Cindy, bassethoundtown resident rescues a needy basset!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and loving to rescue basset lovers! I love stories like this. Thursday I got an e-mail from one of our residents, Cindy, of Jethro, Rugs, Ozzie and Harriet! She said…..
“The local shelter called me about a pretty girl they had. Big girl. So I called Basset Buddies Rescue of TX and they had room for her in a kennel. We’re trying to get her a foster home though. I am picking her up Friday and taking her to Houston for vetting. From there a volunteer will transport her to her temporary destination while she looks for a home.”
FRIDAY WAS HOLLY’S BIG DAY!
Cindy checks in to bassethoundtown with updates!
“1:54 – We just got loaded up and drank some fresh water. Now she’s laying in the back on comfy blankets eating a treat.
1:55 – Holly didn’t stay in the back very long. She quickly took the front passenger seat and asked me where were we going. I explained that we were going to search for a furever home and told her she would be fine.
1:56 – We dropped by Jack in the Box and shared a breakfast sandwich and some hash browns. Holly enjoyed it as she patiently waited for her bite. It was lip smacking good!
1:57 & 1:59 – Laying down to take a nap.
1:60 – Holly and me at West Alabama Animal Clinic.
She is a very sweet dog and doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. She seems to be good with all dogs and even cats. I think she would be fine for children.
So, we wish our Holly Dolly good luck! We have all paws crossed that she’ll find a GREAT furever home.
Cindy.”
Good job Cindy! Thank Dog you were Holly’s angel! Keep us posted when you have a link to her page on Basset Buddies Rescue of TX!
More loving Holly and Cindy later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma
Holly is an adorable dog. I hope she gets a forever home soon. It seems that she has a good disposition and will be adopted soon. Bumper and Abby have their paws crossed for her.
Cindy – I love that picture of Holly looking at you in the front seat. What a sweet face … she looks so gentle. Thanks for helping her.
Did the shelter tell you she was a “big girl”? She doesn’t look that big to me.
When I first went to see her she looked big and long to me. Then the next day when I actually picked her up and took her to the vet, she wasn’t that big. I think she looked big because she was in a kennel with 2 other dogs that were much smaller than her. She is very long though. And she was soooo very cute. I hope she gets a home soon. She’s going to make someone a very good dog. From what I understand her owner was going out of state to live with his Dad and his Dad wouldn’t let him bring the dog. So, the lady at the shelter knew this guy and she told him about BBRTX and that she’d try to get her in with us. Thank goodness it all worked out. It would have been a shame to put this sweet girl to sleep.
If anyone is interested in adopting her or any basset in the Houston area go to BBRTX.ORG and take a look at all the sweet dogs looking for homes.
Thanks Cat for blogging about this sweet girl! You may have helped us find her a home.
She reminds me so much of my first basset Ellie May. Thank you for helping her to find a home, good luck sweet girl!
Hey Cindy – can you keep us posted on her? It would be fun to hear more about her journey!
Holly has a page now!

Looks like she didn’t find a foster home so she’ll be kenneled. Today she’s getting spayed and we’ll find out if she has heartworms. I’ll try to keep everyone up to date with her if I can find out what’s going on.
Cat, why are you up at 3:45AM? Storms? Poor Chaps! Send those storms down here to put out some of our wild fires!
She’s heartworm negative! A rare thing down here. And it looks like she’s got a scare from spaying so they’re not going to spay her. Only bad thing is she’s got blood in her pee so they’re doing some tests and giving her antibiotics. Hopefully it’s not a kidney stone.
And, we may have a foster home for her. I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you soooooooo much Cindy for this wonderful update. I bet the blood in the pee will be minimal. I sure hope so. HW negative is HUGE! Good Girl Holly!
UPDATE…UPDATE…
This just in from Holly’s “foster home” Sounds to me like this may be her forever home.
Start of e-mail…
“So glad we were able to meet up this morning & pick up Holly. We stopped off at Pet Smart and got her a nice new Pink Harness & Leash. She was so happy & enjoyed the car ride home to Kingwood. She was very well behaved in the car; just curled up & slept the whole ride.
Since getting her home, she’s been getting aquanted with Sammy. He’s keeping a close eye on her & has made himself clear to her that he is “boss”, but she seems cool with that & always takes a step back when needed. She for sure came from a home : she begs for table food…lol she loves the couch… and is very playful with our son Vincent. He is just loving on her! Our other son will get to meet her after school later this afternoon.
She did great on a very long walk around our neighborhood. Her nose sure leads the way!
I think my husband is falling for her too, despite his “wish” for males… she is a sweetheart and loves her belly rubbed.
We are very happy to have welcomed her into our home. I will keep you posted on how she’s doing.”
End of E-mail.
This brought a tear to my eye! A happy one. This girl is going to be just fine. A new pink harnass and leash! Life is good.
Cindy what a wonderful pupdate! Don’t cha wish they were all this way? Just so heart warming. It sounds like the foster family might just fail. Keep those updates a comin’!
This RARELY happens. Oh how I wish they were all this way. Hopefully this fairy tale will have a happy ending.
