Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and TX Lady Lovers…..

EMMA’S GULLY BLANKET SOLD – SOLD – SOLD – TO SANDY GASTON OF CAMP TOAST FOR 70.00!

SANDY IS GOING TO RE-DONATE THE EMMA GULLY TO BASSET RESCUE OF PUDGET SOUND!

THANK YOU SANDY, LADY IS LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH GIVING FRIENDS IN HER LIFE!

Lady is a new resident of Bassethoundtown thanks to Cindy, Rugs, Jethro, Ozzie and Harriet Doyle.

Cindy volunteers for Basset Buddies Rescue of TX and helps with their ongoing efforts to aid the homeless hounds of TX.

Even though BBRTX was full they agreed to help Lady with her urgent medical needs.  Poor Lady was raging with glaucoma and was basically in an emergency situation. She needed her eyes removed pronto!

LadyTXDoyle

Cindy gives us some background….

“Lady was found on the internet by a young lady who took her and was going to care for her.  After a few days she realized that she had too many health issues and she would not be able to afford to do the vetting.  So, she called Galveston County Animal Shelter who called Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas to see if we would take her.  BBRTX didn’t have a foster home for this sweet girl but agreed to get her to the vet and start her journey to getting well while they searched for a foster home.  Lady had glaucoma, light heart worms, intestinal worms and needed spaying.  She is very thin and her nails were long and chipping.  She has started her journey to getting well by having her eyes removed, relieving her of much pressure and pain.  Her heartworms can be treated with heartguard and she was spayed while she was under having her eyes removed.  She was wormed for intestinal worms and her nails have been trimmed.  She already looks and feel much better.  She’s slowly gaining weight and has a big jump on her road to recovery.  She’s young and strong and it won’t be long before she’ll be enjoying her new life ahead.”

Well, as Cindy told us, Lady had her eyes removed a few days ago.

LadyTXDoyleER

She is doing remarkable and is probably experiencing massive relief from the intense pain of glaucoma.  Now she needs a home and some money to pay her tab at the vet.  Cindy thinks that the bill will be about 1000.00 with everything she has had done.  Lady is also boarding at the vet as well.  So far someone has donated 300.00 towards her vet bill.  I think it is someone that is on BBRTX facebook page.

Chaps and Grandma donated 50.00.

Cindy is doing a fundraiser at work.

Now, Emma wants to do her part.  Emma wants to donate a brand new fresh gully blanket!

I pray for the best family for Lady! I looked at the before and after shots of this brave girl and you can see the pain and the after shots well she looks filled with peace. Lady knows she is loved by all who touch her. Great work Cindy, your love and devotion show all over Lady’s sweet face…

I thought the same thing Sandy. I bet she was in so much pain from those dang diseased eyes.

It was horrifying. I’ve never seen glaucoma like that before. I cannot imagine the pain she went through. One eye was a lot bigger than the other so she went through pain in the one eye and lost vision. Then it must have moved to the other. I cannot imagine.

On the good side, I e-mailed Jeff (BBR volunteer and board member) this morning and he said that she goes to her foster family on Monday. I’m so glad they have a foster family for her. I know that a few families adopted out their fosters last week so we did free up some homes. So, she’ll be staying at the clinic until the foster family can get her. BBRTX will not put a special needs dog in a kennel. I’m actually kind of glad that she’s staying at the clinic for this week and a 1/2 because she’s getting medical attention that much longer. She may not really need it but she’s there if she does. Everyone at the clinic just adores her. Everyone that passed her by, while I was visiting, bent down to give her a kiss and hug. It was so good to see.

Also, Jeff promised to give me some figures on what we have collected for Lady so far but he wants to check the P.O. box first. I think he’s going to do that this weekend.

Thank you guys for helping our Lady!

There are no folks better than Basset Hound Town residents!

That is wonderful news Cindy. A real foster home all of her own? That is so special. I cannot wait to hear more about it. I agree with you. She is very lucky to be at the vet for a week longer!

BJ – thank you so much. If you are reading this, can you update us on howl you feel?

We just made a donation through paypal at the BBRT website. She does look a lot more peaceful after her surgery. Poor sweetie.

Cindy thanks for getting her on her way to a life of love.

She goes to her foster home on Monday. I’ll e-mail Jeff and see if someone is going to visit her this weekend. If not, maybe I can make another run up there on Saturday morning. It’s about a 45 minute ride up there, one way, but since it’s right in the middle of Houston there’s a lot of traffic. A Saturday may be less traffic unless I catch it coming home with everyone coming to the beach for the weekend. I’m probably doomed either way!

Thanks for all the help everyone!

  23. July 14th, 2011 | 1:08 pm

I would be surprised if the foster family did not work with you to get pictures. Plus there is a wealth of information on this website and from the residents as well.

    Thanks Cindy

With past experience of being a foster coordinator, some families just aren’t as active in trying to promote their foster as others. I know, it’s weird. But, this foster is on the facebook page so if anything, we can ask her on facebook to send you pictures. She’s not getting her until Monday so I’m thinking she had plans for the weekend or is out of town and that’s why she can’t take her yet. But, like I said before, I’m glad she’s hanging at the vet for these few extra days.

Another thing I’ve experienced is that the foster family will start falling in love with the hound and want to keep it. So, they stop trying to adopt them out but won’t admit that they want to adopt until they are pressured. Foster failing isn’t a bad thing. We sometimes lose foster families over it because they have a house full but at least that’s one more dog that has a home.
