Plan G…….

April 27th, 2011 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Thunderstorm plan lovers….

Well, here in bassethoundtown we are at plan G.

Plan A – Weather the storm – did not work
Plan B – Rescue Relief – did not work
Plan C – Benadryl – did not work
Plan D – Xanax – kinda worked
Plan E – Thundershirt – kinda worked
Plan F – Thundershirt and Xanax – kinda worked
Plan G – Thundershirt, Xanax, and the Mayor’s old kennel – hope it works

Well, after talking to my BFF who had a thunder phobic dog we are going to try the kennel route.

Last night was horrific! After talking to Janie (BFF) and hearing howl she had such luck with the kennel for her ATB dog Bo, Grandma and I are going for it.

As a side note, Janie rescued Bo as a pup on her honeymoon. It was right after Hurricane Hugo. Janie and her new husband were heading to the airport home from South Carolina when Janie spotted a drenched pup on the highway after Hugo. She directed the cab driver to pull over and “Bo” was in her lap within seconds. Bo was named Bo because the name of the road they were on was Bohickin, or something like that. Bo took the flight with her and her new husband home that day. Janie is convienced that Bo was storm phobic after living through Hurricane Hugo. I totally agree with her.

So, Grandma and I went down to the basement and retrieved Chaps old kennel.

Look at the Mayor! He is all…”What are you doing Grandma?”

IMG_2813

Grandma explains to him that this is his “special storm place that has lots and lots of french fries in it!”

My BFF dropped off french fries for the Mayor and the easing in process…..

Here he goes into his old kennel to retrieve the treat. I have the kennel set up right across from the living room bed that we all sleep on.

The Mayor backs out with mild trepidation.

Then, we put his second favorite toy in the kennel and I laid the Thundershirt by the the door.

He is curious.

Just a few seconds ago a Tornado Watch was issued until 1:00am. Severe Thunderstorms loom large.

I have to do this for him, Emma and myself. Chaps has become a danger to himself by trying to climb. He has become a danger to Emma by climbing on her back. He has become a danger to me as well. He tries to climb over my head. If I am sitting on a couch, he wants to be on the back of the couch. Oh, it is a hot mess.

I don’t know what plan H would be……Drool for us please!

More loving, the not yet tested plan G later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Plan G would only be in the middle of the night. Xanax and walking thunder miles seem to do the trick in the waking hours.

    Also with his Thundershirt on

  3. April 27th, 2011 | 8:25 pm

Sending a mixture of basset and sussex drool for the mayor! Hoping the storms fizzle out before getting anywhere near bht.

We love you guys. The crate’s a good idea for the safety of Chaps and all of you.

    Thank you OneMom…

We love you guys too! We will keep all of the residents posted!

The Mayor is laying next to me as it beats down raining!

I’m tracking forecasts and radars … I’m hanging on to clear skies for BHT.

BHT needs a break! Geez. I’ve been watching all that on the news. Then, on the flip side, we’re dry and burning up in TX! A new fire was reported this morning around 11:30 north of Huntsville. It’s burned around 100 acres but they may be able to get it under control soon. That’s about 2 hours from me. I tell ya, this weather is crazy. No wonder the Mayor is upset. I sure hope the crate helps. That was a good idea but it may not work the first time. He’ll need to get used to it being around again. So don’t put it up and give up soon. Great idea BFF!

I know they haven’t canceled your tornado watch yet, but the track of the storms seems to be staying south and east of you.

Sophie and Nell are continuing to send drool your way.

Good night from here. I hope you have a quiet, uneventful night.

Just watched the weather this morning…..I’m worried about you all — are you ok? Gosh, it just won’t end for you guys, can you believe it’s been over 4 months since we have had rain. We are in such a drought. Spring just passed us by with no flowers and everything is having a hard time greening out. Keeping you close in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everyone for checking on us. We made it through the night without too much incident. It was sideways raining with trees bending almost to the ground. All of the garbage cans went flying. Talk about a mess. We did not need the cage or the thunder pill. It was a wild ride.

Chaps reaction to the wind and rain storm was throwing up. He was puking all morning. He is fine now and ate his breakfast, pottied, and I got a pepto in him. He is now having his morning nap.

On a curious note…..Verna has not been back to her nest????

I am so sorry to hear about the Mayor’s storm phobia and his reactions to thunderstorms. I know Slinky whines, cries and barks when the thunder and lighting are loud, but all I have to do is take her to bed and have a good snuggle and all is well.

I’m glad you are all ok…..hate that you had to endure that though. Poor Chaps! Also, sad about Verna…hope she is ok? Colby Chaps is enjoying his spring. The other night he had 2 cups of Science Diet, A few dental Bite treats to clean his teeth, 1 milkbone dog biscuit, a slice of pizza and 3 baby rabbits!!!! We may not be getting rain, but the bunnies are still nesting in our yard….oh, how I wish they wouldn’t!

With his wish to climb, Chaps is probably trying to get to high ground which canines might do in the wild. Crating is a good idea so no one gets hurt. Hope the storms are over for you all soon.

It sure has been a wild ride in bassethoundtowntown this week. I hope it is over for all of us. I can relate to Chaps as I was scared watching the weather and seeing the massive amounts of rain and howling winds. Today is sunny – something we have not seen in awhile!

  16. April 30th, 2011 | 6:09 pm

Audra – I can’t believe that Colby Chaps can eat bunnies without getting sick. His Dad is so delicate. Today, (Saturday) he has been throwing up all day. I have no idea why. I think we will take a trip to the vet this upcoming week. Hope you guys are doing OK in TX!
