Woot, Woot! I have the gas fireplace guy coming over this week!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and gas fireplace lovers! Well, Grandma and I are 2 of those!

As many of you know I own a 2 family and Grandma lives upstairs. We both have gas fireplaces but we have not used them in about 10 years.

We are so excited because I have decided to have the fireplace guy come over and put us back in business! I want to make sure everything is safe and secure. They don’t call me the safety woman for nothing. (OK, my nephew calls me that! hehehe)

Here is my fireplace pictured about 7 years ago. As you can see I was part of a Christmas card exchange on a basset hound forum.

We are keeping our paws crossed that a fire will be glowing in a few days!

Can you imagine the hounds by the fire? Can you imagine the pictures? LOL!

More loving a nice glowing fire later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Bassets and fireplaces, nothing better! (Maybe Bassets and Christmas!)

We have a gas fireplace but I don’t have any gas logs. We can also use real wood in it so I’ve been using the gas to light the wood. Unfortunately we didn’t get any wood this year so we won’t be having any fires. Of course, down here in south Texas we only get to light a fire a few times a year anyway. Maybe I’ll get some wood for next year.

So glad your being careful and having the fireplace checked out before you light it. Gas is a very scary thing.

We have a woodburning stove. Belle gets so close to the stove I can’t believe she doesn’t catch fire! I can’t put my hand on her she gets so hot.

She will lay by the stove until she starts panting. Then she slowly moves a few feet away and stands there until she cools down. Once she is done panting she settles herself back down by the stove. Silly girl!!!!

I have a fireplace that uses jelled alchol, I love to sit and read or watch a good movie by the fire.

Jelled alcohol? Never heard of it. Please explain.

I was thinking that same thing Cindy. Could it be sterno?

It comes in cans like sterno, and you can purchase it at Home Depots, fireplace stores, and many hardware stores. It costs about $55 for a dozed cans. (It’s cheaper during the summer months). There are wood logs that slide in front of the container drawer that holds the cans of jelled alchol, you can put up to 3 cans in the container and they burn for about 3 hours. You can put out the fire by just pushing the logs over the drawer, and relight them later.

We had a fireplace in my old house, and I loved to sit a read by it. When I saw this artificial fireplace at a home show, I had to have one for my old apartment. I paid about $1,200 for it.
