Art imitating life or was it just the heat?

July 31st, 2011 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Dottie Mae Lovers (I will get to her later)

Last night I was sniffing around facebook while sandwiched between 2 hot hounds.

I was also watching the oddest movie staring Kiefer Sutherland as the artist, Paul Gauguin.    As I was watching and surfing something very magical and odd happened. The movie was focusing on this painting.

Still Life with Three Puppies
Paul Gauguin (French, 1848-1903)

When Gauguin painted Still Life with Three Puppies he was living in Brittany among a group of experimental painters. He abandoned naturalistic depictions and colors, declaring that “art is an abstraction” to be derived “from nature while dreaming before it.” The puppies’ bodies, for example, are outlined in bold blue, and the patterning of their coats mirrors the botanical print of the tablecloth. It is thought that Gauguin drew stylistic inspiration for this painting from children’s-book illustrations and from Japanese prints, which were introduced to him by his friend and fellow artist Vincent van Gogh that year.

And I was focusing on this puppy on facebook!

Dottie Mae2

It was on Bob the Dog’s face book page and of course the “wiener/basset mix” is ADORABLE but Dottie Mae is in a foster home in Cincinnati!  I live 5 minutes from Cincinnati.

Back to the movie……Gauguin’s daughter, at this point in the movie is BEGGING for a puppy.  Jumping up and down, pleading with her parents.  (She gets the puppy)

Back to Bob the Dog’s facebook page.  Everyone and their brother begins commenting on this darling pup.

Dottie Mae

So, here goes……..GRANDMA CAN I HAVE A PUPPY?  PLEASE GRANDMA, PLEASE GRANDMA…..PLEASE LET ME HAVE A PUPPY!

OK, I am just kinda kidding here but I would sure love to have this pup.  I know I can’t.  Chaps would not care for it in the least.  I guess it was just the heat…..

Fawn Rescue – Gotta love Moms – and men with the jaws of life!

July 30th, 2011 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and rescue lovers……This morning I found this e-mail waiting for me from Charlene in TX.  Charlene recently lost her beloved Bailey as you will recall.  Charlene, hope you are doing well.  Your e-mail really made my weekend and now I hope to do the same for the residents of Bassethoundtown……

Start of e-mail……

On the Morning of May 18th 2011 someone noticed a deer in a yard that appeared to be franticly looking for something in the rocks that form a wall on property line in Brush Prairie, WA. The deer wouldn’t leave the yard. In the area the deer was concentrating on you could hear a baby fawn crying in the rocks.
Some of the rocks and smaller boulders were moved and you could see a baby fawn’s face in the rocks. He had apparently fallen in or crawled in through one of the gaps and was now trapped. The larger boulders were too heavy to move and the rocks could cave in on the baby deer if moved.
Finally the Clark County Fire District 3 was called. The B Shift came out and were able to move the larger rocks out of the way with the Jaws of Life enough to be able to reach in a pull the baby fawn out and reunited it with its momma. The fawn was probably stuck in their most of the night quickly went on to nurse. One of the neighbours took some video clips of the fire department’s rescue. The clips have been edited. Enjoy.

Ahhhhhhhhhh……….

July 29th, 2011 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and picture lovers.  I picked up a nice thank you card from my Post Office Box last week from Monnie and her basset Lily.  They live in KY.  Monnie bought one the cute little basset  hound purses I had in my boutique for her Granddaughter awhile back.  What a nice little note.  It was fun to receive a hand written note!  You are so welcome Monnie and I hope your sweet granddaughter loves her new purse.

Monnie told me that her Lily loves the hydrangeas in her yard!

Look howl pretty!

Lily is as pretty as a summer flower….

House of Puddles has 2 new HoPpers!

July 23rd, 2011 - 11:11 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and House of Puddles Lovers!  May I please introduce to you the new HoPpers?

This is Sophie…..

Sophie-HOP-003

Herz is 11 years old and was a victim of a family breakup.  Jan, Joyce and Carol of Guardian Angel Basset Rescue worked hard on her behalf.  When Marilyn found out about her situation she agreed to make her a HopPer!  Jan fostered our Sophie until a transport was arranged and reports are she rules the roost from her beloved dog bed. Look howl pretty she is!

Sophie-HOP-008

Well, that transport took place today for her and her traveling companion, Caterpillar!

Today is the first time they met!

Here is darling Caterpillar and Lisa with his story!

CaterpillarMe

Well, I was calling himz Catmandoo!  He is so handsome.  This is himz with his foster Mommy Lisa.  She fell in love with this old guy.  I am not sure of his full story but I think he was pulled from an area pound and through networking found his way to Marilyn and House of Puddles.  Oh, he is really cute and loves attention.

Cat072211a

Turns out they were both coming from the same direction and the bassetabulous Jess’e Potts of Hound Haven Basset Rescue whipped up the transportation run sheet and I think it was filled in a few days.  Jess’e runs a tight ship and it was a well oiled machine today!

As soon as Marilyn sent me the run sheet I changed my plans and jumped on board.  Today was the big day and it was touch and go as to whether Grandma could come with me or not.  Thunderstorms started rolling thought bassethoundtown around 11:30 am and lasted until about 1:30pm.  Our leg of the transport was to leave at 3:55 pm.  It all worked out and we picked up our charges on time.

Isn’t this funny?  My camera was in my BHV, which was in the cool garage.  When I stepped outside to take this picture it was 109 heat index degrees.  The air was dripping wet!

IMG_3861

We wasted no time loading the kids after meeting Donna.  It was too hot to chit chat!

Here is a tiny section of Donna!  hehehe

IMG_3862

Off we go then!

Grandma and I made our 2 hour journey up to Columbus, OH right on schedule!

We met Susan and her pawsome neighbor!

Pawsome neighbor with Caterpillar….

IMG_3866

Susan loads Sophie in the front seat…

IMG_3871

And the new HoPpers are off to spend the night in Columbus. We were in the parking lot for less than 6 minutes.  Folks, when I say “well oiled machine”,  I mean well oiled machine.

They will start their final journey to House of Puddles tomorrow morning.

Grandma and I traveled back home feeling great about helping 2 new HoPpers find a soft place to land.

The dog days of summer….

July 22nd, 2011 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Dog Days of Summer not lovers… It is just to dang hot.  This weather makes everyone cranky.  The hum of the ACs running in the neighborhood is deafening.

Anyway, my Mom and I were talking about the dog days of summer and where that statement came from.  I recalled doing a blog on it way back when.  Actually it was on July 30, 2007!  Wow……

The Mayor officially announces the DOG DAYS OF SUMMER…..

The Mayor

When you click on the link, also click on the tiny pictures to read and see more.  Back in 2007 I was using my gallery much more.  I really don’t know why I got away from that. It was a bit more work.

More blasts from the past later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma not loving the Dog Days of Summer……

Cute and somewhat odd YouTube about a basset hound at a PR company in the UK…

July 22nd, 2011 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and YouTube lovers.  It’s Friday, kick back and watch some Tube.  I was sniffing around over at the Tube and found this one.  It is about Hugo, a basset hound that goes to work everyday with a PR company.  It’s cute, but a bit odd in some parts.

More sniffing around the Tube later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

Waiting for Grandma and Stufffed Green Peppers;)

July 19th, 2011 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Green Pepper Lovers!  This past weekend we did a photo shoot of the new Mayor Chaps Blankets we ordered from Earstoyou.net.

We are getting ready to put in the boutique.  Look at this stack!

IMG_3827

We really had our work cut out for us and we only had one super model.  Chaps Rudert.  Emma wanted no part of the heat wave.  She prefers her blankee next to the AC vent!

Emma, however, will wait until the cows come home for her Grandma to come downstairs.

IMG_3836

She knows that Grandma is good for a few treats and perhaps a patty rub!

IMG_3837

Chaps gets in on the action.  He is just coming out of hair and makeup.

IMG_3838

Well, she went to the basement first so I had to pop our dinner in the oven.  Can you believe how pretty this is?

Stuffed Super Green Peppers and Sweet, Sweet, Summer Corn on the Cob.

IMG_3835

I make Grandma work for her supper!  hehehehe

We moved the Male Super Model outside for the shoot.

IMG_3663

I was going to call this blanket Summer Soft Moss but now I am leaning towards Stuffed Super Green Pepper.

Then we have this beauty.  Grandma came up with the name Buttercup, which I love, but now I am thinking Sweet Summer Corn on the Cob.  It kind of goes with the theme of dinner.

IMG_3779

The Mayor worked hard on this shoot.  I took about 165 pictures all in all.

IMG_3695

This is not the kind of weather for blankets (105 heat index in the shade) but before we know it fall will be upon us like an old dear friend. Then you will want to cuddle up in your very own Mayor Chaps Blanket!

More pictures from the photo shoot later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Who wants a Lady update? Me, mememememe!

July 17th, 2011 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Lady update lovers!  I just love this girl.  She is pretty. Cindy, went to visit Lady at the vet yesterday and provided us with all of these pictures and updated information about Lady!

Well, Lady now has a foster Mom.  Her foster Mom will pick her up on Monday.  She did not want to leave Lady over the weekend but she had plans to go out of town.  It really was very fortunate for Lady.  The first week after the surgery is very hard on both human and hound.  You have to try and keep them quite and make sure they don’t rub the surgery site.  Anyway, look at our girl.  Herz swelling is down!

Is that a smile I see?

16-1

The technician, pictured with Lady, gave Cindy some of her favorite treats and boy did she ever go for them!

Just look at that sniffer going! Again, this looks so much like Emma.  Grandma always says, “Show me your teeth, show me your baby teeth”!  Too cute…..

16-2

Cindy really enjoyed her visit with our darling Lady.  Hey, Cindy – if you want to give us some more details that would be great!  I am sure I am leaving out plenty!

Yummy!  Those treats are really good!

16-3

Well, tomorrow is a big day for Lady.  Her new foster Mom comes to get her.  I sure hope the foster Mom keeps up with us and provides updates on Lady.

More Lovely Lady news later……Cat, Chaps and Emma
