Cat’s Saturday night movie night pick ~12-11-10

December 11th, 2010 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and needing a good laugh lovers! I know you can’t watch this tonight but do yourself a favor and Netflix it or do what ever you do to rent movies! It is sooooooooo funny!

Seems like old times! With Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase – need I say more?

One look at the trailer and you will be sold. You might even buy it! Hey, it might be a good gift for someone!

I can remember watching this movie back in 1980s thinking that I would like to rescue dogs some day. Who would have ever thunk it?

I am so glad I found this movie again and could share it. I laughed so hard. Great feel good comedy for the howlowdays!

Who remembers Laura Nyro?

December 11th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Laura Nyro Lovers….

She passed away from ovarian cancer back in 1997 at the age of 49. I did not know that until I googled her last night.

I have a category called, “Music I download from ITunes”. It really has nothing to do with basset hounds, just the music I listen to with them, so I stand corrected. It has everything to do with basset hounds!

I love to make specific CDs for my transports. I find music soothes the savage beast! (me)! hehehe

So, anyway, I just downloaded this tune and wanted to put it in this category. When I heard it last night it brought back memories of the 70s. I loved the 70s.

It is a very short tune…..Enjoy!

Do you remember her? I sure do….

I am happy to report that the Mayor has reached 100% recovery…..

December 10th, 2010 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and caring for the Mayor Lovers…..

Well, last night, Chap’s Board Certified Medical Internal Medicine Doctor who specializes in Gastrointestinal disorders who also moonlights as a “vet”, LOL called last night again to check on her patient!

Well, she hit the nail on the head with her diagnosis of Chaps. She said he would improve over the next 24 hours and I sould consider him at 100% back to normal in no time.

He has been off of the medication that gave him the side effects for 48 hours.

Chaps is a very delicate soul (what Grandpa always called him) and he just does not tolerate change very well but yesterday was one of the scariest days ever. I called my vet but that was no help.

In my opinion the best doctors and veterinarians are fantastic diagnosticians. Especially in the case of vets! Their patients can’t talk for goodness sake.

Also, I have tried to become my own diagnostician as well. There is no one that is going to care as much for your hound as you do, or in my case as my family does.

Anyway, this morning Chaps was at about 74.8% of his normal self. I could tell a massive improvement over all. I barely slept all night in anticipation of getting up this morning….

That being said after I fed the kids and saw the improvement I wanted to take a nap. I also wanted Chaps to rest all day. Thank goodness I work out of my home.

Emma was all for a morning nap with Mom! YES!

IMG_0869

The true test is to see if Chaps would run towards me as he always does when I get in the living room bed. He loves when I take a nap with him.

OMD! Himz just improved to 89.2%! YES!

IMG_0872

Then another test would be if he wanted his “best buddy!”

OMD! Here he is looking for his lovey…..

IMG_0882

It is to the far left if you are looking at the picture.

IMPROVING…..IMPROVING….

IMG_0889

Nibble, nibble, nibble….What a difference a day makes. Poor thing was so confused and all he saw were 2 blurs coming at him. That must have been so scary.

Hold best buddy (it says that right on the toy) and lick paw….Now we are at 94.7%!

IMG_0901

Thank you Dr. Rudert….

IMG_0897

Here is our boy crawling into bed for his much needed nap.

IMG_0905

When he woke up he was licking his lips and wanting a treat! He even jumped up on me which he rarely does…..

100%!

I am just so happy. What a wonderful way to start the weekend! Thanks to everyone who cares about our boy. I know all of the well wishes and drool helped him as well.

It really does take a village…..

The Mayor is not feeling too well:(

December 9th, 2010 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and concerned about the Mayor Lovers. I thought I would relate what is happening and he appears to be a bit better from this morning. My sister, the doctor, most likely has diagnosed his problem but I want to tell you the story first. It might help someone.

I knew something was wrong at about 4:30am when he got out of bed and laid on the floor. He never does that.

So this morning I immediately knew something was wrong. He just stood and stared at the wall. He actually seemed scared. The good news is, is that he ate and went potty.

But then things took a slight turn and Chaps appeared to be more scared of Grandma and myself. It was heart breaking. As we came towards him he would back away.

I was thinking that he might have had a seizure or could it be sudden onset of dementia?

I am so freaked out. I don’t take these things very well. Again, he seems to be doing a bit better right now.

So, I had to go out for a few hours and Grandma sat with the kids. I called her about 5 times.

It took him about an hour to walk down the hall and get into his bed.

IMG_0863

You can see on his face that he is confused.

IMG_0864

I got home and my sister called. This is the sister in Atlanta that is a GI doctor. She is sooooo smart so we told her all about his symptoms. Of course she asked about his medications and he is on 2. Remember I took him in for conjunctivitis on Thursday? Well, after she heard what he was on she was concerned that both medications contained Gentamicin. She immediately thought that he could have mild Gentamicin toxicity. She knows howl delicate Chaps is. This is a part of what is on the wikipedia site.

Side effects

Side effects of gentamicin toxicity vary from patient to patient. Side effects may become apparent shortly after or up to months after gentamicin is administered. Symptoms of gentamicin toxicity include:

  • Balance difficulty
  • Bouncing, unsteady vision
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Difficulty multi-tasking, particularly when standing

She said, for example, if Chaps is seeing like this…

blur

He would be definitely scared and back up if you are coming towards him and he sees you and Grandma as a blur. Dr. Rudert also said that mild Gentamician toxicity can cause some mild hearing loss.

I am so hopeful that this wears off……

So is Emma!

IMG_0865

I will keep all of the residents posted. Himz seems a bit better tonight but still confused.

I am so upset that he may have this mild toxic reaction.

Are you making out your howllowday cards yet?

Howllo fellow Basset Hound and Howllowday card lovers…..

Are you sending out Howllowday cards this year? If so, can you add bassethoundtown on your list? We love cards but we love one dollar in cards even more;)

If you send me a card with one dollar in it, I will match that dollar amount up to 200 dollars and send the total to House of Puddles! Why 200 bucks? That is about the cost of my howlowday cards so I am donating that to HOP!

I sure hope I get about 2.5 million cards! Would that be totally cool? Bassethoundtown goes viral! Can you help us? hehehe

Howl much family fun!

December 8th, 2010 - 12:12 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Family Fun Lovers…..

I have been so busy the past few days getting ready for a birthday party for my sister, Caryn.

I have been so busy I have neglected my beloved blog and residents!

Anyway, I am back now! This is my favorite birthday picture of the night!

IMG_0788

See Julian’s Mom and Dad in the background?

A good time was had by all….

Then when they were leaving, look at this picture! See the Mayor in the picture? I wanted to show the residents the giant wreath!

Of course the Mayor was standing on the worry bed! hehehe!

IMG_0813

Then I got a bit closer….

IMG_0824

Look at Emma “looking” at the door, waiting form Mommy! Of course Chaps is worried!

Then Mommy comes in and Grandma took this picture for the residents!

It’s 1 degree in bassethoundtown……burrrrr

December 7th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and 1 degree lovers? Well, the Mayor is certainly not one of those! I have been so behind in my blogging due to a birthday party I was throwing for my sister. Just family, but we went all out decorating bassethoundtown. (pictures to follow in a few future blogs!)

Today I walked back to office and saw this…..

Chaps was half in half out of the dog door?

IMG_0779

He stood there for a few seconds. Was he trying to figure out howl to stay warm and do his duty? I was pretty sure I was going to make sure he got the rear end half out of the dog door.

IMG_0783

Himz is so smart!

IMG_0775

Get this, after his 1 degree sprinkle, he backed up through the dog door. I totally did not expect that so I was not at the ready with the camera even though it was in my hand. I was kind of like, “What?” I have never seen himz do that before!

The wonder of a cold Mayor!

More capturing the moment better later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Chaps supervises the hanging of the wreath!

December 5th, 2010 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Chaps being a supervisor lovers…

A few days ago Wade, the person who does all of my yard work and landscaping, came over to help, aka do everything, with the out door decorations.

IMG_0754

See the Mayor in the window? He never took his eyes off of Wade. Emma was laying right next to the Mayor. Unfortunately, that night the wreath did not come on with the other lights which are on the timing system that could run Rockefeller Center. I was so upset. Anyway, last night I was looking at the pretty lights covered in snow and thinking howl Grandpa would have known howl to turn on the wreath.

IMG_0763

Can you believe howl pretty they look?

IMG_0770

Then as I was gazing outside an intense thought popped into my head. The strong thought was, “flip the switch”. Flip the switch? What switch? So, kind of freaked out I went down to the electrical grid (I should take a picture of this thing) and there, right next to one of the many panels was a light switch….turned off. None of the other timers are on a switch. I flipped the switch. I was thinking the entire way back upstairs, this can’t be the problem, none of the other lights need a switch???

Low and behold the wreath was shining like a beacon in the night…

Who knew that “Flip the switch” would be the best Christmas gift I have ever gotten?

(((((((Grandpa)))))))))

More loving life’s little miracles later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. I will take a picture of the wreath tonight! Maybe I can get the Mayor and Shimmers in the window! hehehehe
