emma’s best interest. Harriet is a smaller hounds and she’s 45 pounds. She doesn’t look thin but she doesn’t look too fat either. Hopefully all my hounds are a good weight. Ozzie seems to be the hard one to keep down. He’s just so thick!
By the way, Chaps and Jethro must be the exact same size. He always weighs between 65 and 68 and he’s always on a low calorie diet.
My vet told me that 50 lbs was way to much for Slinky, so she is now 40 lbs. and that is perfect according to the vet.
By the way Cat, I object to the word “huge”! I think the word robust or solid is much more appropriate.
By the way Cat, how did you ever come up with the name “Shimlet”? Is this a foreign word?
Maureen – you are right. I also like the word Rubenesque.
Shimlet is a word that I made up for Emma.
Emma rhymes with Shimma
Shimma turned into Shimmy Emmy
Then I would shorten it as Shim
Then I added lette to Shim
Shimlette!
Grandma loves her Shimmy when she walks and it is just so fitting for our girl.
Oh Shimlette!
I call Chaps, Burger Boy. I gave him that nick name the first day I had him. He was so big, red and juicy.
I told Grandma that and she laughed for hours on the way home.
We have big boy hamburgers in this neck of the woods so that kind of fit in as well. He was our Big Burger Boy. Also, Burger King!
Nick Names are so funny.
Thanks for asking Maureen….
Cat,
Doesn’t Chaps have quite a precious patty!!!!!
Maureen – The picture is of Emma. Grandma and I don’t consider Chaps as having a patty for obvious reasons! hehehe
He is so cute when we do our patty routine with Emma. He rolls over and we make over him like crazy. The kind of funny thing is that he chokes when he is on his back. Like drool goes down the wrong pipe. He is so funny….
I try not to let him choke but he needs his belly rubbed!
I will hold his head up a bit and that seems to help!
I also call her Emsurez. I know, I am too funny. That little girl make my day every day! Oh, and every night. I crack up if I wake up during the night and she is all glued up on me. She is seriously cold blooded. Sometimes I wake up and she is laying right on top of me. Other nights she will ram rod me with her head trying to wake me up to cover her up. She is so cute.
The life and time of Shimlette!
hehehe
Cat
Harriet is my little heater. I call her “Harriet the Heater”. When she lays down and curls up the heat just radiates from her. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that she birthed so many pups? And I swear that when she sleeps her “sleep stink” as you would call it, smells just like new born puppies.
We’ve been calling Rugby, Ruggie lately.
I just love nick names!
Cat, I’m glad that Grandma is doing ok. She is soooo lucky to have you.
Oh Emma lets off the heat and the sink. Wow, new born pups. That is a good smell! Emma smells more like pop corn or Doritos.
Don’t get me started on Doritos. If I was stranded on an Island and could have one food it would be Doritos. LOL!
Chaps smells like cotton. Isn’t that odd?
Love, Cat loving Doritos and Cotton!
Cindy – Tell Ruggie loveeie! hehe
I will do better than that. Ruggie will get a big smoochie! Ha! Maybe Harriet smells like doritos too but it reminds me of pups. Jethro smells like a frito. It’s weird cuz Harriet and Jethro have the hound smell. Oz and Rugs don’t. Rugby doesn’t smell like anything really. Ozzie probably has a cotton smell to him. Cotton candy!
OH! I love cotton candy! That is soooo sweet!
