A question from your Mayor….

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and a question from your Mayor Lovers…….

Interestingly, this all took place yesterday, Valentines day. I was cleaning the kitchen and kind of looking at the Mayor. I was wondering why he kept cropping up his ears as he looked out the worry bed window. Normally when he sees something he barks his head off!

So, I came over and looked out the window with him. I could not figure it out?!?

Then I saw him look down and then I looked down…

Momma love dove parked her baby love doves in front of Chaps window for himz to baby sit. I just know in my heart that she did that because of a morbidly obese fat cat that roams our neighborhood. She knows that the Mayor HATES that cat and barks like a mad man when it comes into our yard or anywhere close.

The Mayor was on the job most of day.

I saw the fat cat up the street. The fat cat saw me. I gave it the stink eye.

So, this is the question….Do you think folks that let their cats roam should put a bell on them? I do. My city actually does not allow cats at large but many ignore that ordinance.

What do you think?

More pondering later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

So cute – he make a great sitter. I did not know that cats were not allowed to roam in our fine town. My neighbor that used to live next door had 3 cats that traumatized Bumper and Abby all day and they were outside free to roam all day and night too. I hope the doves stay safe from the cat – I am sure Chaps will see to that.

Judy, I think that cats are not allowed to roam at large in Ft. Thomas, KY. I will call Terry tomorrow and ask her. I am pretty sure about that.

Chaps is the best babysitter ever. I swear, he laid there for about 4 hours. He had me obsessed with his mission!

Cats, like dogs, should not be roaming the streets. I would be worried sick of our LuLu was not safe and sound here at home.

I know where all our beasties are. Sophie the Basset is using Nell the Sussex as a pillow (which explains why Nell is snoring). LuLu the cat is being a lump under a blanket at the foot of the bed (she knows how to be warm).

Thanks the Mayor for us for being on the job today.

I totally agree OM. I cannot imagine opening the door and letting Chaps and Emma out to roam, hoping they come home. I never understood the cat person mentality that let cat roam. Do they just hope they come home? I hope some cat folks pipe in and let me know.

my one cat always ventured out..but he never bothered birds..he was to busy sitting on the roof chasing away dogs that passed by (seriously)..& then dropping down to greet people…i always had a bell on him so that the birds would hear him coming. he would also appear at the doors & windows of any new people who moved in here & make himself look skinny so they would feed him…

pepe the wonder cat NEVER would venture outside unless i make her & then she would just go running in at warp speed…she wasn’t very brave or very smart)

i don’t have a problem with bells on cats..i do have a problem with them wiping out the native bird population. like i said with boo i never worried..he was more like a dog than a cat…

I just went to the Ft. Thomas Ordinances page. Cat ARE NOT ALLOWED to roam at large!

§ 91.23 DUTY TO KEEP ANIMAL UNDER RESTRAINT.

    (A) It shall be the duty of every owner of any animal, or anyone having any animal in his/her possession or custody, to insure that the animal is kept under restraint and that reasonable care and precautions are taken to prevent the animal from leaving, while unattended, the real property limits of its owner, possessor or custodian, and that it is securely and humanely enclosed within a house, building, fence, pen or other enclosure out of which it cannot climb, dig, jump or otherwise escape on its own volition. Such enclosure must be securely locked at any time the animal is left unattended, or it must be securely and humanely restrained by chain, cable and trolley, or other tether of sufficient strength to prevent escape, or it must be on a leash under the control of a competent person.

    (B) It shall be the duty of the owner of any animal or anyone having an animal in his/her possession to keep the animal under restraint and in control at all times while the animal is off the real property limits of the owner, possessor or custodian. For purposes of this section, the animal is deemed under control when it is securely confined within a vehicle parked or in motion, or it is properly confined within a secure enclosure with the permission of the owner of the property where the enclosure is located, or it is securely restrained by a leash or other device held by a competent person.

    (Ord. 0-18-88, passed 8-15-88; Am. Ord. 0-24-89, passed 10-2-89; Am. Ord. O-5-92, passed 2-3-92) Penalty, see § 91.99

Buttttttttt……….It’s like most ordinances, no one pays attention to them. If that cat hurts my doves I would like to …………

But I can’t because there is an ordinance against it.

Chaps is a great protector. You could also see his gentle concern. I agree that animals both cats and dogs should not be allowed to roam. This is how accidents happen, and you have to respect the fact that some people aren’t comfortable around animals no matter how gentle they are. I am not a cat person at all (servere allergies), but I do feel the every cat should be belled because of their predatory nature.

Chaps is soooooo cute baby sitting the doves. AND YES I think owners of Cats should keep them on THEIR PROPERTY and not let them roam and especially NOT LET THEM POOP IN MY YARD AND NOT THEIR OWN!!!! Is this so I can pick it up and not them……and worse yet have my dogs eat it!!!! Oh, don’t get me started — please cat owners….pick up after your own cat, just like we do our dogs!!!!

I just think it is so gross that cats are out there killing and eating diseased mice and the like and then they come home and want to snuggle up. That would totally creep me out. I am not a cat lover at all but I do cotton up to ones that family and friends have. I could never let a cat roam at large. It would feel horrible if a baby bird was attacked as its mother watched in horror.

I agree that cats should NOT run loose. Up here in N.H. we have coyote, fox, fisher cats etc. that think cats are a very tasty meal!!! If an owner loves their cat….KEEP IT IN !!!
But what I really would like, is to see a picture of that “stink eye” you gave that fat cat!!! ha, ha, ha!!!

The ordinance is news to me. I see so many cats loose that I guess most cat owners don’t know about this or just do not care. I hope the doves stay safe from the fat cat. Thanks for looking this up!
