Do you believe in JINX?

December 15th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not loving JINX lovers?????

I have been wondering if I should do a blog about this for a long time. I was worried that I would JINX basset hound town.

So, I decided, in honor of the good vibes of basset hound town, I would talk about the following….

WHAT IS UP WITH NO HOMELESS BASSETS IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY?

I am thrilled beyond belief! I am jumping over the blue moon of Kentucky! Can you believe it?

Hey, I am not going to question it. I just wanted to see what the residents thought? I know there are many homeless bassets across the other states but not in our immediate area.

What a nice thing this holiday season. I no longer believe in JINX! I refuse!

Neither does VooDoo, our last homeless hound that is now living very large in Ohio!

I’m jealous! I think I’ll ship about 50 from South Texas!

I know Cindy, isn’t this odd? The only think I can think of is that we have a very good all breed rescue run by our Animal Control officer. I am going to interview her and see what she thinks.

She works the 3 counties that I watch for bassets.

I think it is because of your efforts and the efforts of all Basset Hound residents with help. I think the prayers, time, postings, contributions, etc. have helped so many Bassets, and I know that helping is so good for everyones heart and soul.

What I’ve been told is that down in the south we have a longer breeding period because it stays warm longer. Not sure how true that is. Things started to snowball in this area years and years ago and we are just having a hard time getting it under control. I’m sure that’s why there aren’t any rescues in your area either. They’re just not needed. We have even shipped some dogs up north cuz there aren’t as many available up that way. I think the northern part of the U.S. also started implementing spay and neuter programs much earlier than we did. Oh well. Maybe one day we’ll have it all under control. That is the goal.

Ok, so you know that if you get a basset hound soon after this posting that you need to name it “JINX”! Ha!

Interesting comments Cindy. Of course we have OHBR and GABR in IL. Those are both pretty big. I am sure hoping that we are seeing a trend here with folks leaning more towards shelter dogs and all breed rescues really ramping up. I know this is just my little neck of the woods but KY is really back woods in some sections and dogs are basically treated like dirt. Plus we have all of the Amish puppy mills up in OH. Howl ever….I remain hopeful!
